I really fell in love with ASOIAF minis - already painted a whole bunch of them - and the techniques you describe are doing great on them: lots of furs and cloaks, and textures, etc.

I do enjoy watching you paint warhammer fantasy miniatures and any opportunities to seeing your armies come together as they grow is a bonus, who doesn't love to admire a collection in a showcase and its updates over time. Looking forward to picking up the books upon release for the fluff and eyecandy, just as much as the rules, and of course raise.. I mean.. buy some more Tomb Kings

Painting up a Dwarf Army from Highland Miniatures. Green and yellow predominately. I have been painting very much in the same vein as your videos (just not as good yet). Keep up the good work! Repainting a Beastmen Army is next on my list!

Another great tutorial Stu. I’ll be curious to see what colours GW shows as examples in their upcoming Arcane Journal. The empire colour schemes are based on region and I suppose Bretonnians will be more based on the Duke although that also probably aligns with a regional approach. Red and blue might work well?
@adron1261
@adron1261 6 ай бұрын
Red and Blue is a classic Bret scheme. Couronne (north west) home of the previous (pre end times) King.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 6 ай бұрын
I think it will be a mix, there’s a lot of recognisable regions on the map, and then there will be the Border Princes Dukes and Barons as well.

@@MiniatureRealms My archers are blue and yellow (have been since I started them in 5th ed), I have a handful of knights is a few schemes so I plan to have at least a unit of mixed heraldry knights. Looking back over the heraldry section of the old bret army book I was liking the idea of picking a region and using several colour combos but keeping a unified heraldic symbol, maybe the dragon of Bastonne.

Great tutorial! How did you find painting the Man at Arms with the shield on? Would you recommend gluing it or sub assembly?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 5 ай бұрын
Thank you 🙂. You know what, I was worried at first but it was totally fine, and for rank and file painting them all separately would have been a pain as well. The men at arms sculpts are strange as well, the stop at the elbow on the body, and the hand and forearm are part of the shield.
@odycayblue
@odycayblue 5 ай бұрын
@@MiniatureRealms if it saves time I’m all about it!
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 5 ай бұрын
@odycayblue Absolutely. Very often the perception is sub assembly saves time and increases quality, and it can very well do that. But if you’re painting an army, and are comfortable that you can’t see what’s behind the shield (in this example) anyway, then it’s not always the time saver it appears. You also have to glue on after painting, which means superglue and the potential of frosting on the paint work.

@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 4 ай бұрын
I don’t for these, I find I can get to enough of the model so no unpainted area shows. Theres obviously a part that I can’t get to, but it’s fully hidden, and for rank and files I don’t mind that. The arms are attached to the shield as well, so that’s another reason I fully assembled, but it’s a personal choice thing really.

Man I really want to get into the slap chop style i just don't see how it's possible to fix mistakes. I've been a wash fan for a long time, just filling in all the parts with their colors then covering sins by blending with a wash. But it's really easy to fix things that way. You can go back and forth as many times as you need to keep the right colors in the right places. But how do you fix mistakes? If you get brown all over your yellow areas how to you fix it? Do you repaint the white first? How do you fix the zenithal transition? Do you you mask and reairbrush?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 5 ай бұрын
I guess much of that depends on the final finish you’re after. For 80/90% of the miniature I’m just using underpainting to as a base coat, and then highlighting further on top, so I get plenty of chance to tidy bits up then. If I do make small errors in the base coat, then I find tidying with white, or even grey then white restores the effect enough.

I do like your painting style Stuart. I am unfortunately not willing to trust GW anymore and have little faith that these miniatures will be at a decent price and that they will produce enough of them. I also can't get out of my head the feeling that they can and will cancel this line at any time because they have done so so many times in the past. I am not working on anything right now as I have no miniatures in house. I am waiting for some to arrive early next week. I will be painting 15mm early world war two miniatures. I ordered a bunch of French, Polish and German infantry and support weapons so I shall finally be embarking upon early war ww2 using the venerable Command Decision Test of Battle rules and also giving O Group a whirl since basing is not a problem for either set.
@MiniatureRealms

That sounds like an interesting project, must admit I’m not that familiar that first set of rules you’ve mentioned.

Command Decision is a long running series of rules for ww1 and ww2. They are considered the gold standard for ww2 miniature gaming at the battalion scale where each stand is a platoon. I've had the pleasure of knowing the two authors and gaming with them so it became my go to rules. Unfortunately I've been largely out of the miniature gaming hobby for a number of years just doing 28mm and then I decided it was time to go back to where it all started 15mm ww2 and now I get to start afresh. @@MiniatureRealms

Lots of alternatives out there for those who don’t like the old minis. But sadly TOW is no longer a main line game (that’s only really 40K & AOS), the sheer amount of minis needed for this game always meant they’d have to return to the old ones. Out of a lot of the old ones, I actually think these men-at-arms stand up better than a lot of the others.

With them existing as traditional sculpts and not digital files, that’s a whole lot of scanning to do. I’m also not sure GW are going to give away 40 years of IP as files, would seem like a strange choice.
