I was feeding laying pellets sold by a company "Keystone". My hens stopped laying. Went to a local mill and bought their laying mash. I had one egg the next day. Within 9 days, I was getting two dozen a week. I am a tinfoil hat person at this point. Thanks, Doug, for staying on top of the problem.

They only lay so many in a lifetime. I hope you plan on making them meat birds after they slow or stop producing in a few years. It's a natural process and it let's their bodies recoup for spring laying. If your in a starvation situation by all means get them girls a laying! Lol but they only lay so many. As someone else said they are not a endless little egg factory. My grandmother raised hens. I was at her house alot and she explained it to me then. Love them and they will give. Blessings and good luck. Ps they are your chicken you can do as you wish. I just thought you should know before they stop laying in 2-3years when you can get 5-7 years given good health and proper diet.... proper seasonal rest. Joy to you and your family.

The reason is the culling of millions of chickens under the guise of them suddenly having the "avian flu". Now they are going after the backyard chickens as more people are raising their own. Once a company goes public, the WEF sends their minions, mainly Vanguard, BlackRock and State Street, to buy millions in stock. When that happens, the owners are no longer in control of their company. They take marching orders from the WEF, or suffer the consequences.

The reason eggs are more expensive is three things. One chicken feed prices are up two. There was some avian flu that killed a lot of chickens. Therefore, let's chickens, less eggs and three the price of meat is up so people are eating more eggs than they usually did. That is why the price of eggs is up.

I haven't found this to be true at all. Spent a wad of money on various seeds, grains, etc, and tried making my own feed. My chickens only ate part of the feed, kicking the rest onto the ground. Huge waste. The parts they ate wasn't enough nutrients so they took forever to refeather after a molt, and it led to lost weight. I get a 40lb bag of layer pellets from Rural King for $20 vs the over $100 I spent on 40 and 50lb bags of feed components. The layer feed lasts longer with less wastage, in my experience. I tried it but am back to good feed. My chickens feathered out faster and some have started laying again. As a note, my chickens ignored most of the homemade feed components, favoring wheat berries and black sunflower seeds. All the rest was waste.

It would be normal for your birds to stop laying the last few months and just now start laying. It depends on the individual hen but on average they stop laying when the days tip under 12 hours long and start laying again when they tip over 12 hours. They are light activated. Some folks even put lights on their birds through the winter so they don't stop laying. I found that hard on the birds and disruptive to their natural cycle. If you were using organic feed from a local farm I'd be tempted to see if they would tell you what ingredients they use and where they source them. Watch out for GMO's even in organic!

Congrats on hitting 1 million subscribers! This video showed up exactly when I needed it. Just ordered my first 15 chicks to be delivered in April! I'll be starting on the coop and the brooder next month. Also planting 20+ fruit trees, blue berries and grapes. Everything is so new to me! Thank the good Lord for people like you that teach and encourage us! Much love Doug and Stacy.

Congratulations on 1 million!! We have had the same issue with that feed. We also feed table scraps, fruit and vegetables. We recently found a local feed store we will be purchasing from. Thank you for the information on how to make our own. That may be what we do from now on. Keep up the great work!

My grandma and grandpa’s chickens were foragers and got table scraps. I’m 66 and my grandparents were truly off-grid up until I was around 12 years old, in the hills of Tennessee. After that they finally got a bathroom and running water. They finally got propane instead of using the heat/cook stove. They DID get electricity sooner due to the TVA building Dale Hollow dam.
