The problem with this pro-family, pro-kids arguments are that they ignore the fact that there are people who should absolutely not be parents.
@missdtattoodesigns3597
@missdtattoodesigns3597 Жыл бұрын
And many other facts, but those do not support the argument so they won’t be brought up. There’s a lot of parental regret (and health issues post birth) that almost never get mentioned - which may be the strongest dealbreaker for reproducing. The pro argument always seems very self serving (no wonder it’s not always fulfilling. You’re not giving back to the world, you want to take from it to sustain your offspring).

But having children is good for the economic growth and for rich people’s investment portfolio. The more future young working class people, the more consumers, the higher our stock portfolio. Stock value goes up when population goes up. 😏So really, everyone should have kids, even poor people. Because it's good for rich people.

True joy is something only Jesus Christ can give a person. As He said: "Come to me all you heavy laden and I will give you rest". Everything else is an illusion. Everything passes, God's love remains no matter what. Writing this at 3 o'clock after my toddler woke me up at 1 am 😀 Still thankful that she is in our lives. All glory to Jesus!

Yup, also, poorer families might have more unhappiness due to overwork and childcare costs. Regretting their poor kid's poverty future if it resembles the parent's own poverty lifestyle. Might be better happiness with "children-responsability" for more financial stable or prosperous households.

The portrayal of the ‘perfect family’ are more likely a facade. Most people thought my family (adulthood not childhood) was like the Cosby’s. Those people were shocked when we got a divorced. It is easy to smile through pain.

It really shows that happiness has nothing to do with any of these things. People are happy because they DECIDE to be happy. That's it. Life is hard all around if we don't decide to be happy no matter what. Someone choosing children or not are obviously already in a position where they could decide to be happy no matter what life brings.
@rojo1124

There are no "perfect families". Married people who marry for the right reasons are usually happy because they choose to be. The stats showed people are happier when they are not alone and feel they serve a purpose. That's understandable.

how would oyu know if someone is "miserable". people have highs and lows throughout life? We can't just stamp the description"miserable" on them in stone. Happiness is a ridiculous standard to strive for. Sacrifice is what it's all about. It's built into the system. When you sacrifice for your children, for your family... you get a sense of fulfillment that is beyond "happiness". It's much more solid and grounded than the fleeting feeling of happiness.

You know what would make a childless woman more depressed? Constant being guilt tripped and being told or even convinced they failed as a woman, or that they are worth less, bc they don't have kids.
@jessebarnes1963
@jessebarnes1963 2 ай бұрын
Yes, this is the argument that is applied to everything by the left. It’s always assumed to be a lack of social acceptance that is the cause of the unhappiness of people who make “non-traditional” choices; it’s never that there’s anything actually wrong with the choices themselves. For instance, it’s all lack of acceptance that makes trans people unhappy; there’s nothing inherently dysfunctional about transgenderism or the psychology of the person who is drawn to it. I’m certainly not saying that everyone needs to have kids, but is it not possible that women who remain childless and experience emotional turmoil do so because they find that they’ve chosen to avoid the thing that most people actually find to be the most meaningful thing about their entire lives? Being childless by choice has been normalized to a ridiculous degree in our society. If people are still feeling bad about it, what makes you think that it’s social pressure or judgement that is the cause and not the decision itself?

I’ve worked in different convalescent homes and senior living facilities. Believe me, there’s a difference between those who were good parents, those who’s didn’t have children, and those who were awful parents. Sometimes their child had to put them in a home because they just couldn’t take care of them. They didn’t have the strength to lift them up when they would fall because they themselves were getting older. They couldn’t keep up with their appointments and medications. But they show up, take care of them as much as possible and visit them. Then you have the childish people who haven’t had anyone visit in years. Lastly, you have those who were awful and abusive. Everyone has disowned them.

people don't know what they want to eat tomorrow and you think they'd know what decisions to make that will last for the rest of their lives? Your advice of "do what you want" is void because most people will be scared to do something like having children or marrying without guidance or advice to do it. And that's why we are seeing a societal collapse. You don't need to want to have kids in order to have them. People did it because they were prone to by their own instincts and in the end it proved one of the most fulfilling things they could do in life. Why is it that I've never seen parents say "if I could I wouldn't have my children". Never once have I seen any parents utter these words. Yet I've met countless of old people (mainly women) that heavily regret not having children. So yes have kids because everyone else is doing that. Have kids because that's what God wants you to do. Have kids to propagate our society. Have kids because your biology is pushing you to do it. But finding the meaning in having kids will definitely vary and will not be the same as most people.

A lot of men want women to want kids, because then it makes men needed. Men are losing their power in the relationship dynamic. Women don't really need men financially anymore, so the only card left is the baby card. I can count on one hand the number of men I know that genuinely enjoy parenting. They like the idea of fathering a child and passing on their genes, but the actual parenting stuff nah they would rather be at work. Most men take up more hours at work after having a baby specifically to spend less time with the baby (but will tell the wife it's to "provide" more financially, even if the wife is begging the husband to be home more). I know this because my husband tells me what his male coworkers with kids tell him. They all become workaholics when their kid is very young, because even working in the coal mine is a walk in the park compared to parenting a child. The man in the video has never made one video about his kids, or about how much he loves them. It's all just about politics. The only time they are mentioned is now when he is trying to convince women to have kids, which is very disingenuous. His daughter is his "favorite person in the world", and yet no mention of her ever, except now when it suits his argument. Very sneaky. I'm not sure this is the type of unbiased news-reporting that should be given a large platform. The studies show that childless unmarried women live longer, so that settles the argument. Things like "asking people if they're happy" is full of errors. Trying to scare women into having kids because otherwise they will grow to be a lonely old spinster is disgusting. He's a man. Not a woman. Whether childless women are happy or unhappy shouldn't concern him. He should instead make a video about how men should want to have kids - not women. But he won't, because he's talking out of his ass.

Women are not a monolith. What makes one woman happy will not do the same for another. Some women want to be mothers, and they will be happier if they have children. Others, like myself, do not, and will be happier without children. Women are individual people with different wants and desires.

Nuance is so important in the conversation. I’m 23 and didn’t want kids when I was younger bc 1. I was myself a child and 2. I was struggling with mental health issues from my own childhood. Now that I am where I am, my biggest dream in life is to have children, a family. I’ve always been a nurturing person and I would gladly take the responsibility of raising good humans to do good things. That’s to say not everyone is cut out for that. But lord the shaming from other women regardless of what you want is pretty gross. Leave childless women alone and leave mothers/mothers-to-be alone. Let people have their peace.

The difference I noticed between men and women is that men talk about marriage as a way of getting more things, help, kids, etc, for himself by having this relationship. Women talk about marriage as losing things like their health, beauty, time, dreams, and the overall feeling of being used when in a relationship. I once had a divorced male landlord who was looking for a new wife. The primary reason was that she could "help" take care of his aged mom.

@@adventskalender04 A woman who believes she has to become a millionnaire before having children will waste her best years in her career and won't find a suitable partner. You don't need to be rich to have kids. Many children who grew up in poor families became rich and famous. The best option for a woman is to chose wisely a nice guy who can provide when she is still young. Feminism taught you that you didn't need a man to provide, and many of those who believed this bullshit were punished by mother nature. It's much harder to find a good man once you reach 32 or 33, and it's even harder if you are a boss lady. My best advice is to have a family before 30, and make sure that you don't waste your time with chads, players and bad boys, which is a receipe for disaster.

People are suddenly talking about these issues because birth rates are dropping below replacement in all developed nations. Yes, we still have tons of people. But after a long period of continued, unprecedented growth in human population, the trend of it shrinking is economically and militarily not a good thing. I’m sure the population will readjust in time, and not be an inverted pyramid like we see today, but getting to that point is going to be very painful. It may even lead to such a low population in some countries (like South Korea) that they get taken over by another country. Why focus on women? Because women can give birth to humans, and men cannot. Our biology is, in our perception, unfair. This is not to say that we all need to pump out a ton of kids. Really, in the US, we should be focusing on keeping the birth rate stable. I believe it’s about 1.6 kids per woman currently. If replacement is 2.1 kids per woman, we could have a fairly steady descent into a new, stabilized general population number.

I have never regretted my decision and cannot imagine how I would feel if I had children and seeing what kind of a future lies ahead of them. The world was bad when I was a child and has gotten extremely worse. I could'nt have imagined the state we are in right now. So my reasons have nothing to do with my happiness, the lack of joy or fulfillment or dying alone. My considerations were the future of my unborn children and the fact I could never give them a good qualtiy of life in the world we live in. People often say that those who choose not to have children are selfish. But it seems to me that those who have children _always_ talk in terms of their own selfish gains. Having kids makes _me_ a better person. Makes _me_ feel fulfilled. Keeps _me_ from being lonely in my old age. Gives _me_ empathy. Makes _me_ a better leader. I think those who choose _not_ to have children are the least selfish people on the planet. Their reasons are often, I don't think I'd be a good parent. I don't think I have the patience that kids need. I don't think I could give kids what they need financially or time wise. I don't want to bring children into this chaotic world. Always considering the welfare of the child. How ironic.
@msdavisnight9773
@msdavisnight9773 Жыл бұрын
I see your point but I would counter with this: all those parents that say they feel fulfilled, like they are a better person, not lonely in old age, more empathetic and a better leader also struggled with the ideas you describe as those choosing not to have children are saying. As a soon to be first time mom, I am regularly working through my worries about not being the best parent, having enough patience, not being able to provide everything they need and the dangers of the world. However, I don't let that stop me because I have decided I will do my best to make it work, no matter what the world or my own emotions throw at me. There is always a reason not to do something. How can any of us attempt to make the world a better place for future generations if we're too afraid to take risks. Many people who don't have children for the reasons you describe are letting the fact that they and the world will never be perfect stop them from even trying to do something good. The parents that always talk about what they got out of the experience of parenthood are focusing on the good parts not the bad parts because they recognize that the bad parts don't even compare to how wonderful the good parts are. It doesn't mean they don't have insecurites or worries, they have just decided not to let them rule their outlook.

I divorced my rapist after 2 years. I hooked up and married a narcissistic sociopath. I didn’t know any better. I got pregnant. My narcissistic sociopath husband demanded I have an abortion . He drove me to the clinic but wouldn’t go in with me. I was 20 years old. I had no family to lean on and help me. He impregnated me 2 more times. I refused to have another abortion. So I had a son, then he impregnated me again , at the 7th month of pregnancy, he told me he didn’t know how he felt about me. That baby , a girl , was born 2 months later . She had cancer, a Wilms tumor in her left kidney. Children’s Hospital removed her left kidney . The full responsibility of raising these children was MINE. He was a horrible husband . He was a horrible father. But boy oh boy he was a man that knew how to make money. We had money, but I didn’t have a loving husband , they didn’t have a loving father. I stayed with that man to keep a roof over my children’s head, clothes on their back , and food in their bellies. I divorced him when I was 40. We had money and he had a better lawyer. I’m now 70. I live in poverty . He is rich financially. I don’t see my children. They see the absentee father that has money. They have forsaken me over a father that never wanted them. I didn’t want children but I loved them, raised them, sacrificed for them and was always there for them. If I had to do it over again, I would never have married the rapist. I would have put my child up for adoption. And gone on for higher education and lived a happier life . Children are highly overrated.

Im in my late 40s. No kids. No partner. Happy and feilding phone calls from my peers going through divorce and kid drama from my expat home in Mexico. They are devastated and in debt and I feel guilty telling them about my life because I am happy and my problems are definitely less devastating. I still have problems of course just not so many people involved. Im happy but I still wouldn't deter someone from having a family if they want it. My friends made bad partner choices if I had to point to the main problem. They didn't know themselves and they got in the situations turning blind eyes to the issues...theirs and the person they got involved with. I'll never regret my decision but healthy families are great and I respect people who want that too. Don't get sucked into others definition of happiness. Know yourself. Choose wisely. Understand what you're getting into. Kids need all of you. It's a noble sacrifice but a tough one and I have mad respect for the people who do it and take that seriously. Just for sure don't let society/others dictate your choice.

It's true, things that matter a great deal can also hurt the most when things go sour. If you don't have anything significant, then the pain is much less intense. But a life with shallow depths and zero pain, is that a meaningful life? Let's say you think deeply about life, you have accumulated wisdom because you have time on your hand, then what? It really depends. With my first, I was single and ill-prepared. With my second, I was partnered, but things fell apart when our child was a toddler. There's a lot more to my story, but ultimately, I think I would have been better off childless. I had no business having kids that I wasn't emotionally and mentally prepared to handle. One is grown and our relationship is ok. The other is a teenager and wants nothing to do with me. I wish I could have been a better mother, but we learn by watching our own parents, and in my case, they were a dumpster fire. The best thing I can hope for is forgiveness and another chance to be a mother to them, because we're never too old to need our parents. I'm taking steps to increase my happiness, but it's never easy. Shout out to all the good moms and dads out there who knew early on how to take on the daunting challenge of parenthood and navigated it successfully.

I unfortunately, have never been financially stable enough to support a family. I thought I was being smart. People tend to assume I am a liberal or a feminist because I don't have kids, but I'm not. We have had dogs for most of our marriage and they bring us joy. We are happy to be "childfree". The word "childless" denotes that we are missing something in life. How can you "miss" something you never had? Most women I know who have kids wonder what it would be like to not have their children given all the complications, financial and otherwise. I have been told I am "lucky" in not having kids. I don't feel it is luck. Rather, it is a CHOICE to wish to parent. We chose not to be parents. If that makes us selfish, then that's a judgement call on others.

Now they are 23 and 25 and for me to have gone through seeing them grow up from newborn to adult is very fulfilling On top of that I was a Montessori kindergarten teacher and nanny and that in itself is very fulfilling So yes you can be childless and still be happy. I know some women who have children and are as miserable as they come

At 37yr old I regret not meeting my wife earlier in life. We have a baby daughter. She regrets not having her earlier. Life is sort. She's 33yr old, I'm not rushing her but if she ever says something about a second child... I'm not wasting time. Did I say, life is short?

@@therealtijuanamanI'm 62, never had kids and I thank gf every day. And no, I'm not lonely. I have many people around me that love me. Having children doesn't guarantee they will be there when you get older.

I think women can be happy and childless but generally speaking I think women are generally happier when they have kids. I'm at the age where most women my age can't have any children anymore. Seeing both the women that have kids and women with no kids there is a significantly difference in apparent happiness levels.
