Warp 1:06-1:10 is the smoothest and best Warp effect ever both including Movie & Program

The motion picture had the best warp effect.
@KenVic028 жыл бұрын
Agreed. When I saw that movie in the theater in 1979, I thought the wap effect was the coolest thing. It got lamer with each movie and the cheesier sound effects. TNG is always good especially in "Where No One Has Gone Before" (first or second season) with a side view of the Enterprise stretching out.
@djfoord8 жыл бұрын
TNG had a nice effect, I always loved the bang and flash it made when it would make the jump. Even though the idea of it making a sound is a bit silly. But then so is all sound in space, but scifiction i would be pretty dull without it.
@RailsOfTheSouthProductions6 жыл бұрын
I give it second. Personally in terms of noise, Khan had it best
@alucard6242 жыл бұрын
@Neb6 Star Trek II was the second best version of warp as it still had elements of what TMP did. After that it just got cheaper and cheaper looking until we got to the godawful JJ films.
@doabarrellroll69 Жыл бұрын
@@alucard624 it's basically the same effect as the TMP one if you look closely. It still has the Enterprise speeding up while light "stretches" behind it, but instead of the flash and light tunnel, the stars stretch as well and in the end everything goes to black instead of the light streaks catching up and a light bang happens.

I have to say that the scene where the Enterprise-D warps away from the Amargosa observatory was one of my warp favorites (Generations). Although when the new Enterprise-E goes to warp you can see the plasma exhaust shooting out the nacelles. It's all pretty sweet!!!

THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS. I COULD WATCH IT ALL DAY! AS MUCH AS I LOVE THE OLD LIGHT STREEKS TRAILING BEHIND, I ALSO LOVE THE RECENT EFFECT FROM THE ENTERPRISE-E OF LEAVING A FAINT TRAIL OF "SMOKE" OR EXHAUST BEHIND AS IT DISAPPEARS.

My favourite has to be the one at 0:20! It just strikes a nice balance between the, what I believe to be, over-done warp effect in TMP (0:03 - 0:12) and the lackluster effort from TSFS (0:23) onwards.

I watched the entire first season without being too terribly impressed. However, it does grow on you, the way a person grows on you when you hang around them enough. And then before you know it, you realize you're in love. The newer episodes (I watched the newest one this morning :)) have begun to respond to the fans in ways the first episodes did not, which is making the show better than ever. Also,the fan-created material and charity work is truly amazing.

non-star trek fans might laugh about this but when I sat in Nemesis, the first movie I was able to see in a cinema and the enterprise moved by I got tears in my eyes and goose skin. And it still does, I can´t explain why ;)

The flash of light is the moment as the ship goes faster than light (in Star Wars often called breaking the light barrier). It is like the bang you hear after a jet goes faster than sound; but we are speaking of lightspeed here...so it is a optical phenomenon not a acustic one.
@TheDragonWhelp15 жыл бұрын
Nice compilation you've got here! I myself like the warp effect from the new movie... how the ships basically just disappears in a matter of a nano second... it's how it would look taking into account that the jump to warp is instantanius. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the idea of warp is to compress space infront of the ship and expand it behind... thereby pushing the ship forward.. so basically as soon as the warp engines fire it should accellerate to warp 1.... i dunno.. just some thoughts ^^

Yes it is. Fascinating knowing whatever a being can imagine, he can bring about, whether its domestic and industrial electricity, nuclear fusion, or Artificial Gravity-vector propulsion(warp-drive).
@TheDoctor34215 жыл бұрын
I thought it had a tiny blue streak for a quarter of a second or so? Either way, the reason its amazing is the sound, it's just so sudden. It feels like they go to warp in a billionth of a second. J. J. said he wanted the ships to feel like they were actually moving fast, and you really did feel it.
@Beamshipcaptain15 жыл бұрын
Great thing about Warp drive, as opposed to sublight travel at relativistic velocities, is that with Warp Drive, there is no mass-dialation, and no resulting time dialation. You can go on a starship for a 2-month journey to the Alpha-Centuri or Proxima Centauri stargroup (which are the right spectra, age, and luminosity for planets and life-main sequence) round trip, and when you get back, your friends and family on Earth will still be the same age you are!
@wado194211 жыл бұрын
#2 I think. IMO, that one had the best effects in general.
@lloyd007a11 жыл бұрын
From a production perspective and according to Animation Supervisor Charlie Mullen, "the effects' look changed depending on who was directing the film". Plus there was never really any standard way to create the effect, so it evolved over time.

The Sovereign class is a thing of beauty. And there's just something about these "classic" ST style warp effects that I am extremely partial to. Ships just *popping* off into warp in the 2009 movie felt empty.

@Fedaykin2412 жыл бұрын
I must admit I rather prefer the jump to warp in the early trek films like Motion Picture. You get a real feeling for the massive energies being gathered to sling the ship into Warp speed. Later films and series it all happens with a zip and that's it!

Probs for calling out the lameness of what they did on Nemesis. Thanks for the complication.

I like the Phoenix at 1:10-1:13 the best. The nacelles lighting up with that BLUE flash, (never liked the rainbow effects of the earlier movies, prefer solid colors, like BLUE) good stretching effect, disappear, and then POP FLASH. Perfect, in my humble opinion.

One other thing I miss: The warp effect in VI. You don't see the Enterprise hit warp, but you see it traveling at warp. It has the usual movie lines but with TNG-style streaking stars. I liked that combination.

While I do like the new warp in the 2009 film, they have to add in a sonic boom-like sound for our enjoyment. Although in the vacuum of space I should imagine there would be silence, except within the ship when you hear the engines accelerating.

@TheJlook200012 жыл бұрын
i agree with uploader - the TMP warp effect was a technical and emotional highlight that has been muted and virtually discarded in subsequent films . maybe producers felt it distracted from their more action-orientated efforts or something
@TheTigerwolf5512 жыл бұрын
Couple of reasons for that. First, different situations, Kirk was not under immediate threat, Picard was. Second, two different captains, two different styles. Third, and this one might just be opinion, but Kirk was about as commanding as a spoiled two-year old in the first movie just wanting his way the entire time, and it reflected in his orders. Picard, while emotionally distraught, was still the Captain. One word was all that was needed from him *puts on flame retardant suit*.

@WROrchestra Your right about the Wrath of Khan, that scene is brilliant where you hear the warp speed in three separate shots as it gets away from the Genesis device explodig onboard the USS Reliant. Although I also like the warp effects in Star Trek 1. The scene where the Eneterprise is caught in a wormhole reminds me of an old style computer game-its fun.

These are good but to me the best warp drive effect was in the movie Lost in Space. That was epic.
@WeebLabs15 жыл бұрын
Actually, warp drive is very possible. A Warp-capable vessel does not exceed the speed of light. It instead creates a subspace "bubble" which contracts space ahead of the ship, while expanding it behind. Under this principal, a starship can travel at virtually any velocity. Warp drive is currently being studied as a possible means of future interstellar travel.

The stretch effect was awesome. NEM and the Abrams movies look shit like comparison.
@espiongerbil14 жыл бұрын
@atreides73 Something a lot of people seem to forget was that the original constitution class was built at the ship yards in San Fransisco, as indicated by the dedication plaque on the bridge. The Enterprise was always built on Earth. Given all the technical wonders of the ST universe, I imagine launching a ship into orbit, something we're capable of now, isn't hard. The reason it was built in Iowa is the whole project was altered to be in honour of George Kirk's sacrifice.

For all we know they could be more accurate though even though they don't have all the colors in them. My personal favorite was the Enterprise - D. I didn't really like the Enterprise - E going to warp, though.
@Beamshipcaptain14 жыл бұрын
this is the 30th anniversary of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, that I stood in line for 2 hours senior year high school to see. And of all the movies and shows, it is the most scientifically accurate depiction of going into inertialess faster than light travel, using an electrically generated artificial black hole for superluminal travel, using the fantastic-power generated by matter-antimatter annhilation. With warp-drive, ther is no mass-dialation, and therefore no time dilation.
@doogboh11 ай бұрын
Not for nothing, Asimov himself was science advisor on that first film. (He actually said that the paycheck was just about the easiest one that he ever got; he was friends with Roddenberry, who, accordingly, had already been appraised about scientific accuracy. So, when Asimov got a look at the movie, all that he really had to do is say that Gene had basically gotten everything right to begin with. LOL.)

This smoke from warp drive is really a smoke. Warp core burns fuel, even if it is an antimatter, there is still reaction in engine between mater and antimater that produces not only energy, but also slight amounts of waste particles exhausted with warp plasma when ship is moving at warp.

The TNG episode "Force of Nature" was the ep that established the warp 5 speed limit. However, the speed limit is presumably no longer in effect. Ships like Voyager, with it's variable-geometry nacelles, and the Enerprise-E, with it's advanced tech, no longer cause damage to subspace itself.

While I've yet to come across such an ad on KZbin, I see your point. I am also sorry if you felt that I slighted your fandom in referring to it as a fad. I won't contest your opinion of it since mine is neither more nor less valid. Personally, I've watched several episodes of the show and while I feel it's got its charm I also feel it's not something I'd watch on a routine basis nor do I count it among my top shows. @Outrider2x Since our best guess right now, as unadvanced weirdos, is that Alcubierre's math is 'most correct' in regard to obtaining warp drive - while the original movies are indeed more 'spectacular', the TNG effects before Nemesis were most 'on point', considering that an 'actual warp drive' would pull in empty space in front of the vehicle and compress it from behind, leaving the actual vehicle stationary relative to the space immediately surrounding it. IOW - Rainbows are for unicorns :D
