I personally think we are entering a long-lasting bear market since the FED has pumped so much money into the economy, combined with lower interest rates (which basically forced big investors to invest in stocks as bonds/cash generated no returns, sometimes even paying negative rates on cash accounts) caused all stocks to trade at a significantly higher valuation. Now with interest rates rising, making cash and bonds attractive, I don't see a reason that this huge amount of capital is coming back into equity markets anytime soon.

Be careful with “this time is different.” It never is different in general but it always is different is specificity. This is because history never repeats but it always rhymes, which is why we study the past to figure out the future. The key is that too often people do not see the similarities because they are focused so much on the differences, leading them to make bad decisions.
@MD-gk4uh
@MD-gk4uh 2 жыл бұрын
Too many times people are typing comments and forget to make a point. History is written by the victor and its narrative made to fit the time and rulers. We are not repeating history cause we don't know the truth. We are merely rewriting the narrative of those in power each time and those are mostly the same throughout history. I can tell the "American Story" without telling a lie jet make it look like nazi empire. We distort and omit the facts till the ruling class have the desired effect on the population. Keep your history book from 50 years ago and read it again 50 years from now. Too bad that just as this sort of insight became possible they will make "knowledge" digital "only" so they can morph it along the way without anyone noticing. I ones belived western history was different and scientific....how wrong i was.

Buying the dip is one way but not a requirement. You can also hold what you have without increasing position sizes. You can still catch the recovery with existing amounts. Once you're all bought up, sit tight. Make sure you have even safety money to tide you through tough times, pay bills, etc., and the rest could be a waiting game, who knows.

buying the dip is what corporate ceo's tell investors to do in order to keep their wealth up by keeping the stock price up. Everybody shouldn't own the same 15 stocks making billionaires ultra rich. 100% agree with you Graham. If you are sitting on cash right now, pump as much of it into the market as you feel comfortable. 8.3% inflation is eating cash up, and even though we likely haven't seen the bottom of the market yet, you never know when the bottom hits. We're already down into Bear territory, so as I see it, everything is just on sale!! My greatest returns have been from holding on to sizeable amounts of cash and dumping that in when there is a recession or downturn.

Everything Graham said is true, however, it would be rare for someone to be sitting on a pile of cash because the stock market was so good during 2021 that only a fool would have been sitting on a pile of cash. The trick is knowing when to get out, which is even more difficult than knowing when to get in.

i guess call me a fool because i've been sitting on income for the past two years and saving to purchase a home in cash for peace of mind as i value lifestyle over a few percentage in margin. 425k cash looking better and better by the day. might just wait it out until another Q4 and get a nice discount on a nice home paid in full. pick a strategy you believe in and stick with it folks, so many of my friends have been riding this emotional roller coaster and are in shambles now. meanwhile you could have had the peace of mind for the past two years, invest in yourself, and still be up.... it all comes back to basic principles

If you put some money from ever paycheck into the market automatically it takes care of itself You automatically buy fewer shares with the same money when the prices are high. You automatically buy more shares with the same money when the price is low. That my friend is dollar cost averaging.

I used to feel frustrated by this when I first started. I began flipping thrift store items on eBay and make around $1200 a month avg profit. Iset that money aside for a few months and waited for a crash. When a crash arrived I had like $7500 and used that to buy. Now I dca every week and still sell on eBay. This crash I’ve bought $5500 and still have $4500 waiting to see if it drops lower. There’s money out there, you just have to be resourceful and make it happen. ✌🏽

Yeah, its the same message that Graham delivers in different ways, and the same message that has worked for decades. Stay in the market, have the bulk of your money in index funds/ETF’s , and you will do just fine over long time periods. Don’t try to get rich quickly, slow and steady wins the day.

@@Southeastasiantraveler you can also win the day trading, and often much faster. Trading is a derivative of investing. You will also make significantly more money pulling out at peaks and buying at bottoms. I don’t know why that is taboo.

Why does everyone think owning things makes you happy? Being liberated from the burden of junk and stuff is true freedom
@anthonylopez9900

In general, I get it, however, owning your own home I would not call "junk" or a burden. The sleazy politicians and super-rich want you to believe renting a room to live out of, and that room you would call home is going to make you happy! "You will own nothing and be happy", yeah right! Someone or company or government will own EVERYTHING. You will not be able to own your own piece of property that you can share with your children and family yet the "people" you pay your rent to will be living it up in their mansions, I don't think so!
