He was dead drunk. Throughout the day he drank, so what you perceive as a growl was the last remnant of a mellow baritone. He was great, especially when the Italian Mafia ruled Hollywood singers, but never a shaker. Now we ask what a shaker was. Good question. I want to answer your question. And I can answer some of it. But if you really want to know, watch the movie The Godfather. I know women don't like it. They don't like it because their stupid man loves it. But you know what? If you watch it a few times you can quote from it, like from Shakespeare. Then you touch his heart... now the rest is up to you.

Crosby: wears fancy clothes Sinatra: “you look like an unmade bed.”
@carltrotter76224 жыл бұрын
Crosby is breaking many style rules from wearing a frock coat to matching vest and trousers and contrasting jacket. It is also mentioned in the song that he is wearing ‘suspenders a belt and a vest’. What is meant here is that you should never wear a belt with a vest as it makes creases at the bottom (despite the fact that Sinatra is wearing one but I’d blame that on poor tailoring from the wardrobe department) and that instead you should wear suspenders, never together because they wear the same thing. Later on, as Crosby gets changed into various clown-ish outfits with over-the-top pieces matched together we can see these similar errors again but in a more extreme form.

@@michaelcondry1493 Agreed. In his early days Bing did work of great flexibility and vocal beauty. And even as he became more successful and less musically adventurous his range increased into true bass range without losing that marvelous tone. Where Frank and Dean shone were in their interpretive skills. Bing had the prettiest voice but Frank took you on a profound musical journey and Dean charmed you with every note and with that wicked vibrato of his. Bing could handle scat and difficult transitions flawlessly. Prime Sinatra, however, was unparalleled when it came to phrasing. Sinatra was such a confessional singer. He made the listener feel the heartache in every note. Bing was uncomfortable with such vulnerability, being a naturally more guarded, aloof personality. Bing was a simmer. Frank was a boil.

Bing won the academy award for best actor for a dramatic role and was nominated two more times. He was part of one of the most successful comedy duos in movie history and was one of the biggest selling artists of all time (more No. 1's than any other artist). His version of White Christmas was the highest selling single of all time (up until Elton Johns - Candle in the Wind re-vamp). He was in the Box Office Top 10, 15 years running and was No. 1 for five years (which only a small amount of actors can claim). He was still selling out concerts during his final years, I would say he was the complete package. He conquered every medium there was and usually lead the way for others to follow. I think he had the career that most other stars can only dream of. Both Dean and Frank idolised him and he loved and respected both of them. He apparently also enjoyed the charm and talent of working with Mr. Sammy Davis Jnr. who was also a superstar and legend.

Wonder Dog: - I too love Crosby even more than I love the other two (which is a considerable amount of love!), but I need to remind you that, when offering the fact that Crosby was part of one of the "most successful comedy duos", that Dean Martin was no slouch in this department: NOTHING was more important in the history of show business between the end of WWII and the coming of Presley, than was the phenomenon known as Martin & Lewis!

Arne was in no way understating Dean & Jerry's importance, both I admire greatly. I was merely observing that Bing not only led the way as a crooner, but was in fact an actor of immense popularity and talent as proven by his oscar nominations and box office clout (which I think can be overlooked). He was a fantastic dramatic actor and he was also an excellent light comic as was proven by the popularity of his many collaborations with Bob Hope. I don't believe that I was not acknowledging the importance of Martin (who I think is also an underrated actor - but a great actor) and Lewis which was an immense and important part of entertainment history. I was simply referencing some of Bing's major achievements that show he led the way not simply in the crooning department, but in all aspects of the entertainment field. I don't see how pointing out Bing's achievements in acting (especially his roles with Hope) have anything to do with Martin and Lewis's achievements, both duos were hugely popular and historically important, i was simply acknowledging Bing's role in one of these. Oh and it's WODGER DOG, not WONDER DOG, but thanks for the upgraded title. Cheers.

Tobias Brix Oh, there’s no argument that they were all wonderfully talented, but I have to agree with @debinooks, Dean always had that extra something. However you define it, as class, style, charisma or just plain old-fashioned charm, there’s no doubt that Dean had it in spades. As his producer on his TV show once said in an interview, it didn’t matter who was on stage with him, from Sinatra on down, your eyes were always automatically drawn to Dean. And it still shines through the screen in these old video clips, even more than 20 years after he passed on.

My grandfather was a Surgeon in the mid-late 60's, he used to always just wear business casual even on his off days, or simply just watching television he has on a polo shirt+beige shorts/pants+designer belt+ loafers combo; looking like those Italian guys you see at movies like The Sopranos or Goodfellas. Looking at him in today's context I'd think it's so inconvenient for him to be doing it every single day, where in fact, back in their times, it was something normal to do. Missing him already, will definitely adapt his style when I grow older. you truly either got or you haven't got style.

The problem is that well I cant speak for others but for myself dressing like that all the time would be detrimental to my pocketbook because id end up wrecking clothes like that and cheap suits often dont look as good so I wouldnt cheap out on one. My work is quite dusty and physical and i spend a lot of time in the outdoors. Get a $3 t shirt covered in dirt? no big deal but a suit like that? id be overprotective. Id still dress like that to go out though for things like dinner an outing. day or night on the town etc.
@kylevernon4 жыл бұрын
1. Suits aren’t cheap. 2. People back then didn’t waste money on useless luxuries. 3. They’re not comfortable for many people’s professions. 4. There’s no point wearing a suit unless it’s a formal event. 5. Clothes come and go nowadays. 6. Sneakers have become more of a symbol of wealth nowadays. 7. Fedoras have become very uncool, ties too much of a hassle, and shoes made to be as comfortable and colorful as possible. Put a baseball hat/SnapBack and a pair of tennis shoes on a suit and you would look ridiculous.
