Milwaukee heated jacket, it sounds like a good idea, right? Jackets keep you warm, Milwaukee tools are awesome, a battery powered heated jacket should be amazing! Yeah, well that's what I thought too and was surprised at how much I didn't like the jacket. It's not all bad, but overall it wasn't the warm heated experience I was envisioning and combined with the price I can't really recommend it.
If you want to be disappointed and waste copious amounts of money, here’s the jacket I bought
geni.us/GtSox (Amazon)
Here’s what I should have bought
geni.us/jvAyO (Amazon)
Because people will ask about that weird snowblower shovel thingy, here’s what it is
geni.us/0gLJ (Amazon)
This mini chainsaw rips and I love it

I have used the Milwaukee Hoodie ( not this jacket) for the last 5 years. It is the single best, most useful garment I have ever owned. I use it daily from October - April. In the colder months I wear a jacket over it which hugely increases the thermal efficiency. I really love it and highly recommend it.

You are the second person to recommend the hoodie, looks like I’m buying one. Same idea though as in the video: get that heating element close to your body. Just having an outerwear jacket doesn’t cut it.

@suburbanacreage My first hoodie lasted 4 years before an internal connection broke leaving only one chest heating element working. I washed and tumble dried it about 25 times over that time. It was after a wash/dry cycle it stopped working. By then the fabric was showing it's age in places. I use it mainly for my daily walks where I need extra heat in the beginning until I build up my core temperature, then turn it down or off.

@@suburbanacreage We are not convincing ourselves of anything. Sure it has flaws but is a really nice warm jacket even if it didn't have a battery option. Heated gear is a fairly new thing and its still being perfected. I can use the m12 battery fine but I also ordered a battery pack that is specifically designed for m12 heated gear that gives me 7 to 8 hours on high and its a battery bank style so its really not much bigger and if anything its thinner. I have a heated vest in another brand of heated gear and I chose the jacket as I don't want to have the battery underneath all my layers as I change over the day as the temps change and I feel this jacket holds the heat in really well. An oldie but a goodie! A flat battery pack would improve the usability but then they wouldn’t be interchangeable with the tools. I've bought 4 as I thought they were a good idea and worked well. I 1st had issues with the wiring inside the jacket shorting (quiet common. I fixed it myself as Milwaukee service told me it was landfill and wouldn't fix it. Happened on my hoodie also. Bare wires at the button. Just waiting to short. Returned the last one as it didnt heat properly. The worse thing is I have cooked both adapter/chargers in the jackets as this happens when it shorts costing 119 aud each whichbis 50% of the jacket price.. Really really poor quality and I don't use these for extreme work. Very unhappy.

Guy, you just said with only a T shirt on under it, you could feel the warmth. The you said with extra layers your skin didn't feel the warmth of the heaters. I think the point of the jacket is you don't wear a lot under it, so the heat coils are closer to your skin. Ever try to put something over it?
@suburbanacreage

That’s kinda my point. During the winter I’m usually not just wearing a t shirt around, I basically live in a hoodie Sept - April. But thicker layers make the jacket less effective. To feel the heat the most, shirtless would be the best option. But as stated, that’s not really how people use winter jackets.

I never really even notice the battery in the pocket unless it just happens to get between my back and my seat. Sometimes this jacket alone is so warm I don't even use the heat. And I work outdoors, so when it's cold enough to need the heater, it's VERY nice to have it, and it runs for hours on high. And it's a milwaukee battery, so put it on the charger and it's full charged in like 10 mins.

I love my jacket. The bulk of the Battery does suck. And like you say you don't notice the heat much with a hood sweater on. I tighted up some strap so it's a tight fit around my waist and that seemed to help. It blocks the wind very well I hardly even need to turn it out. When I do have it on its below 0 and I have coveralls on so I put those on over the jacket so it presses the jacket closer to me and then when I turn the heat on I definitely feel it.

They guy is wearing this jacket with nothing on top of it. What did you think is going to happen? I live in northern Alberta where it is regularly -30 C and sometimes -40 C and with the wind chill factor it can feel as cold as -60C. I wear my heated in Milwaukee jacket with a winter coat over top of it. It is an absolute life saver. It keeps me toasty warm, even hot when the weather is absolutely awful outside. If you don't put something over top of this jacket, of course all the heat is going to simply escape. I am middle aged now and really fell the cold but I need to get work done. This jacket is wonderful. Furthermore, if you put a heavy winter coat on top of this jacket, it will also keep the battery warm too which will make it last longer. If you are cold in winter and/or have to outside for long periods of time, this jacket is for you. You can even get adapters and plug it into a 12 volt outlet on your quad, motorcycle or snowmobile and be outside for hours. if you are going to be snowmobiling miles from nowhere, hope for the best but prepare for the worst of course. Dress appropriately so you can stay warm even if this jacket fails, but I don't think it will.

My wife and i bought one each for our winter motorbike trips. I found that on the low setting it stops the chill getting through to my body so am pretty happy with it. We wear our bike jackets over the top though so that would press it against oyr bodies i suppose. Its the only heated jacket ive ever owned though so ive nothing to compare it too. We must've got them on special because we only paid $220 Australian and that included an extra battery. Great review though mate. I probably wouldn't have got it if id watched it beforehand. Oh well. There is a mod so that you can use a m18 battery instead of the triangle 12 volt. Plus you can get extended capacity or a high output depending on your needs. Definitely think the m18 battery lays better.plus alot more run time.

@JonCross1269 I'm sure the aftermarket makes something since they make M-series batteries, but there is an M18 power pack adapter, sold by Milwaukee, that replaces the M12 adapter that these jackets come with. I haven't used one yet, but I keep thinking about getting one. With a big M18 battery, the jacket could run on high all night and day. I usually leave mine on low or on medium, but I'd probably default to medium if I were able to use a bigger battery. On a side note, I kind of miss the button changing between red, blue, and white. The blue looks really cool, and the white looks really nice too, except the white is very bright. It was nice to be able to glance down and immediately be able to tell what setting it is on.

I have both a vest and a jacket. The vest is a smarter system because its close to the base layer. The jacket as a stand-alone is pretty decent, and the battery is just a plus. It probably makes sense if you have a bunch of m12s lying around, but not so much as a first-time heated gear owner. The pack is a bit uncomfortable, but usually only driving. Its location is probably the best. Its not directly on your back, or in the front. You can always push it out of the way. There are generic square batteries that will fit the jacket flatter. That however will defeat the convenience of having so many batteries. btw, All heated jackets work by heating coils, so it really comes down to fit.

If they had made another battery pack specifically for the clothing, you'd complain about having to buy more batteries just for that. I could go all day with an M12 battery in my pocket without being inconvenienced by the slight bulk it adds. You can't expect a single piece of clothing to keep you as warm as if you were tucked up in bed, that's not how thermal layering works. But if it can keep the cold at bay until I am moving around enough to warm up naturally and prevent me from cooling down too much in the idle times in between, it is doing a good job.

My gf got me a Soleilwear vest from Amazon and that thing helps immensely when I sit in the tree stand. It has 4 heating segments in the back at the kidney area and it really helps. I think these heating elements need to be pressed against the body to be effective so base layers and vests are where it’s at. I use the hoody under multiple hoodies for insulation. I don’t notice the battery anymore, it’s a pain to change it since it’s my base layer, but I can deal with that if it means warmth. My only complaint is the battery on high only last about an hour. On low, it’s about 4 hours. I bought multiple Chinese batteries, but I recommend buying Milwaukee brand. The Chinese batteries don’t like the Milwaukee charger and tend to do the flashing show which means bad battery. I just pull battery off and plug back in and it charges. The Chinese batteries are finicky, but im not complaining. I got 8 for about $70. I’d only have 2 Milwaukee brand for that price.

Work in a -20F freezer all day for work and it burns me up. Have to turn the heat down once my body heat contributes. It’s nice as hell when it’s cranked up all the way at 5am and im still half asleep. It eliminated layers upon layers and thus, increased mobility. I see your point about the battery. I would fit into a large in a regular jacket that’s fitted the same way as the Axis. I went with the XL for the ability to add more layers if it wasn’t warm enough. All that extra room makes the battery less noticeable.
