Thank you for these videos. Your mod is great and does a good job of wrangling the WH lore into Dominions 5.

A very fun nation to play in SP, especially on huge maps with many nations (as you'll end up with many capitals and end up getting to use all the sites). I've generally played with Von Carstein as the first capital and a large bless helping mounted and undead troops given what there is in the troop lineup.

Also, there are comments in Lucid's discord about if upkeep is really based on discounts or not. I think upkeep is based on the raw count (at least for things that have upkeep). So I think if you want to mildly debuff some of the vampire things (which I don't necessarily think you need to/should) a reasonable small debuff would be to increase the cost and the death discount at the same time so the cost stays the same in death 3. This is a nerf both because you don't always have death 3 (someone might not take it on the nation, and even if they take it, the scales might not have spread and/or a growth throne might have hit), and even if you took it, scales spread, and you have death 3, it still impacts upkeep (for the units with upkeep). Therefore that might be the best way to do slight nerfs that if anything make the theme death discounts even more impactful.

Your work is amazing as always. I don't have much input to give on balancing, but I did play them in an (atypical) multiplayer game some time ago; 3 players, the others were Bretonnia and Itza, and we used Fast Research rules. I focused on the Strigoi for their consistency and flexibility in commanders (and I'm just a sucker for a big meaty dude). - The regular Strigoi are very solid light-to-medium thugs; I can't remember if the game was before or after they lost their slots, but I know I didn't gear them heavily because between those paths they just work very well right off the bat (pun intended). 245 gold for someone who can raid PD at Alt3 and destroy small armies at Alt6 with minimal to no gear and only 2 commander points is just very solid. They don't have the power roof of a Sidhe or a Pan, but the floor is much, much higher. - The True Strigoi though are *really* the centerpiece; they're both excellent battlemages and full-on SC's, capable of dropping basically every SC spell in the game except Phoenix Pyre. I do think they could do with a slight price hike; I know the general power level is higher in the Warhammer mods, but to me the True Strigoi is easily on the level of a Basalt King or Dai Oni (or an Onaqui, but not freespawning sacreds) for SC'ing. - The Crypt Horrors are solid if you can buff them, but Vampiria isn't a great nation for buffing. I lucked out on Lizard Shamen, but I could also see using a few Strigany Mystics for the job. But with Body Ethereal and Protection they performed very well, and the corpse eating is more relevant than one might think because after just a few turns it'll bump up their regen. EDIT: I don't think the Grave Guard are too cheap though; it's an excellent troop, but for that kind of grindy troop the fact that they don't heal is a strong drawback, much more than for the cav variant (which ideally makes combats short).

All of the martial vampire commanders probably need to be reworked somehow. Right now you can just send them out to solo expand at a staggering rate. 55 provinces at turn 12 is a perfectly reasonable pace for a Blood Dragon expansion test (without other players) and that is probably not the intended power level, though I'm not very familiar with the mod pack. If the vampire lords have to be this powerful out of the box, they probably need to have their costs doubled. Perhaps it could then be brought back down by a ritual spell cast in the province where you recruit them, because later on they are probably not quite as overwhelming. The Blood Drakes would still remain a probelm, as 2 CP and less than 300 gold for a solo expander is absurd.

I can see balancing the costs being pretty hard on account of being defaulted to Death 3 scales as even with halved effect that will inevitably start eating into the economy needed to recruit a lot of the premium units. Similar issue to Therodos actually, where you have really nice stuff until the death scales eventually make them a non-option.
@Mewobiba2 жыл бұрын
Therodos is popkill though, which is much much worse than scales, esp scales at half effect. A 3 candle+3D Thero province will halve its pop in 19 months. A D3 Vampiria province loses only 6% pop in that time.

I have had great success using Winged Strigoi as SCs, send in like 5 of them and let them use that corpse eater to boost their health so they're all buffed up and watch them drop on your enemies commanders and rip them to shreads.
@Theeater1262 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's possible; but, it would be really cool to have a unique ring that grants Immortality 3, especially if you could make it only wearable by Vlad and Isabella.

I think it’s possible, through some modding trickery. I could also make them immortal as long as they’re together, potentially

I've enjoyed starting with 4 of the 5 bloodlines. Strigoi is not my favorite. That insanity is just too frustrating for me. I think the assassins should be 2 RP, as should all assassins. It's hard to balance these commanders because so often they are ultra elite, or just chaff to hold the line. I love the ultra eliteness of them, it helps them stand against the lizards. I'd like to see the other bloodlines get a second form on the living troops. For example, the Nechrarchs turning theirs into ghouls with magic, the Strigoi turning theirs into some feral undead creature, etc. Even to the point of not having undead hireables at all. I'd also like to see the vargulf added, they would make a nice counter to the harvester/corpse giant combo. I quite like this nation, it is a different nation every game for me.
@Leiska862 жыл бұрын
The true strigoi don't get insanity, right? I can see them being a fine cap bloodline, but the lesser strigoi do not seem useful. They can't thug without slots and their casting is nowhere near good enough to merit the cost, and they go insane.
