Due to many events in imperial history the imperium is structured in a way that there are many factions within the imperium that are both at odds yet need each other, this is to ensure that no one group becomes too powerful. So getting anything organised or done takes a lot of work and politicking. For example with the titan legions they are each an independent force under no one's command but they need the other mechanicum to maintain there machines, the navy to transport them the space marines and guard to support them in battle etc. So everyone has to kind of play nice.

That makes sense and while it might lead to some tension you're right that it probably helps keep all of the factions in place

If you guys are asking, the titan is a emperor class titan, the biggest, largest and heavily armoured titan. And the name of the titan is storm herald and invigilata is the house storm herald and her battle group is from. Also the ship that crash near helsreach, is a ship that belonged to Shadow wolves a now dead chapter. And a successor chapter of the imperial fists and their gene brothers. That is the reason why they never destroy the ship.v

2:30 - You're not wrong. With each episode, the animation gets more clear and detailed. Part of this is the development of the creator's skills and style as the project goes on, but it also represents Grimaldus' self-assuredness and clarity of purpose. As he grows to be more in his element, the animation becomes more clear. 3:36 - As a clarification, there is a difference between Servitors and Servo-Skulls. Servitors are labor droids, often created as punishment for criminals. A servo-skull is generally and assistant or messenger device. Traditionally the skull of a servo skull comes from a loyal or particularly skilled human assistant and is take after they die. Unlike servitors who live on in torment, being turned into a servo-skull is generally considered an honor, as it means the servant can continue to serve even after death. Let's be clear, though, a servo-skull does not retain the intelligence or mind of it's originator. It's just a machine. 3:42 - The calm before the storm. The naval forces are still holding back the orks at this point and Grimaldus still has time to prepare. 4:16 - At least the greatest that the Inquisition will let people remember... 6:00 - Everyone's a badass until the church starts walkin'. 11:17 - To be clear, they don't have A titan, they have 19 titans, including Stormherald, an Imperator-class titan, the most powerful kind of Titan there is. The scale of this thing is so huge that even in the GW tabletop game specifically made to represent titan combat (Adeptus Titanicus), GW refuses to make an Imperator titan because it's still TOO DAMN BIG. 11:26 - InvigiLAta is the name of the Legio that the titan Stormherald belongs to. Much like Space Marines have Chapters, the Titan Legions have Legios. Invigilata is a legio that consists of around 60 titans of various classes. Princeps Majoris Zarha commands a third of the legio's forces with the rest, as she mentioned earlier, being assigned to other warfronts on Armageddon. Since the Adeptus Titanicus is a separate military organization from the Space Marines, Navy, or Imperial Guard, Grimaldus has to treat them like equals rather than subordinates. They are free to fight where they will. He just needed to convince them to fight for Helsreach. 15:04 - 'Daaas a small ship. Small ship.' Okay, full honesty, it's a medium size ship. Your average imperial cruiser is about 10 kilometers long. Smaller ships are about half that, the bigger ones about twice that. 18:18 - The book goes into a little more detail in this scene and we get a little more of Grimaldus' thoughts. Keep in mind that the orks live and die for fighting. Their whole 'kultur' is based on the desire to fight. To an ork a victory is a chance for more fighting and a loss doesn't count because your dead. Either way, you go out fighting. To not only die slowly from injuries, but to have an enemy NOT finish you off when it has the chance is the ultimate insult to an ork, and Grimaldus understood that. 25:45 - A little more detail: The Mechanicum isn't so much a PART of the Imperium as it is an ALLY to them. Back when the Emperor started the Great Crusade, he knew he'd need the help of the Mechanicum to maintain his machinery of war, so he allied with them. They had little motivation to join him until he proved that he might be the Omnisiah, basically engineer Jesus. As much as the Emperor HATED religion in all it's forms, he knew that if he tried to enforce his Imperial Truth on the Mechanicum, they'd never join him, so he treated with them as allies rather than attempting to conquer them. Long story short, they do what they want and only help the Imperium when it serves their own interests (which fortunately it does most of the time). 32:28 - It's not for glory and it's not micromanaging, Grimaldus is just BORED OUT OF HIS FREAKIN' SKULL!!! Black Templars are all about taking the fight to the enemy and here he is trapped waiting for the orks to attack the city. He's like a kid that's been stuck in the house because of the rain. He's jumping at any chance to see some action. Like he says in the Thunderhawk, 'Join me as I shake off this disgust at the stasis gripping my bones and slake my bloodthirst in holy slaughter.' 34:10 - Your expert gives a very general answer here, but the reason is more personal. Priamus is a young, overconfident, vainglorious ASS. He's basically the teenager of the squad. The worst part is that he has the skills to back up his boasts. Grimaldus know that there's PROBABLY nothing in this ship that can give him a serious fight, but he sent him off alone in the hopes that Priamus would find something that would humble him and make him rethink himself (he finds it, as we see, but let me tell you now, he doesn't get the lesson). 37:40 - Patrick bills this as being about Space Marines being broken psyches, but like I said earlier, this wasn't about Space Marines having no mercy, this was about Grimaldus showing utter contempt for his foe. He knew from his experiences with orks that letting it die slowly of battle wounds with no way to fight back would be the ultimate insult for the ork.

About the fight with orcs. In book there is said to be 100 Black Templar under the command of Grimaldus. But do the limits of the animation they focused on Squad Grimaldus. Grimaldus' behaviour changed when he inherited Mordred's tittle as his chapter's Reclusiarch. So his squad member said that Grimaldus is too focused on seeking personal glory and the members of the squad need to deal with it all the time. Grimaldus still has things to do that matters to others and the members of his squad but those things don't make Grimaldus more glorious warrior. There are hints that his squad remembers him more as an amazing fighter than this inspring leader.

I love how the black templars are always the biggest jerks out of all the astartes chapters. Just like good old Dorn. I remember in the book "The Flight of the Eisenstein" where Garo is trying to tell Dorn Horus turned traitor an he almost murders him for saying that. Not knowing how influential Garo was going to be for the rest of the heresy series I honestly thought at the time he was just going to die there. A very 40k thing to survive all that just to murdered by a angry primarch whose on his side.

You guys are doing great. I got 3 things to mention. Titans are really big. I am absolutely ecstatic to see you as do the next 2 parts. And here is a little bit of fun world building. Hive cities should be thought of like icebergs. 90% is underground. Effectively these are plopped down and the citizens dig downward and then sand then send all the stuff and materials they've gathered upward to be processed is the processed by the factories. As you might expect the majority of the citizens of a hive never see daylight. Imagine how big the pyramids would be if they continued 10 times down. These cities end up being hundreds of miles wide the bottom. This is where the wasteland comes in. The wasteland is all the coal ash and debris and whatever else has no use as a bye product from the hive. The hive used to be shorter shorter yet more visible in the past but because of the millennia of of carving downwards the surrounding area around a city is literally a mountain of dust that has compacted around it. This has literal defensive bonuses because you're basically trudging through ash like walking through sand in some cases. It's also ridiculously hazardous to be with this dust which is another defensive bonus. The result of all this dust in all the other hives destroyed the ecosystem of a planet it is placed in overtime. It's really quite something to comprehend what a hive is just for my resources standpoint. The visible part that you will see for the show is more or less the Royal and elite headquarters because it's not underground. This is also why once ork's breach of hive you really can't get them out because they have no issue hiding in a septic room a 1000' down That humans can't enter because its toxic. I mean imagine all of our world's population living in mount Everest. It's crazy to conceive of.

Love the Q & A segments. My interpretation of why Primus is so moody is the fact he's trying to prove himself since he's already getting a reputation despite him being the youngest member of the squad. However, because him being the youngest, he sometimes feels like the others are holding him back or constantly doing these battles like the ship raid that feels so pointless or beneath him. This could create some resentment so when they start raiding the ship, Grimaldus lets him go alone to rack up kills as a form of trust in primus's skills (perhaps Grimaldus can relate since he's also seeking glory). However, when Primus goes missing, Grimaldus probably feels responsible and decides to look for him himself. When Primus wakes up, he's probably really pissed because of how embarrassed he is that he let an Ork get the drop on him like that and probably made him look incompetent.

Seeing that all the people have the lore department covered I wanted to share something with you guys. The story of helsreach is about Grimaldus’s mental state, and the whole animation is reflective of it, when his master died and grimaldus had to take his position the lines were blurred, as you pointed out at first it was even hard to make up shapes. Grimaldus in the ship wanted to raise morale, a victory for his Templars and for himself. When he found the Ork with Arterion it was funny to him, in the book was even mentioned that he was smiling under the helmet. A darkness in his mind as Arterion puts it. You guys will see as the story progresses how he feels and how he reacts. I’m so glad you guys are continuing this and I hope you have a great day!

One more comment, it was interesting to hear your expert reaction to Primus going out on his own. I always interpreted it the other direction. Grimaldis Is just not 100% in this fight. His mind is tethered to the glory that he wants and he wants to be attacking and not defending. Grimaldis with his head screwed on right would have demanded primus to stick with the group. I believe that's why he was called out by the other one in his squad about spreading his darkness. He's not making rational decisions because of his mindset and he almost got one of their own killed for are literally no reason by letting him break doctrine to get his own glory. Ironically it seems the rest of his squad has already gotten past this This portion of the anger of being left to die. I think your expert may be right but I think my interpretation connects a few more dots. The beauty of interpreting a video like a Religious text is what this is all about. One other aspect of this. Black templars do not have sergeants in their squads. They are rather unique about this. The purpose of a sergeant and any other chapter is to unify to unify the squad together under one mind. Because of the structure of the black templars are unified because they pick each other to be in them. They are all of one mind and purpose. I think this makes them especially cognizant when someone is not with the group. Grimaldis stands alone Which again goes back to the conversation where his shadow calls him out on his mindset.

I consider Part 4 to be the best, personally, because it gives the viewer the staggering weight of one…ONE Hive City, how many things go into its defense, and the oceans worth of enemies the Imperium must fight to protect it. Remember, the entire Planet is being invaded, and the Imperium has over a MILLION worlds to defend give or take. Imagine how difficult it is to maintain some level of order on any of these planets. And Grimaldus has a very human moment of loosing his composure over someone he admires being in danger and him being too far away to help. I can relate….that said….Episode 11 is a banger

the mighty god machine you witnessed in this video is one of the rare Imperator Class titans, the size of these things vary in the lore but they always carry weapons capable of obliterating hive cities with their weapons (at least in lore) to tame the machine spirit of this titan the princess needs to be extremely skilled and focused to not let it grasp the control from him or her. about the titans name it is Stormherald, since it is an imperator class and has such an important princess it is in charge of a titan legion with the name of invigilata I actually recommend you read the novel about helsreach as well, it is a good read
@Ddarth_sidious
@Ddarth_sidious 2 жыл бұрын
Great reaction, guys. I highly suggest that you watch 7&8 parts together (the speech and the battle) too. The Legio Invigilata has orders from their command stuff to deploy wherever and help whatever Imperium forces they see fit. Later in the series Yarrick would said that Helsreach hive/city would become the secondary theatre of war - the main actions would be near the Hemlock River (Princeps Majoris Zarha Mancion mention that she had petition to deploy her forces there to help Salamanders and Sebastian Yarrick's own Imperial Guard Steel Legion of Armageddon). About titan-consciousness you misunderstand WHAT the Titan mean to the Adeptus Mechanicus - such rare god machine (Imperium doesn't manufacture more Imperator class titans - only lesser/smaller machines) it's literally their God Machine maid steel/flesh - it's like an avatar of their God walking among their most faithful to destroy the enemies of Mankind and to pilot such god-walker for the super religious people like AdMechs is for chrisitans to be INSIDE for example Archangel Michael while he is slaying daemon and enemies of God. AND YOU DOING it with your own hands - you feel titan weapon as your own flash, you feel the machine pain when it gets damage etc etc. It's simply not worth living your mere human live when you could be literal demi god of battle - the walking avatar of the Omnissiah wrath upon the hateful abominable foes. It's THE greatest honor, the princeps who could tame/connect to such powerful titans is even more rarely than to be Grey Knights aspirants or Adeptus Custodes - it's like 1 to trillions or something like it. Your will is so strong (to tame such weapon of mass destruction) that you are a literal God Machine anointed one. About the Orks "mercy death" - the Artarion even said "IT'S EXISTENCE OFFENDS ME" - it's so well described. Orks (and all hateful xenos) are a tumors upon mankind - it's like a virus to destroy the sentient life (from Imperium perspective at least), there is some xenos (like Dark Eldars) in the same way as the victim in Nazi death camps feel to his tormentors. YOU WANT to infict pain and death and ruin to it in millions time more than it died crushed by some rocks. The Adepta Sororitas/Sisters of Battle (you'll see them later in the series) even has a battle cry/litany: "By bolter shell, flamer burst and melta blast, the mutant, the heretic and the traitor alike are cleansed of their SIN OF EXISTENCE. So has it been for five millennia, so shall it be unto the end of time." that is the level of hate we are talking about, and know what? In 40k it's completely justified. You can't "negotiate" with tyranids, dark eldar or chaos daemons. I suggest you watching Templin institute videos about 40k factions (like Imperium, Orks, Nyds, Necrons etc) - they manage to fit so much lore with such cool narration and video (artworks) in like 15-20 minutes. And later "Bricky every 40k faction" 2 parts like an hour each - he cover (in funny and memes way) all the main factions and events in 40k lore. Peace to your home.

To put things in perspective Grimaldus led 100 marines in helsreach but the story is narrowed to his squad but all across the planet at one point there was fifty thousand space marines involved and considering that there is technically only ment to be one million marines in the galaxy having that many in one place is the rarest of rare events in a galaxy where entire generations can go by and no one ever sees a space marine let alone 100 of them.

The Titan's name is Storm Herald, which is known as an Imperator Titan. A very rear and powerful one. Due to both these facts this makes the Princps (Main Piolet) to gain rank among the Ligeo. Invigulata is the name of said Ligeo. Much like a space marine legion has many chapters baring different colers, themes and traditions the same applies to a Liego from the Caligia Titanica (the term for titan department).

I want to give a different perspective on Primus' leaving on his own. The Black Templars are first and foremost dualists and swordsmen. The founder of their chapter was a guy named Sigismund who was, among other things, the Emperor's personal sparring partner and Champion (as well as being one of the top 5 most badass astartes of all time). During the final battle of the Heresy Sigismund was given a super powerful sword and armor and sent onto the field to locate and destroy Heretic leadership and powerful warriors. That tradition has persisted through the Black Templars and they have a special position known as the Emperor's Champion (we will see one in a later Helsreach episode), I think Primus is being eyed as a future Champion by Grimaldus and they let him go off on his own to see how he would do.

Yes and no the titans who whilst are a part of the mechanicus don’t actually follow the mechanicus command structure however it is dependent on what faction allegiance such as the imperial faction which worships the emperor and follows the imperium and the mechanicus faction which follows the mechanicus, however each titan legion is controlled by a princeps seniorus who has overall command over a titan battle group which can range from anywhere up to six to thirty titans and during the crusade a single titan legion would have over a hundred titans under its command. Each titan legion is much like the space marines their own separate entity where they have connections with the mechanicus they have the power to choose where they go and How they fight be it aggressively or defensively, and organizations like the guard or even a planetary leader has no authority over a titan legion let alone a titan and so requires cooperation as well as coaxing and persuasion, other than that they’re free to operate however they see fit

OH yes, those Secutarii (The Titanguard) would have fought and died without hesitation to defend their God-Engine, no matter that the math says they die quickly and without much effect. The Mechanicum was originally an Ally by Treaty to the Imperium. The Emperor landed on The Forge-world Principal (Mars) and convinced the Mechanicum that he was an Avatar of their Machine God (The Omnissiah) and penned the Treaty of Olympus Mons, under which the Imperium guaranteed the Mechanicum a large degree of autonomy including that they were allowed to continue worshipping their god (huge no-no to the Emperor) and that they would be allowed to scour the galaxy for information and technology. In return the Mechanicum would manufacture and supply the Imperium with ships, armaments, and other technology as needed. Invigilata is the name of the Titan Legion, a group of anywhere between 3 and 50 titans of varying sizes. Stormherald is an Imperator Class Titan, the largest of the God-Machines. Think of each Titan Legio as its own sort of Lordly House, with a Princeps Majoris, who leads the legion, and a number of minor moderati and princeps as sorts of Knights or minor members. To be frank, yes, a single Imperator God-Machine could very well turn the tide of most any war, much less a single siege, but as with many things about this animation series (which is a masterpiece on its own) there were multiple titans defending Helsreach. As Zarha said, she represents a third of the legion who walk under her banner. The Third War for Armageddon was BIG. "The largest greenskin incursion in Imperial history". Its no normal war. It is largely not a thing for a non-brother to see a chaplain without his helmet, think of it as a priest in confessional, you dont see them, you ritualistically arent confessing to the man, but the god they represent through that person. The chaplains are the same way, assisting in the spiritual health of the legion by acting as confessors and disciplinarians. The Xenos, especially those who actively harm humanity, aren't just scum, they are abhorrent. They deserve all of the pain and torment a good servant of the God-Emperor can deliver upon them. They are heretical, destructive, and antithetical to the prosperity of mankind and should be terminated with the most extreme of prejudice. In like kind, the Xenos Greenskin would do exactly the same to them given the chance. The Orks live to fight and kill and gladly do it for entertainment often killing each other more often than they do other races. 40k basically coined the term grim-dark. The stories and setting are built upon the facts of that universe. "In the Grim Dark future, there is only war." "nothing but an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods." That the galaxy is dying, slowly, and chaos is inevitably spreading. Mankind is a slowly rotting corpse of a species that is merely attempting to hold on to its existence, despite its vast holdings. Everyone from the lowliest hiver to the Emperor's own guard are subject to this. The stories told are about how humans (and transhumans/posthumans) confront death and destruction and adversity. How they either uphold their virtues, or succumb to despair and fall to chaos etc. Thats not to say there arent prosperous and even eden-like places in the Imperium. During the war here on Armageddon, there are also a great many places experiencing long lasting peace and prosperity, whole pleasure-worlds where the inhabitants know naught but bliss. But eventually, the terror comes for everyone, and those places too will face their apocalypse.

Every one titan lifts a war into apocalyptic scale. They use weapons that can level a city block with one shoot. They can single handedly destroy armies. What Gremaldus did their was an extrem risky move. If he offended the wrong tech priest or the princeps majoris. They belong to the mechanicus so they can say f you we are leaving. The Mechanicus is not really a part of the Imperium and the Titan Legions are loyal to the Mechanicus and Mars and not Terra.

@@GMineo so what makes titans so awesome for me. First its their ridiculous size. Even the smallest titan is bigger than a imperial knight. So they stride over the battlefield with steps that make the earth shake. So the Warhound scout titans are used for reconisance and ambushes against larger foes. They relay their information back to the legion or the manipel ( a grouping of titans is called a battle manipel. It contains most often two scout titans that deal with lesser enemys and one or two battle titans for bigger enemies) Also they often have a anti infantry and light vehicle role so they are equipped with vulcan mega bolters ( gatling bolters that shoot rounds that create 3m big craters in concrete/ nickname the laughter of the devil or the mist maker) or flamers the size of leman russ battle tanks, plasma destructors and laser blasters vor medium and heavy tanks. The next bigger on is the reaver battle titan. Its a little bit slower than the warhound but much more heavily armed. They are bigger and carry guns that are for the destruction of other titans or super heavy vehicles like the baneblade. They carry missile launchers or heavy laser cannons on their back andd they can use heavy onslaught gatling cannons or heavy lasercanons as long range weapons. They also can be outfitted with close combat weapons such as power fists or giant chain saws. The battle titans have no enemy on the battlefield except other Maschines of similar size and firepower. The next is the warbinger. He is a rarer but also extremely helpful. He is a designated titan hunter. He uses the massive back mounted quake cannon to snipe titans across the battle field. Every quake shell creates a earth quake that is strong enough to break even the mightiest fortress. In every quake shell is a part of an planet inbeded that has been victim of an exterminatus, and its been sad that you can hear the screams of the billions of people that were killed during the exterminatus when the shell flies through the air. Next up is the Warlord titan. The most used variant of the battle titans. With a hight of 60 meters he is the king of battlefield and only dwarfed by two other classes of titans. They deserve their title of God Engines. (This is also the one in the horus heresy trailer) They carry four titan great weapons into war. Something as destructive as the sun fury plasma annahilator. It unleashes the power of a small sun. Or a similar quake gun to the warbringer. Or the Vulcano Gun that is the massive version of a Las Cannon. It only leaves molten slag behind if it hits a enemy. Or a massive Gatling Gun. Or a power fist because why not. On their shoulders they most often field either to apocalypse rocket launchers with different kinds of rockets or three barreld laser destructors. Also a weapon on it self is the warhorn. Its used to communicate but its also used to challenge other opponents and it brings dispair and fear to the enemys of the omnissiah. And to his believers it brings the knowledge that the holy wrath of the omnissiah has arrived. It sounds like a fog horn of a big ship and a whale. Its so awesome. Than their is the new introduced Warmaster and Warmaster Iconoclast Titan. The Warlord reaches him to the waist. The „normal“ Warmaster is equipped with two suzerain class plasma annahilators. Its a four barreled plasma gun. And the Iconoclast has a massive massive chainsword and either a grav cannon or a siege drill. And then comes the herold of the omnissiahs wrath made manifest. These Maschines are Gods on and of the battlefield. It is the emperor class titan. It is both a war Maschine without real enemy and a temple to the omnissiah. The super structure on his back is a giant church covert in guns. You probably seen the meme : Everybody gangsta till the church starts walking. This is peak 40k. And as a Guardsmen you know your boned when you see one of this god engines walking. So next point what is so great about Titans. Their Legions and their names. Every titan has a high gothic name. And every legion has a high and low gothic name.( so high gothic is the pseudo latin in 40k) So here are some names: Dies Irea ( Emperor class titan of the Legio Mortis/ death heads) Axis Mundi ( emperor class Apocalyptus credo ( Warlord) Astrus Lux ( warhound, legio tempestus/stormlords) Bellum Sacrum ( reaver class / legio atarus) Gloria Vastator ( warlord class/ legio pallidus mor) Cannos ultra ( warhound) I think you get the point Each Maschine has its detailed history and battle victories. They present it proud on their banners. They are big fabric banners hung from the titans. With all its engine kills and the battles and crusades it took part. Also the crew has its own banner. Every titan independent of size is commanded by a princeps. The Princeps is the one that connects with the Maschine spirit of the titan. The Maschine Spirit in a titan can be extremly dangerous and hard to control. A Princeps has to keep it controlled and has to bargain with it. If they slipp just for a second the Maschine spirit can overload them and destroy their mind and soul. They get lost in the Maschine spirit and become part of the Titan. So depending on the size every titan also has co pilots called moderatii. They are Princeps in training. They command the weapons and other smaller systems. It also has a Techpriest that oversees maintenance and systems. I hope you know now why i love titans so much. Tried my best with the English its hard if its not your first language 😅 And if you need help with lore hit me up. I know one or two things.

I highly recommend watching Arch's video on the third war for Armageddon. He goes into very good detail (as much as can be done) on the numbers deployed by the imperium.
