In the 18th century, these deep-voiced female singers were often placed in the shade by the extravagant presence and talents of castrato singers like Farinelli, Senesino, Carestini, and Caffarelli. However, as Nathalie points out, "The great opera composers of the early 18th century saw the female contralto as the equal of the male castrato."

Why is everybody ignoring the fact that her vowels are incredibly woofy and muddled? Every vowel is too dark, and she changes the vowels depending on pitch, brightening at the top and swallowing everything in her low register.
