His producer Greg Garrison was right when he said that it didn’t matter who was on the stage with him, after a couple of minutes your eyes are automatically drawn to Dean. Comedic timing was something Bing and Dean honed to a knife's edge by working as straight men for two of the wackiest comedians in history, Bob Hope in Bing's case and Jerry Lewis for Dino.

Scott Carroll There’s definitely something in what you say, but even Jerry in later years admitted that Dean always had an inbuilt comic timing and wonderful sense of humour right from when they first met. But working with Jerry for all those years must have helped Dean to perfect those skills, at least in terms of having to ‘think on his feet’ to in order to cope with Jerry’s crazy antics onstage!
