I haven't seen Christopher Reeve's Superman in decades, so thanks for this. It just reinforces how this is The Best Superman Of All Time. ( I've seen them all.) Superman flying over the Manhattan skyline with the Twin towers in the background. Superman saying "It was nothing, have a nice day!" after saving the village by capping the volcano. Lois Lane drawing the glasses and hat/coat on the Daily Planet photo of Superman that Jimmy Olsen took. Classic and timeless right down to the costume. (No padding needed. 😁) Even in real life he was a Great Super Man! R.I.P. (Still sorely missed...)

As much as I love the Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, they borrowed heavily from these first 3 films. The giving up their powers for love, and battling their dark side with the symbiote suit. It was a love letter to these movies, I think.

Just my opinion but I think Christopher Reeve was wrong for Superman IV given how brilliant he had been in the first 3 movies. In an alternate dimension, the ideals came true & we got an at peak Reeve in back to back releases of Superman III (Summer 1982) & Superman IV (Christmas 1983) both films produced & co-written by a Richard Donner who was never fired by the Salkinds with both films written & directed by Tom Manciewicz. These films could have introduced the likes of Christopher Walken as Brainiac, Frank Langella as Darkseid, William Hurtt as Metallo, Dudley Moore as Mr Mxyzptlk, Supergirl, Krypto, Lana Lang, introduced the larger DC universe & lead to a Justice League movie in 85 with Reeve playing Superman for a final time to link both franchises with a younger actor taking over from then on. I honestly believe the general public were disappointed in the III & IV we got because they wanted more from the movie & characters they were given in those films. I'll say this though, a passed-peak Reeve Superman is still incredible
