​@@insomniacbritgaming1632 Now looking back I'm very glad they killed fantasy, this way we get more of the older gorgeous miniatures back as if they kept it going they would have updated a lot and I'm sure without AOS they would have simplified the rules so much it wouldn't be fantasy anymore or at least very different like 40K now compared to 7th ed. Even though I was pissed about them destroying it for years, this really is the best option although obviously would be great to have all armies in the game properly with models available.

@@MiniatureRealms That’s certainly true and I think we also appreciate it much more having lost it once. I think that by 7th and definitely by 8th Warhammer Fantasy had become sort of mundane and lost some of it’s magic, both among it’s writers and players. Now there's a great new energy and enthusiasm for it which shows and obviously a grognard like me loves the fact it’s an openly "classic" game in terms of rules and models. I'm sure there will be plenty of new ones with it’s success, but I'm sure GW sees that there’s lots of appetite for the older stuff too. They would be silly not to capitalize on that, minimal costs upfront with lots of sales potential!

That was really awesome seeing what it looked like on the open day. I for one who is very far removed from the area really appreciate seeing what it looked like. Orcs and Goblins are looking very good. I appreciate the factions now coming in battalion boxes to reduce the number of rulebooks someone would end up dealing with if buying more than one box

Yeah I think if they kept rulebooks in they may create a second hand market that would rival their own rulebook sales, and that’s something they also have to keep in stock, so print runs are important.

I was telling people it would be back in 2016. Deader than a door nail they said.. Now I'll tell ya Old World enthusiasm exceeded even my expectations. We'll not only see new models, but multiple iterations in time. The Flagship is back!

Absolutely! I don’t think it will be a flagship again, but it has a life as a solid SDS game, and I agree that we will see more editions, and factions/models, and hopefully the other factions fully return in time.

The "returning resin" models were FW products. They did some (fantastic) monsters and command pieces for several armies.

Thanks for the video. I received an e-mail yesterday from GW stating the Necrosphyinx was available again, by the time I saw the e-mail 3 hours later, they were sold out again. Ugh, well, keep trying I guess. :)

Frustrating isn’t it, but at least they’re working to get stuff back in stock, so hopefully more I’ll be in soon. I want some Tomb guard, but I don’t think they can back in, or at least we’re gone by the time I checked.

Really nice video, loads to see! The castle diorama... 7th son used a castle from a company, and it looked similar. Could you replicate with that? Was there a good age spread, ie 3rd or 4th Ed age to 8th?

I love the coverage of the Old World and regret swopping my dwarf army for some ww2 Commandos years ago. But, think it would be too much work to start an army from fresh and will wait and see what happens with the system. But, never say never ;)

Just get warriors of chaos and build about 60 models, 50 of them will be in full armour and just need sprayed + a wash & a couple of details picked out, the other 10 will be monsters you can speedpaint. Go on, it's going to be so nice to be able to easily find people to play with :)

It’s a great question, but I really don’t know. If we knew how much a box of men-at-arms or Skellies were we could have a better guess, as I’m sure they will be out on their own soon. I’m hoping no more than £100 max, and think it would be great if they were more like £85-90.

Great vid dude. Those basic orc infantry are 1999-2000, the plastic goblins are 2000, Ork chariot 2000.... the boar boyz (the only models that are really good by today's standards here, in plastic) are 2010. It's just insulting selling this tosh to us if that battalion box set is more than £50. And metal? They could have produced ALL these metal models in resin. They chose metal because it was cheaper - and they're selling you that metal at just under TWICE the price that their competitors are selling metal miniatures at. They are treating us like mugs. Zero respect. When we ask, again, why Warhammer The Old World died, see above for half the reason. The other reason is the rulebook.

Thank you 🙂 It’s a tough one with the old minis, and many people just won’t go for them and either not play, or seek alternatives. I get why they had to do it though, there’s just too many miniatures to do them all new, even with half the factions. Someone else very correctly pointed out the other day, even AOS is still using old fantasy miniatures still, they still have managed to replace the whole range yet. I doubt it will be £50 sadly, but I think it will be a decent value in the context of GW prices. The cost of metal has actually risen exponentially in the last few years, so it may well be costing them more than resin. Now a company the size of GW will be able to buy it in amounts that gives bulk discount, but it’s still not cheap. I’ve spoken to Paul Sawyer and John Stallard at Warlord Games about this, even they’re being priced out of metal, that is why we see the rise of Siocast resin in the medium sized wargaming companies. The fact that some stuff is coming back in resin suggests they’re doing that where they can, but they’re very careful to stress that Finecast has gone, and I’d imagine some of these old miniatures are suitable to put into mass production in the resin the Forgeworld uses. Or the cost and lifespan of resin moulds doesn’t suit either. But imagine that’s closer to the mark than saving money on metal, which is now the most expensive materiel in many ways. The game was viable before in its own right, but not compared to the performance of its other games at the time. Check out Alan Merret’s interview on the Jordan Sorcery channel, he talks about it a bit there. They made so much money in a 40K release month compared to a Fantasy one, it made no sense to given up sales where they could do something else. IP also played a large part as well. Like or loath AOS it’s worked for them, and proved them right as far as business decisions go. I think the modern business structure works for them to bring it back now. The nostalgia market is real, there’s a definite group of gamers who are drawn to more SDS products, and we’ve seen the success of Horus Heresy games, Necromunda, Blood Bowl etc (Middle-earth to a certain extent as well though it’s slightly different), TOW falls into that market now. I’m not sure where the game would have gone had it kept going, we maybe on a 11th/12th edition now. But I’m not sure the game would be what we appear to have now. Rules wise it looks like it’s seen what the community has done in its absence, and taken the feel from much of what people have been playing (WAP, 6th, some 8th etc). So I think the gap has done it good in a strange way (as much as I still wish it never went), if we get a second edition in 3-4 years with all the factions back I’ll be super happy.
