Don't worry, The Exorcist and Enter the Dragon UHD are 100% coming out separately, in special editions, steelbooks and maybe fullslips with cards and such, by August or a bit later. I know a guy working on film releases and he told me so. So at least these teo, and likely all of them. It's Warner, they've released each of these films 5-25 times... 🤣

You’re reaction is justified. It might make sense for some (like me) who still only have blu-rays, digital &/or DVDs of these to do a bulk upgrade, but it’s pricey if you’ve kept up with these individually. The cardboard sleeves stink. It’s what they did for their 100 Years blu-ray set. At least those were side-loading, not lop loading (in terms of dust collection). This wisely breaks the collection into 4 parts instead of two enormous 25-movie books

They're also releasing three £50 4k collection sets for 'Classic Hollywood', 'New Hollywood' and 'Modern Blockbusters' - each of which only come with a handful of the movies from the bigger £300 release, rather than all from each period. I get that getting those three would make it £150, so a lot cheaper than the bigger set and therefore less movies, but it's still so confusing. Why not three £100 sets and anyone with gaps in their collection/affinity for an era can get those?

I'm not buying it! I think it's as close to a sure thing as anything that a 4K release of "The Exorcist" (1973) will be released separately. It will probably be around the same time as the new sequel "The Exorcist" which is to be released on Friday the 13th of October, 2023.

I find it amazing that they've done this, I collect boutique releases, but have never spent more than £75 on a single release (I think for Fassbinder Arrow Academy box set). I cannot work out who their audience is, most normal people won't have £300 to drop on a set of disconnected, random films. With the state of this economy, my spending habits have gone down, I can't imagine this selling well at all...

There are so many Golden Age Warner Bros. classics missing, IT IS RIDICULOUS! Just an example of many: how about a 4K Blu ray of two Errol Flynn/Raoul Walsh classics, "They Died With Their Boots On" and "Gentleman Jim."

Those movies are mostly only going to be of interest to film fanatics, not the general consumer. Therefore I highly doubt they would ever get a 4k release. I don't think Warner is going to put effort and money into releasing such a random title on 4k that the average consumer probably has never heard of. I'm sure those movies are readily available through their "Warner Archive Collection" on DVD and Blu Ray. A side note, as someone who still occasionally buys DVDs/Blu Rays, I don't see the big appeal of 4k. Im perfectly satisfied with DVDs/Blu Rays. In fact, I think we're lucky we have distributors who are still releasing physical media, so I'm not complaining.

I have looked at the 30-disc big box and see the collection is structured as Classic Hollywood 1930s to 1960s, New Hollywood 1970s to 1980s and Modern Blockbusters 1990s to today ... but here's the oddity, Warners are also selling individual 4K sets using the same three titles. Classic comprises 5 movies from the 10 in the big box, New Hollywood comprises 3 movies from the big box but throw in 'The Lost Boys' and 'Gremlins'. Modern Blockbusters comprises 5 movies from the big box. Very odd.

100% with you on this one, the proposed set is a massive disappointment as I already own so many of the movies. The inclusion of a set of badges reminds me of the Beatles releases a few years ago when a button badge was a novelty, or the Pink Floyd 'Immersion' boxes with a bag or marbles. I will hold out for individual 4K releases to plug the gaps but, at present, I am not looking to spend £300 for another box with poor disc storage.

I'm on the same page with you. I am not getting this set. I have own some of the titles on 4K that are on that set. But some I haven't own that I'll probably get them separate. Like you said, I wish the box set would have just the films that are brand new on the 4K format. And we know some of the titles are getting a stand alone edition like The Exorcist for example. I also don't like the idea that Rio Bravo and East of Eden are exclusive. I don't know about here in the states that we are getting an individual release of those two films. But saying exclusive on UK had me worried if they are exclusive here in the states as well. So yeah I won't be purchasing the set.

Final Analysis, Other People’s Money, Richie Rich, Dennis the Manace, Burglar, Night Watch with Elizabeth Taylor and many Films are not even on Blu ray. Not on Warner Archive either. The Mask, Eyes Wide Shut ( some people claim that this film would not work on 4k. I don’t know if it is true ) Cobra need a 4k release.

Perhaps I am of the target audience for this set. I have only recently gotten into 4K and I have none of these titles on 4K. I probably won't get it though. The set in general seems to be something to put out because WB wants to have a set like Columbia does. But they didn't care enough to go all out on it, given the limited number of people purchasing it no matter what it contained. Putting in a lot more new material (or new movies on 4k) wouldn't drive up sales enough.

The only movie I have in physical format from this set is The Matrix. I hope this gets released in the US too. The sleeves are a problem. Universal did this with The Mummy Trilogy, and they always come scratched from sliding around in there. Terrible packaging.

You should’ve read the whole list…. I AM somewhat interested… but I still only have a VCR and DVD. I cycle out of stuff.(I buy tapes at Goodwill and Value Village) and watch em once or twice. Then when I’ve got like a theme [horror, Godzilla, Bela Lugosi etc] and sell em to the record stores. Then I’ve got another $40 to start the process again.

Agree with all of this. What are they thinking ? The target audience has to be niche of a niche of a niche. If this were any other branded box set, I could go along with it - maybe they want to shift some stock or extract additional income from packaging collectors (easy prey). But for a 100th anniversary set, this feels so cheap and lazy. WB have such a rich (and much wanted) catalog, it makes this feel like even more of a missed opportunity. We're into the 7th year of this format and so many titles are still missing - L.A. Confidential, The Color Purple, Amadeus, One flew over the cuckoos nest, Eyes Wide Shut, Barry Lyndon to name a few. If it's a money thing (WB not in a good place I hear), for the love of all that is decent, licence these out to boutiques.

In France where I live they do even more shit like this, like the Hitchcock volume 2 on 4k doesn’t exist here, we got the same as the volume 1 then one year later or smthing they released a more expensive 4k collection w/ the first 4 movies and all the ones added in volume 2 but without having a separate release for the people that bought the first volume so we have to spend 100 bucks to get these films and are punished for buying the first boxset These releases rly just discourage people from buying physical media

I'm also not sure who this set is for, but as a gift for someone who doesn't already have any or most of them, and is therefore not a collector, and doesn't care about special features, because another thing wrong with it, that you didn't mention, is they're all missing second discs or BDs, that have all the extras. There're only audio commentaries here. If I ever buy it on 50% sale, is only for the packaging, I love cardboard digibooks.

I've been looking at this boxset, and it seems like there's no special features on these. Only the movie on 4K and commentary tracks. Kind of a let down, in my opinion!!!

The mega box is sub-divided into three sections, which are each receiving separate releases. That might sound great if a person is only interested in one or two of the time periods covered, but it's not; the full set has ten films in each section, but the individual releases have only five (although they do have blu-ray alongside 4K, which the mega box doesn't). It's certainly not for me. I'll pick up the movies that interest me and leave it like that.

Warner's 100th box sets have been assembled with little thought except to dump product already readily available on the market, padding sets with MGM and RKO product, while omitting some truly iconic WB product like Driving Miss Daisy and Chariots of Fire. No thought in these sets at all. Very disappointing. Clearly, the 'brain trust' responsible for these knows NOTHING of the assets they manage, but is quick to push stuff in a gloss box with the most superficial consideration for artwork. And NO special features that actually celebrate the 100th of the studio. Cheaply done. Badly done. Waste of time and money.

My initial reaction was - "Well I have most of these already, and most of what I don't have I'm not interested in". All of them are acclaimed movies, even if not everything is to my taste, but a lot of them already have 4K releases or are getting individual 4K's so you can pick up what you actually want at your own speed. I find it very unlikely that someone is a big enough fan of a majority of these movies, and have the money to spend, and at the same time haven't already bought at least some, if not most of what they find the most interesting, to be very slim. This is all around a strange, unnecessary release. I can see this being sold at a reduced price within the year as folk avoid it like the plague. They really should have taken the chance to release all new 4K films, then it would’ve gone like hotcakes, I’d imagine. Combined with the lack of on-disc extras (that collectors often enjoy) this is such a big no-no. Who has £300 kicking about, burning a hole on their pocket at the moment? This lacks proper market research or knowledge of potential buyers to even have conceived of it. Very, very poor.

I agree with much of what you say. I skipped the columbia sets because they have movies I will never want. Not being a set for 1 or 2 movies . I cant stand the sleeves either. What also bothers me is that WB consistently does 4k restoration very well. Bright side I do think the set will come down in price in a big way in time.

I bought all 3 Columbia Classics sets so far, because those movies were all new to 4K and I did not own any of them in my collection at all (like on Blu Ray or whatnot). In contrast, I own many of the films in this set on 4K in my collection already, so it makes absolutely no sense for me to buy it. I thought that ALL the 7 new 4K films had confirmed standalone releases coming but I guess maybe I was mistaken? I really hope they DO get standalones

To me, this is a big let down ! On hearing about this boxset, I thought of all the great Warner Brothers films we could be getting new to the 4k format. How about the film that heralded the sound era "The Jazz Singer" (1927).The film that helped launch the 'American New Wave' "Bonnie And Clyde"(1967) and one of the key movies of the 1970's, "All The Presidents Men"(1976). Instead, we get mostly repackaged available 4ks, some of which are maybe good movies, but doubtful classics. Also for me, the emphasis of this collection should have been pre the 1980's. If this had been the case, I'd have probably took the plunge, but as it is, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

There is a smaller boxset which has Enter The Dragon , Goodfellas, Shawshank, Goonies and Training Day for £50 but no Exorcist. I think they didn't include the Exorcist on the smaller boxset on purpose so pple buy the larger one.

I understand them including mostly all classics in a celebration box set such as this. I mean, they won't put in some random movies that didn't make a dime or nobody cares about. It's a pretty inexpensive way for a new collector to grab a ton of great stuff. As far as the unreleased stuff ... pretty sure all will make their way as single releases.

The others you mentioned will all hit 4k later this year, the problem is Warner Bros have released many of these titles already the fact they will also have 3 separate 5 title sets, the fact it is releasing in September it’s likely to time The exorcist 4k standalone around the same time they may also reconsider Rio Bravo and East of Eden. Star Wars was the same packaging and so was Hitchcock and Universal monsters in the US. I agree it’s not for collectors I have 22 but I have ordered the four WB 4ks from this set as yet unreleased but announced. I’m not really surprised at this it’s mainly aimed at mainstream buyers, who will likely not have many WB 4K. My other thoughts some films aren’t original WB but are MGM films bought by WB The wizard of OZ and Singin in the rain come to mind. I think Amadeus and JFK are important omissions

Yes it's a con - I agree with what you said should be new films to 4k not re-issues - Why not films such as Adventures of Robin Hood ; The Last Samurai ; Sergeant York; Dial M for Murder; The Searchers; Cheyenne Autumn; The Outlaw Josey Wales ; the Life of Brian and lots lots more

I can't wait for Enter the dragon. I feel like there are too many popular WB films that they could have included such as Twister, Natural born killers, Three Kings, demolition man, body guard, lethal weapon and many more. You need popcorn films too to make a boxset attractive

Guaranteed this is only step one in the plan to further exploit The Exorcist. No doubt we will see all sorts of releases of the title in the future. Just need some patience - no way I would ever buy a 30 title box set.

I’m not buying this because it’s missing the Blu-Ray discs, which means it’s missing most of the special features. I don’t have most of these movies on 4K so I wouldn’t mind getting it, but I’d be paying a premium price for less content. I’m better off just getting the standalone releases, it’s a better value.

I own all three of the Columbia Classics sets, but this one is just stupid. Thankfully I'm in the U.S. & we probably won't see this particular set unless Criterion returns Citizen Kane to WB after less than two years. At least Sony's groups of six new-to-4K titles each are more justifiable than this mess where only three titles at most will be new to 4K when it's released. All three CC sets have contained one or two new-to-4K Best Picture winners (my top collecting priority); this one has NONE (Casablanca, Unforgiven, Argo, and even Elvis if it somehow wins next month are all already on 4K). 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I gave up my expectations when it comes to major studios putting out catalogue titles. Their releases just don't get the right treatment that they would from Criterion, Shout! Factory, or any other boutique label. I also feel scammed by the steel book trend. What's the point if there isn't gonna be any extras? *Cough* "BETTER OFF DEAD"

I seen this go up on amazon recently and I've already got 7 of the 30 so didn't think too much of it. I did just check and they've also listed three separate box sets with 5 of the 30 4ks for £50 each but I don't think they include the new as of yet unreleased 4k's so not great value if you're not new to 4k collecting, might be a good purchase for new 4k adopters.

It's a joke Warner Bros has already released a lot of these on 4k and like you I have a lot of them. So who is this set for? Sure as hell isn't for mass consumption. Think they are only doing it because Columbia and Sony have released sets that have sold . Like you have pointed out it is baffling to see what has been left out.

This year is the 50th Anniversary of The Exorcist so it’s most likely getting a standalone release.

I only have one of these on 4k. I’m sort of tempted. I only have a small library. I think I’d prefer to have the retail release clamshells instead of these lay flat packs though

I agree. These massive collections are seldom worth it IMO. The only one I have is the second volume of the Sony/Columbia 4K sets, and that is only 6 films. You sacrifice packaging, and usually extras when you have these massive box sets. Pass.

I’m still waiting on an it’s always fair weather 4K remaster, it’s such a classic gene Kelley film but hasn’t had a re release in a long time

Very frustrating. Taxi Driver and The Exorcist are two of my most desired 4K releases, and it looks like I'll have to wait years to get them because I don't want to spend extra money for all the other crap in the box sets.
