This video was really needed. There is no other video on KZbin showing this level of detailed assembly of the 8274. Much appreciated MadMatt

This is great. I have not see a winch rebuild video before. I had my Warn winch in recently for a warranty repair. The customer service was great but after watching this, I am feeling a little lacking in my mechanical skills ha ha !

@@MadMatt4WD the brake disks we get here in the states are junk. I’ve broken 2 sets already trying to do this. I finally ordered some of the over sized ones you guys get. I’ve been working on getting this done for a few days and it’s just a pain. But some have the gift and some don’t. I guess I don’t. I can fix a big cat motor no problem but this winch. It’s a pain.

Very interesting Matt. Now I know what JJ used to talk about when he work at Giggle Pin. Different gear sets to give different speeds and pulls. Small diameter drums, elongated drums and the rest. Also Twin & Quad motor options plus 12 & 24 volt running. Looking forward to the next instalment. Crack on & stay safe on the trails 😀👍🇬🇧🇦🇺

Matt, loved the detailed assmbly! Do the larger gears also get grease or oil? As a smart 4 Wheeler once said, "It is better to have a Warn Winch than a worn wench..."
@MadMatt4WD3 жыл бұрын
Lol. Yes it has a small amount of gear oil added

easy trick with the 21 ball bearings: use a magnet on the brake disc (doesn't even have to be super strong) and it'll hold em in place. no grease needed!

Looks like the 'WinchGear' stuff is a straight up copy of the Gigglepin stuff...Im surprised your keen to support such a concept Matt. But each to their own.
@MadMatt4WD3 жыл бұрын
Brent I don’t know if it’s that or not. I’ve never run anything Gigglepin. I do know that Winchgear makes the stuff themselves and it’s done in Australia so I like that side of things for sure. Anyway. Each to their own ay. What Giggle pin set up do you run?
@bjones52403 жыл бұрын
@@MadMatt4WD gigglepin invented the initial brake shaft upgrades for the 8274’s. The winch gear stuff is just a copy of it, slightly cheaper! Gigglepin are a UK Mob that have been doing the high mount stuff for many years now. They make twin motor top hats etc...each to their own but ripping off IP, R&D and selling it, isn’t something I’d support
@MadMatt4WD3 жыл бұрын
I know Gigglepin and I know who Jim Marsden is. I think we need to be careful with this line of thinking because if we follow it through then many things become a problem. For example. Whoever came up with the concept of modifying a suspension system on a vehicle is the only who is ever allowed to do it. The first person to design a bullbar is the only one who can build bull bars. These may not be the best examples but you get the idea I’m sure. I think the key thing is that a company is making the effort to design and build there own version of a given product which to my knowledge is what Winchgear are doing. Of course it looks the same as Gigglepins. But funnily enough his looks similar to the Warn variants with His take on the Warn design. So in a sense Warn should be the ones going crook about Gigglepin. Unless I get information come to hand that shows me the Winchgear has been unethical I’m comfortable that I’ve represented my brand honestly at this time.
@MadMatt4WD3 жыл бұрын
Also I’ve heard how Jim first got to redesigning the warn winch and that’s a very good yarn on The Talent Tank podcast. I don’t think Winchgear is trying to claim they came up with these upgrades first. I would certainly give Jim the credit there.
