I wished for the VR Training room if there are moving targets. It's not too difficult to land headshots on a stationary target, but in actual battles, players are constantly moving. Moving practice targets could really help improve the player's aim and even help the player land more long ranged headshots once they enter the battlefield.

I got some tips for begginers: 1- Don't use fixed minimap option. Trust me. 2- Use the bigger minimap (press H), this way you can see a full big base using the minimap. 3- If you play solo/anti aircraft/ESF use the [ ] buttons. 4- Get a gaming mouse and change you keybinding. For example, I got my quick knife key to a mouse button that is always under my hand, and this way I can knife automatically and easily when I need a real quick knife. 6- Use sounds! If you do, you can hear a light assault flying to the roof you are sniping from, you can know you got an infiltrator around by the cloacking sound, you can know about enemies nearby (firing sound), about aircrafts and grouns vehicles (driving and flying sound). 7- Play in each faction, learn the pros and cons of each ones' weapons&ESFs and remember the sounds of them ESF, weapons and voices. 8- Join a platoon! This way you can learn from others about the game and maps and sh*t. 9- Don't focus on one class, continent or weapon. There's nothing 'best' or 'worst'. 10- Play for fun. It's a game. Laugh at your mistakes and fails, and learn from them. Good luck!

If you're having trouble getting yourself to go for the head in twitch situations, here's a painful but effective method I used on myself: Step 1: Bring an Infiltrator to a medium-big fight (with ~even population) and push for objectives with the Heavies/Medics. By giving yourself a 20% shield reduction and entering a hectic environment, you reinforce your goal to react quickly and target purposefully. This will suck for awhile if it's vastly different from how you normally play, but if you have the right mindset it can be a fun way to challenge yourself. It might also be a good idea to use your recon tools, both because they can make it easier to "initiate," and because aforementioned Heavies/Medics might start wondering why the hell you're there otherwise. Step 2: Use your faction's Low-Magnification Bolt-Action Rifle (Ghost for VS) Probably the most brutal part, as it's get a headshot or go home. The only thing that will keep you going is how satisfying it is when it works (especially when it's popping a Heavy before they have a chance to throw shields up). Once you've been doing it for awhile (preferably after a streak of deaths) move on to the next step. Step 3: Use your faction's Low-Magnification Semi-automatic Scout Rifles (Nyx for VS) After using the Bolt Action for so long, this will feel completely liberating. Getting two subsequent head shots barely feels like any longer of a TTK, and you'll be a lot more capable when you find yourself fighting groups of enemies. That said, you'll eventually start getting annoyed with the severe rise in TTK when you miss shots, particularly on side-strafing/jumping enemies and when the COF gets too wide to compensate for. When this happens go to the next step. Step 4: Use your faction's Automatic Scout Rifle (Artemis for VS) You're almost back to your comfortable old Assault Rifle/Carbine! The Auto-Scout Rifles fill this weird niche that really only feels good (to me) after having set backs with other weapons, but I think you'll find that they reward accuracy nearly as much as the semi-autos while also giving you more breathing room if a target moves unexpectedly or activates heavy shields. They also have significantly lower vertical recoil and forward grips virtually eliminate horizontal recoil. This time, don't go to the next step until you feel confident with this one. Step 5: Go back to your old ground-pounding class. The 20%+ gain in shields will make you feel invincible. Because it matters to some people (and, since this is much more opinion than empirically derived advice, I suppose it's somewhat relevant), my KDR is 1.53, SPM 223.3, and 81% of my kills are as non-MAX infantry (BR 49).

seriously though, this right here. I'm an infiltrator main (over 7p% game time) and I only aim for the head. it's the only way to compete with assault rifles and such when your running around with pistols.

Another well thought out video. I particularly like the point you made about "Alpha Damage", as I find this is key in winning any firefights. I would certainly recommend putting in some training in VR, jumping around and aiming for the head etc, before you actively do so in battle though, otherwise you may find yourself missing headshots, losing firefights and getting frustrated. Practice always makes perfect!

Super late to this video but I want to emphasize the mouse sensitivity thing. I dropped my sensitivity a lot when playing FPS games and find it helps me hit targets more reliably. So give it a try and you might be surprised. Sometimes you over compensate when aiming and it causes you to swing your mouse/crosshair to far and you miss.
@nehylen57389 жыл бұрын
I used to be just another poor victim for months, but i'm now a very consistent player in accuracy/HS ratio. What helped me the most were these: - lower the sensitivity. I was ok with the default one (0.5), but i did much better as soon as i got used to lower (0.140 nowadays). I already have slightly lower than default sensitivity on Windows.. Took me about 3 days of 3~4 hours of play to get fully comfortable with it - use the lowest scope available for your weapon, unless you need a specific setup: smaller target means more manageable target movement, and thus less mouse movement.In my opinion you very rarely need anything else than 1x/IRNV on anything but pure sniper rifles, even at 100m from your target, if only because of the crazy recoil with a scope, but also to avoid tunnel vision. Eve battle rifles and scout rifles actually perform better with 1x than with scopes. There might be an issue on that specific point depending on how large/wide your resolution/screen is. - don't look at the ground. This i already did from day one (my old CS 1.6 days surfaced!). It's actually difficult for me to look at this particular video because Wrel looks at the ground so much. I always aim at where i anticipate the head of a putative enemy. [KAIN] Renzor describes it very accurately in his video "the shadow war": v=yeletlnJObk - use a specific gun a lot. I like variety, so that was hard for me, but playing the same gun for 1160 kills really makes a difference in how you get used to recoil pattern. In hindsight i feel like i knew a gun, say at ~95% when i had ~300 kills on it, compared to the 100% i knew when i was at the end of auraxing a gun. 5% seems small, but it makes a world of difference in practice. My worse auraxium was the the Pulsar LSW which i started understanding at ~350kills from auraxium, only. Horrible before, bliss afterwards: my HSR on it went from 24.5% to 29.5% due to those last 350kills. In general, everything that makes you move your mouse+wrist less is a good thing. More physical movement=more room for error= more corrections to make, putting more emphasis on raw eye-hand coordination rather than automatisms. You want automatisms.

I posted a comment with tips for begginers a week ago but I forgot these: 1. Using the medic tool, you can start reviving or healing only when the ally is in front of you, but if you start reviving and get to cover while holding the button, you will keep reviving. 2. Change your horizontal field of view (via setting). again, trust me. 3. Don't auto-spawn all the time- play all classes, change your weapons and your implants by the needs of the battle.

If your mouse runs at 3600dpi out of the box and you're using the default sensitivity, good luck hitting anything. Lower sensitivity is pretty important, and going lower than you're comfortable with is probably a good idea if you don't want carpel tunnel and other repetitive stress injuries. With that said, I'm "old" and I played counter-strike for 10+ years before the "new" csgo game dropped (idk, since the mod. and quake before that). Lowering sensitivity was important for twitch shooters like counter strike and quake, but I felt battlefield-style games like planetside 2 had less need for really low sensitivities UNTIL gaming mice started running at 1000 polling rate and having insane out of the box DPI (like 3600 DPI is pretty nutty). Both my DPI and polling rate is set to 1000, it's a g403 logitech mouse with a PMW3366 sensor (my favorite sensor by far). What I learned from twitch shooters that proved extremely helpful to me was finding the optimal sensitivity for most accurate target snapping, in my case it's very low in planetside 2 compared to what I had initially expected, but as soon as I honed in on it my ability to land consistent shots went up significantly. (giving you numbers is pretty useless since it will vary with hardware) I don't mean to say I'm great because I all but ruined my "kdr" playing the game in the beginning as a squad with my friends (couple of months, they kept changing factions). I thought that perhaps I was just getting old and out of practice, but I didn't feel like my sensitivity was too high. After spending 20 minutes getting my sensitivity to an optimal range I started actually playing like myself, and I've been doing that with every fps game since. DPI, polling rate and sensitivity is not the only things that make a big difference. Seated position makes a difference together with what mouse mat you're using, or not. DPI and sensitivity is not an accurate representation of your actual 360 degree sens without also taking the surface your sensor sits on into account. And your ability to develop good muscle memory is also compromised by having shitty posture. Four "quick tips" to improve aim instantly. 1. Sit up straight, if your arm can rest comfortably and hold your mouse without too much elbow flailing, you should be good. (you might need more, you might need less) 2. Find the same sensitivity in all games you actively play, and make that the optimal sensitivity for you to fast and accurately acquire targets (flicking vs tracking are separate skills). 3. Get rid of unnecessary things like mouse acceleration and use raw mouse input. If your mouse has an inbuilt acceleration, there are "mouse fix"s that can help make it a more accurate 1/1. 4. Test out different seated positions, mouse and mouse mats to find what works for you. Logitech and Steel Series mouse mats are good, hard mats are too slippery imo (cloth pads is da wey). Generally speaking big clunky mice can work for tracking, but not great for flicking. A mid-way is a good choice unless you can easily work with a smaller mouse (no reason not to try, but big hands + small mice can painful over house of play). Free tip, pay attention to what you're doing and how it's going. If you feel like you're doing worse than yesterday aim-wise, it might be that you're not sitting up straight or that you're getting careless. The best way to improve overall game play is to pay attention to what you're actually doing. You might be running head first into big engagements and getting rekt, not because your aim is bad, but because you are running your head against a wall repeatedly. Tilting is the first and worst offender when it comes to poor aim and tactics.

I have a bit different approach when it comes to headshots. There are three aiming points: center mass, neck, head. Which one to choose - depends on situation and distance to the target. It's not just the matter of "all or nothing", "always go for headshots or not". Conscious choice needs to be made in each engagement.

I gotta say, i have had something like a 2 month break and dicided to make a couple new charicters for the freshness of it now that im getting back into ps2, one of them 'pIaidoe' is 95% dedicated infiltrator and medic only since there my least played classes and i wanted to focus on accuracy and survivability with this character something for sure is that after spending 2 hours crushing it in close quarters with my Ghost loadout and moving back to the medic, my aim is just solid, I Heavily Heavily recommend doing this, Especially if your having trouble with aim, get something that'le make you sweat and force those synapses with aim contrall, even if it means your (completely irreverent) kd might take a hit, (or tremendous boost) Im talking about getting the ghost, and pushing with your team, not sniping in the distance, (though it has merrits) being a good plinker isnt the goal here.. Step 1; get difficult, Low fire rate weapon, 2; Practice slowing the balls down because that might be why your missing (feel your weapon) and just have at it, at medium range, it might be punishing but when you move back to an auto- low recoil weapon like the gause saw you'l be like, holy budda balls, aiming is like nothing pew pew! pew! step 14; mlg all day 4 lyfe.

I find in my time playing with a 1200 DPI mouse, a 0.08 difference between my standard infantry sensitivity and my ADS sensitivity. The extra ADS precision makes a world of difference for nailing headshots, and I say that as an NC main where weapons try to shake out of your hands.

3:15 - 4:05 This is exactly why HA is so overly powerful with the shield protecting the head. Even if you get those headshots, he's still got nearly 2x the health, so it's as if you're only hitting the body. Even though you did everything right, you're still quite likely to die to his "I win" button anyway.
@Jcdanie9 жыл бұрын
TheKhopesh And here we go again, another scrub thinking HA is op, No, it is not, No other infantry moves slower then the HA, and their weapon's TTK is lower then carbines and assault rifles such as the GD7F and the HV45. Also if you're going against heavies face to face if you don't get perfect headshots of course you're going to lose. Because that's what heavy is for. So if you're a LA or something do what your class was meant to do and flank them. And it's 500 more health, meaning one headshot and a body shot will more then strip it. And if you're chaining headshots and actually hitting the head, that won't matter on fast firing guns because they'll be dead.
@TheKhopesh9 жыл бұрын
Risingstorm "No other infantry moves slower then the HA" Only when they chose to and it doesn't matter. "and their weapon's TTK is lower then carbines and assault rifles such as the GD7F and the HV45." Barely (less than 0.25 seconds slower on the CQC weapons, which the shield more than makes up for even if they get outflanked and don't get to fire first). "Also if you're going against heavies face to face if you don't get perfect headshots of course you're going to lose." Even when you do get perfect headshots, he can still win. "And it's 500 more health, meaning one headshot and a body shot will more then strip it." 625-800 actually (depending on the HA shield and armor slot), meaning either 2-3 headshots, or 4-5 body shots (nearly a whole person's worth of extra health) depending on damage tier.

Regarding sensitivity, I cut mine in half earlier this week and I'm already seeing positive results regarding HSR and overall accuracy in the weapons I've been using since. Still learning how to deal with doing quick 180/360 turns tho. Atm I'm using a G502 at 200 DPI and 0.4 sens in-game. And I hear ya on the issue of keeping the crosshairs at head level Wrel. REALLY tricky for me to do. I'm currently trying to keep it in mind at all times but sometimes I slip (actually more often than I'd like to). -_-

Thanks for the tips wrel! really helpful! Heres my opinion on lowering mouse sensitivity, which helped me alot. Its not like you say "Oh yea, im just going to put my mouse sensitivity to 2 today, since it was at 5 yesterday.". Its a process. You lower it by however much feels right to you a day. I lowered mine by .25 a day, lowering it in increments of .05 throughout the day. when you lower it your K/D will suck terribly. My Daily K/D dropped from around 1.2 to .6. The optimal sensitivity setting is when you drag the mouse from one edge of your mousepad to the other and get a 400 degree turn. Lowering the sensitivity really helped my improve my aim, so I think its a good idea to just go for it and try it. if it doesnt help, set it back!

I have a hard time aiming for head shots because, like how most soldiers are trained, my brain is conditioned to hit the largest target, IE the body or center of mass. It's just for me, it's the easiest target to aim at quickly and hit, so that's what I do, usually. So, my strategy has been to use weapons with a fair amount of recoil and let the gun "climb up" to the head from the body on its own, if that makes sense.
@shufadragon9 жыл бұрын
+Strix Hitting the chin strap also counts as a headshot in PS2. Put your sights on one of the holographic Xs on the back wall of the VR firing range and observe the weapons tendency to climb or pull when not moving the mouse. I found that on the firing range I can start at the head and pull down so hard the last shot hits the toes. Then repeat on head and pull down to knees, then belt, then I start on the throat and pull down to the throat when I have a feel for how much effort it takes to counter the vertical recoil. There are many ways to practice, cheers.
@G4Br1ELCLM9 жыл бұрын
It is also crucial when playing infiltrator. Body shots with SRs hardly result in kills, so scoring a headshot is more important that trying to hit follow up shots, specially how hardly anyone stands still after getting hit by one and how easily it is to suddenly change direction. Also, most of the Sniper Rifles have are zeroed to a certain range, so even if you put your cross-hairs at the center of the head you can still see the bullet fly over your targets at shorter ranges like less than 75m.

Good tips, i prefer headshots with my lmg's and smg's(pdw). One thing i think should have been more hit on would be the optimal distance for head shots. For example that shooting at someone with an lmg at 90m away and aiming for the head is more difficult than just body shots at that range.

To all the people going mad around sensitivity . FIND YOUR OWN BEST ! The basic fact is that if somebody will shoot to your back , with higher sens. you can turn and kill him with low sens. its pretty damn hard to do. But slower is better on aiming for headshots . Your "Best" or your "Golden point" should be somewhere between that.

Unless I'm actually using a sniper rifle, I don't really care much for headshots. I usually just aim got the chest area, and try to keep my recoil in check. Surprisingly this has gotten me a lot more accidental headshots than if I actually try aiming for the head.

Have you covered cone-of-fire settling while ADS? One of the biggest problems new players (and uninformed veterans) have with accuracy while playing infantry is waiting a millisecond for their CoF to settle after stopping to ADS. Failing to do so will start the player at hipfire CoF at the start of an engagement which will pretty much guarantee most of the shots will go wild due to the large starting CoF and will more often than not end not to well for the player. Planetside 2 is actually the only FPS game I play that has this mechanic. Other more popular FPS games like Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty immediately grant the player pinpoint accuracy upon ADS.

Good tips. I'll remember toI go for head shots when I'm an infiltrator with an smg. I use a silencer for good reason but it does weaken the gun even more, so I might end up using at least 10 shot to kill someone if I'm not right behind them. With head shots, I could probably go for 4 shots in a burst.

I personally aim for the chest just because I can land more shots that way, but if you want to go for the head and become a headshot shooter, then I like to aim at the upper chest and just pull up just barely to land a few head shots, but like I said, I mainly go chest anyways so

What about horizontal field of vision? Any comments you'd like to touch on that? Logically, if you're playing as infantry, you'd want to have a higher field of vision so you know where you're hitting and can spot movements easier. But I always find myself getting paranoid because in doing so my blind spots increase to where it takes more effort to see what's happening on my right or left corner field. But if you set your FoV down to 0 to where you have a better view of things, targets from farther away are hard to hit because you can't see them, or your mouse sensitivity greatly increases whether you realize it or not, making it easier to miss your target. Of course there really is no better setting for this because it IS a setting after all and it takes getting used to. But where do you have your field of vision set to?

If you wanna train keeping your crosshair higher, the yellow stripe on the inside of the double or triple stack (i forget) building is a great place to start. You'll see this in a lot of buildings and is just about head-height. Props to guacc on emerald for dropping that tidbit on me. As a dinosaur where most of my fps gaming time was spent in pre-source counte-strike, this has helped a lot.

Hey wrel, what settings do you play on
@sandler799 жыл бұрын
I practice by finding a place with low activity so there's less going on around you and you can focus on the practice. Also using the stationary shooting targets you may see around can help but isn't as good.

I just started playing this game, and here is my first nooby question: What happened when my screen gets blurry for a few seconds and the HUD disappears?
@WrelPlays9 жыл бұрын
That means you were hit by an Infiltrator's EMP Grenade, which also drains your shields and energy.

Interesting guide, i just wonder what is better in hippfire, especially if you move a lot, like during a jump jet run or a drifter jet run, to aim head or chest. In general, if you are moving a lot or strafing during hippfire or downsight, should i aim head first or last ?

Why do you use that chevron sight? The reticle is so freaking huge I would think it'd be almost impossible to get precise aiming
@adrellisartarnovalrus20939 жыл бұрын
maybe it helps? blotting out the head means you're aiming at (near) it?
@BUSHBOY9 жыл бұрын
I use it too, I've been getting more headshots with it. I guess it really comes down to the person, its different for everyone. Its like asking people who use iron sights why? when there are good 1x scopes
@grantmonsma35699 жыл бұрын
I use the chevron because it obscures LESS than the other reticles. Since the part that is lined up with your target is the very tip of the chevron, it is only a single pixel or so, as opposed to most of the other reticles which can obscure your target somewhat due to the thicker "point" at the center. It does make it harder to see things below the actual target point, but unless you are dealing with really bad bullet drop for some reason, it's not really an issue.

What sights do you recommend for the mswr Lmg? I cant land any hits because the sights are meant for different ranges! Is there an easy to use sight similar to titanfall holosights, red dot sights, and just visible, but not too visible. I spent so many certs on sights, I could have bought a PDW SMG :(

This video kinda reminds me of the time I was single-handedly taking on about 2 squads of TR on my NC infiltrator on Esamir. I couldn't stop them from taking bases but I could slow them down and get some kills on the way and even made some friends with them. :D In one instance, I ran upstairs into the cap room and saw three out of five of them lined up perfectly for headshots for my Cyclone SMG. To say the least my three targets dropped pretty quickly. After that I don't know if I recloaked and bugged out, killed the other two, or just died. I probably died. xD As for mouse sensitivity, I have mine set fairly high on top of the 2000 DPI for my mouse because my focus is on tracking targets in close-quarters, being able to turn around on any assailants, and recoil compensation. When I'm sniping, my mouse has on-the-fly dpi switch for 2000, 1000, and 500 dpi to help with quick precision if I ever need it. I don't think I've ever used the 500 dpi setting though because it's too slow for me.
@Nitrus59 жыл бұрын
Wait, you've never messed with your sensitivity? I realize it can be hard to get used to, but I've tweaked it a few times, and found it to slightly improve my performance. Also, have you ever heard of/tried Interstellar Marines?

Hey, Wrel, have you ever done any videos on FPS in regards to frames per second as opposed to first person shooters? I just started PS2 a few days ago and while I have my own problems with feeling impotent with god awful MAX AT guns, no mines or C4, no weapon I prefer to use because semi-auto rifles are all 250C at least and the Infiltrator gets more of it's own, shit medguns/repair guns and the general newbish "ihavenoideawhatimdoingorwhereimgoing", I am also having massive issues with atrocious framerates. I've an FX-6300 and an R9 290, which can pretty easily manage 60fps at the warpgate or in small battles. But in anything bigger than 24v24 (which is most fights), I'm running >30 and short of setting all graphics to low and playing potato, I don't know how to alleviate it. Just gotta deal with it? Bad hardware for the game or what? I mean, in the video above, you're permanently above 60. Just a stronger rig than mine is the reason?
@Gardosuro9 жыл бұрын
About the lowering sensitivity thing, I kinda feel I should increase mine as I do have a hard time following people in close quarters battles and I often die when in that situation. But again it might just throw off all the other aspects of my gameplay for a while : /

To me head shots are ONLY important when I get the initiate on someone in cqc or c-m range. Most players wont have the reflex and aiming skill to head shot a target which has already initiated on you. There's also the factor that once you open up on your stationary target, you only have a limited time to kill him before he will be able to react and respond. Basically, before the server nudges him that he is taking damage and from "this" direction. Basically, I am talking about time to kill before you get killed. I do not have the skills or the reflexes to react that fast when I am initiated on. Especially due to client side hit detection. Typically, by the time you get initiated on you are already critically damaged and by the time you manage to react your enemy will have already killed you on his screen. Therefore, it is not a risk I am willing to take. If my target is stationary, if I have a accurate weapon equipped, if the target is within my -very- effective killrange on my current weapon then ONLY then will I go for headshots. Because if the target isn't, then it is much safer to go for the chest as the time to kill is impossible to counter. An example: The test Wrel did, allow Wrel to shoot back but ONLY when he notices that he starts to take damage. Panic, threat location, damage inflicted... all these unknown factors will actually prevent Wrel from counter killing his enemy even if he does accurate headshots. It is the main reason so many play heavy assault. Because with the Win-Shield you at least have that chance to counter attack. Where as otherwise, 99% of the time you will be dead if initiated upon.

In most games developers put lines and details all over the map to keep you mindful of head level. Not totally useful I. Every big open firefight in planetside but certainly helps in the close range fights at the bases. Look around at the door frames, window frames and such. You'll start to notice designs that seem to be deliberately keeping you focused on head level by simply aligning it with the horizontal part of the crosshair. I've also found that the overwolf dash for this game can be extremely helpful in the way that you can put a reticle in the center of your screen. After doing this you'll see that every sight in the game; including the hipfire crosshair; are a few if not several pixels from the center of the screen. As you can imagine this has obvious advantages. However if your monitor has an options for a center reticle ALWAYS use that instead as it will be more accurate for your setup. As far as I've researched you can't get into any trouble for using overwolf but I would do you own research before quoting me on that. If anyone with more info on Overwolf and would like to clarify for me and others; go for it.
