I just watched this movie for the second time, first when it just came out, and I noticed something I did not pay attention to at all, at first: R (or rather, his actor) is one of the most expressible characters I've ever seen, or at least remember ever seeing 👍 It doesn't matter much that he has trouble talking, he doesn't NEED to talk, for you can see pretty much EVERYTHING in his eyes, in the subtle changes in the eyes, position of the lids, eyebrows. His mouth most often stays 'durrr' while you can see a full range of emotions in his eyes alone - sadness, fascination, hesistation, joy, shyness, everything. No clue how the actor is doing rn, but that is one hell of a talent in my opinion at least.

All the humans did being trapped behind that wall. That's how we felt in this pandemic. All of us felt dead like a corpse struggling how to live again.

I'm not blaming R, after all, he's a zombie and he doesn't do it on purpose. He starts to change after he gets to know Julie. He told Julie the truth, and Julie forgave him for understanding him. and Julie left everything in the past and started a new life with R.

(Yeah, Julie kinda stabbed him), but when R did ate his brain and recall someone's memories, I bet that was quite of his key back to humanity; to feel human again... They probably thought eating those humans and their brains was also the only way to live again, but it wasn't.

I like the movie way better than the book, and one of the reasons is because in the book in this scene R only notices Julie’s presence after eating Perry’s brain so we don’t really know if he would have fallen for her if it wasn’t for him consuming Perry’s memories and feelings for her, but in the movie they added that moment when R sees Julie for the first time and it’s implied he felt something for her even before he killed Perry, it even gave the impression that R picked Perry as his victim because he was mad that he ruined his moment when he shot him
