Warlock's INCREDIBLE 0 Magical Healing Build | Dark and Darker

Just an update to the build! Malice is no longer worth running due to a nerf to Will’s scaling. Potions were changed to a Magical Healing source, making Vamperism a great pick now and my preference especially for the potion interaction. (Remember magical healing does not increase life drain’s healing, however, vampirism is an exception and does). I’ve also switched out Soul Collector for Dark Enhancement. This means I do less damage on dark reflection and my first bolt, but my damage is more consistent and I do not need to worry about saving my stacks to do damage, or restacking after a fight. In Duos/Trios I now run Lifedrain, Hydra, CoP, Bolt and Flame Walker as my spells and Phantomise as my skill. And if my damage is very high (over 40 on a curse of pain on the test dummy), I’ll now bring a purple/legendary spell book to cast faster and be more mobile in a fight. I feel this is a high level tactic but worth sharing regardless. I still recommend magic staffs for getting to higher damage numbers faster!

I messed around with a very similar build this past weekend in solos with some mixed success. In normal lobbies I was using White Staff, oracle robe, occultist boots, rawhide gloves and shadow mask to push knowledge high enough to use lifedrain, hydra, CoP Bolt and Flamewalker. I was using phantomize. Flamewalker into phantomize can be fun to run on top of your opponent or a train of mobs. I'd say one big downside I began to realize is that if you are clearing PVE with your spells it is very very loud. It is very powerful in PVE but extremely loud. It is damn near impossible to hear other players approaching and I am sure they hear you from far away. So, often (barbs/rog/fighter) people were getting the jump on me and wrecking me before I could properly respond. I began to adjust a little and clear PVE with a bardiche and pause to listen. It helped some but I still got owned a good bit. But, i've only been playing the game about a month so still learning! Thanks for the guide.

@dustymetso as in level 20? Just by killing as many mobs as possible and consistently escaping! It takes time but it’s pretty easy for an experienced player to go from level 1 to 20, on average it takes me about 3-4 hours to complete.

@dustymetso I decided to start this recent wipe as a Warlock going from Slayer fighter, and I didn't have any issues leveling it up, even with a bad build. Learn how to melee mobs/enemies and just take that info into your class, or practice that as your focus. (I started fighter specifically so I could learn how to fight everything.) I actually found Staff to be a little wonky at first, but give it some time getting used to the range of the swings and it was working just fine for me.

I wanted to point out that Vampirism actually does work on Life Drain now as of a hotfix or two ago. Not sure if a bug or not, but it does indeed work (personally tested with and without the perk to demonstrate, and had personally tested BEFORE when it did NOT work).

This video doesn’t say that Vamperism doesn’t work, it says don’t bring it, as you’re hurting your build‘s efficiency and wasting a perk slot. (Since the Magical Healing changes to potions, I now bring Vampirism)

Great vid and summary! People are sleeping on magic damage with the warlock and just buy magic healing. I don’t think people understand that Warlock can build higher magic damage than even the wizard with how the perks scale. Awesome stuff Dowsey

I tried this build for a couple days always going pretty budget. I think it's great for solo farming but I ran into trouble in PvP against Barb, Fighters, and other melee warlocks. I'm just not used to the cast speed of the staff and I feel like people can cross a whole room by the time I even get a cast off.

the Dark Enhancement Perk also increases Dark Reflection damage. I run a lot of normal Goblin Caves, so I don't run into a ton of Wizards. YMMV but I drop Antimagic for Dark Enhancement in Normal Solo runs

i thought magical damage on the catalysts just made your spells hit harder? thats why when you heal off hydra using life drain with a crystal ball vs healing with a staff, the staff heals more because the staff has higher magical damage usually than a ball yes I tested this. magical damage matters for catalysts like the book, the staff and the ball. the more magical damage you have the more damage with your spells you will do and the more HP you will heal off of hydra I used hydra then healed with 3 different magical catalysts to test and see if I was getting more or less healing based on the catalyst's magical damage value these tests were done with default gear (frock, wizard shoes) perks : soul collector, antimagic, dark reflection and dark enHANCEment (not enchantment, that doesnt exist.) here are the tests results: ball - 1 magical damage 14 healing off of hydra using lifedrain book 2 magical damage 17 healing off of hydra using lifedrain staff 6 magical damage 26 healing off of hydra using lifedrain

You can play torture mastery instead of the 25% Magical damage reduction. If you have for example just a pendant with +3 magical healing you can use both hydra + lifedrain AND get health from attacking players/mobs with curses. Build knowledge pieces with addition magical damage.

I wouldn’t recommend that, the point of life drain is affordability and simplicity. To use torture mastery requires incredible financial cost and an hour in trade channel finding the perfect gear. In solo play, that just isn’t viable, the risk of dying and losing everything is too much. Not to mention, losing antimagic is actually death in the current wizard meta.

Bro the point of my build was about survivability, It deals next to no damage compared to this set up, They are good at different things. I think you can play this set up to rank 1 easily as well. And his build is WAY cheaper to set up making it hella cost efficient. My build is for me and how I play, I dont need to deal tons of damage, I just need to survive. This build is for destroying life bars and it will excel in said task way better and for way cheaper.
