This looks great! But... that CO2 laser thing is going to bug me. If you ignore that it's basically impossible in that form factor (where are the batteries?!?) CO2 lasers have a distinct color (near IR), and if they look red to you, that means it's the last thing your ever going to see. Ever. That's not even getting into the old 'you can't see the beam of a laser' thing. Also, it's not good for cutting metal as anyone with a laser cutter can tell you. Now if it was a fiber laser, it would have that cool 'military gets tech first' vibe AND be able to cut metal and be whatever color (though actually still far IR). Ruby or YAG aren't more realistic but at least they aren't so common that 10% of the audience has probably worked with them. Power supply and laser size are still a problem, but eh. Anyway the red beam effect is sort of tired. Trust me that just leaving a trail of white hot metal looks cool enough.

I hate it when real-life concepts get put into films that the filmmakers get so far wrong that it interrupts the flight of fantasy for those in the know, and pressures their inner pedants into revealing themselves. I'd rather applaud the filmmakers for taking the extra effort to get something right, rather than feel torn about siding with the nit-pickers who just dampened my enjoyment of a movie. As a linguist, when the film Stargate came out (before the TV series spin-off), and a linguist got to be the hero. A HUGE leap of faith was required to believe that James Spader's character could have a spoken knowledge of Ancient Egyptian... but there's JUST enough theoretical grounding, and accounting for him being a genius, that I was prepared to allow it. So, he might be able to speak (with GREAT difficulty) to Ancient Egyptians about everyday things contemporary to their lives. But then, the alien baddie, Ra, talks about "harnessing the power of the ATOM" - a word and concept WELL beyond the ken of that civilisation - and the spell was broken, for me. If you don't explain or describe the biggest leaps you're taking, as a filmmaker, you won't cause members of your audience to feel resentful for being educated.
