I personally think we are entering a long-lasting bear market since the FED has pumped so much money into the economy, combined with lower interest rates (which basically forced big investors to invest in stocks as bonds/cash generated no returns, sometimes even paying negative rates on cash accounts) caused all stocks to trade at a significantly higher valuation. Now with interest rates rising, making cash and bonds attractive, I don't see a reason that this huge amount of capital is coming back into equity markets anytime soon.

Be careful with “this time is different.” It never is different in general but it always is different is specificity. This is because history never repeats but it always rhymes, which is why we study the past to figure out the future. The key is that too often people do not see the similarities because they are focused so much on the differences, leading them to make bad decisions.
@MD-gk4uh2 жыл бұрын
Too many times people are typing comments and forget to make a point. History is written by the victor and its narrative made to fit the time and rulers. We are not repeating history cause we don't know the truth. We are merely rewriting the narrative of those in power each time and those are mostly the same throughout history. I can tell the "American Story" without telling a lie jet make it look like nazi empire. We distort and omit the facts till the ruling class have the desired effect on the population. Keep your history book from 50 years ago and read it again 50 years from now. Too bad that just as this sort of insight became possible they will make "knowledge" digital "only" so they can morph it along the way without anyone noticing. I ones belived western history was different and scientific....how wrong i was.

Yeah, its the same message that Graham delivers in different ways, and the same message that has worked for decades. Stay in the market, have the bulk of your money in index funds/ETF’s , and you will do just fine over long time periods. Don’t try to get rich quickly, slow and steady wins the day.

@@Southeastasiantraveler you can also win the day trading, and often much faster. Trading is a derivative of investing. You will also make significantly more money pulling out at peaks and buying at bottoms. I don’t know why that is taboo.

@@TheRealDyscyples Typically you won't, most of the time dollar cost averaging yields higher returns than trying to time the market.

I have recently started the investing using the strategy you mention and really struggled with the urge to cash out during recent times. I am staying strong, trusting the process and hoping that in 10 years I can find this comment and thank not only you for the advice but also thanks myself for listening 👍🏼 Your welcome future me ✌🏼

Now is a terrible time to cash out! If you don't need the money, and you shouldn't if you've invested it, then leave it alone! I feel you, though, it's painful to see your portfolio value just continue to drop, but it will come back up. It's ONLY a loss if you cash out!

Why does everyone think owning things makes you happy? Being liberated from the burden of junk and stuff is true freedom
@anthonylopez99002 жыл бұрын
In general, I get it, however, owning your own home I would not call "junk" or a burden. The sleazy politicians and super-rich want you to believe renting a room to live out of, and that room you would call home is going to make you happy! "You will own nothing and be happy", yeah right! Someone or company or government will own EVERYTHING. You will not be able to own your own piece of property that you can share with your children and family yet the "people" you pay your rent to will be living it up in their mansions, I don't think so!

So true, I e been traveling for 11years with two small suitcases. Everything I own fits in them

I think by “owning things” it was meant for owning stocks & real estate not junk. I could be wrong but that’s what I gathered. A lot of millennials rent instead of own real estate and don’t invest their money

How is that an affordability relief. If principle price declines at the cost of rising rates, that doesn't increase your purchasing ability
