I'd also recommend putting at least one rank into your ammo pack as well. I've been told that a higher-rank ammo pack will "override" a lower one if a friendly is standing within range of both. Every little bit helps!

Really? Thanks! Also I don't know if this still exists but if you push b while holding a turret you can switch to a ammo pack. Lots of people know this but I believe Wrel in one of his older videos said that it is a Level 3 ammo pack. Very helpful if you are correct.

Same here. I got PS2 on Steam a few days ago, and have been mostly playing TR. The average newbie's lifespan is somewhat legendary for its brevity, so some of these tips were pretty clear from the outset - definently recommend starting as Engineer, because you always have something you can do to contribute. As a new player acclimating to the chaos of this game, what I like to do is find the 'yellow zone' - it's between the front lines where combat is really happening, but it's not quite the 'green zone' that your Empire holds and is more or less safe. I always know where it is, because it's usually where damaged tanks and the 'close-in' Sunderers are sitting around (usually getting shelled) - drop an ammo pack, and pull out the Nano-Armor Tool, and you'll be raking in XP in no time flat. The only challenge is remembering to keep an eye on the ammo pack you drop, because they go quickly! I suspect in this game, that each ammo pack has a set (but high) amount of ammo in each little box, but I A) don't know, and B) can't yet prove it. I'm slowly getting more knowledgeable about the base layouts (they seem pretty standard), and getting more knowledgeable about the dominant tactics in the game, which is where this guide really shines - it saves me days, if not frustrating weeks - of trial and error. Soon, I think I'll be able to be more aggressive and not have a lifespan measured in seconds most of the time. Great guide, it is much appreciated, especially from this noob! Possibly another strategy, is point conversion. As an infiltrator, you can find an enemy base with low population and capture its points repetitively, with each capture giving 600 base xp in a few seconds. An enemy player will likely come and take the points back, then you can keep recapping while staying out of the enemy's way. This gave me a whole bunch of xp ;)

I find it useful to play as an infiltrator. With the new activated knives and that cloak that recharges while you're still, you can easily guard against small attacks on cap points.

This is where I feel the need to introduce one of my infiltrator loadouts. You'll want to run with either a semi auto sniper rifle or a scout rifle of any flavour. You'll want a motion spotter (but the recon detect device will work, it just requires more time on your part). Finally, you'll want to equip a marker implant. Now, I call this loadout 'The Intelligence Officer' and it is primarily a support build for the infiltrator class. Your focus should be to put a motion spotter down near where the fight is happening, but out of the way of the enemies and any stray grenade bounces. Behind a wall is good, as are any room/building protected by a shield (except for spawn rooms). After that you get down to fighting people, if you get kills, great. If not and you get an assist, then you'll get recon XP, spot XP and assist XP which will generally be more than the kill itself is worth. Not only that, You'll be helping your team by supplying them with information on the enemy soldier's whereabouts. This loadout works best in big fights (the bigger the better), and you can tuck yourself in amongst your allies for additional support (heals/revives/resupplies etc) and to lower chances of ending up in a 1v1 situation where you may or may not come out on top.

I do agree that informing newer players of the mechanic involved (last hitting and how it affects your XP gain) is important, but I think you've neglected the possibility that your message will come across as "look for ways to steal kills." This could lead to new players looking for ways to steal XP from friendlies, and possibly even getting good at it. This is detrimental as a whole, because not only is it a dick move, but the very player using this strategy is probably ignoring other, much more lucrative forms of gaining XP. You might have cleared this up simply by saying, "Obviously, don't go out of your way to steal kills, etc. etc.," or simply omitting the "tip" about stealing kills altogether. You could have informed new players of the mechanic involved while also not turning it into a tip about screwing over your own faction.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this kill board culture already exists, so why not exploit it to get the one ribbon? Personally, I'm not too bothered with weather or not I got the kill, although it is a nice buzz. If five people are focusing on one target all trying to get that kill (How is this any different than the present?), the target is eliminated no matter what. The person who does the most damage gets the most XP. Yay team! Kills mean nothing, and I tend to think most people will understand this, rather than all go on kill steal streaks because, "Wrel said it was a good idea." Just so you know I'm not digging at you. I had the same initial reaction, until he explained further and got me thinking.

davidangel64 Thats the br 20 stages youre talking about, that ends at around br 40 I admit to slaughtering 5 of my team mates all at once with a luminedge to get a high threat kill. I didnt get weapon locked since its based on hit count, it takes like 20 hits to a friendly to get locked, and i only did 5.

davidangel64 well that is EXACTLY what he was talking about. theres no other way to put it. you steal kills =you get certs. this wasn't a video tutorial about how to have good sportsmanship and be a friendly player, this is purely about grinding certs. And like he said, it's a team game, and a kill is a kill. So no, you are not "screwing over your faction" if all you do is teamkill and rage and get butthurt over "kill steals" then you are the one screwing over your faction

Now there are additional methods to grind certs as of Jan 2021: 1. Join an outfit and stay until the end of the capture while attacking/defending a base. This will give you a currency called Merit. 2. Go to sanctuary and talk to the middle person in the right-most 'shop'. 3. Buy nanite boosters for 750 merit each (get at least 2). 4. Play as long as you can on an alert while COMPLETING (don't turn them in) missions, one of them called 'mining for elysium' that drops 200 certs is a good pick. 5. Activate 2 nanite boosters anytime in the last 30mins of the alert (to do this go to character->boosts). 6. Make sure to turn in missions and have the alert in last 30mins while the booster is active 7. The nanite booster usually (if you have 2 active) just doubles nanite gain for 30mins, but for some reason it also doubles certs gained from missions and ending alerts This is a fantastic method as you do very little for quite a substantial reward.

I spent a long time in a reaver with only the mustang killing a sundy and its constantly respawning squad in the same spot you parked at 8:29. Phenomenal spot for a sundy. The two squads defending the base didn't even know it was there until I spotted it (SPOT EVERYTHING!!). :) I encourage everyone to play infiltrator for a while - you can grind certs in big battles with recon darts (10xp chimes going on nonstop for 5-10 minutes is music to my ears!), and the fragility of the infiltrator forces you to slow down and really pick how you fight in order to have the advantage. That aspect gave me much better insight in to battle flow and the dynamics of the game. Great vid, as always, and thanks - you are one of a few YT PS2 players who helped immensely when I first started out. The learning curve to PS2 was the steepest for any game I've played, but I find the game more rewarding as a result.

My tip: Look out for a good Liberator pilot. The liberator is in my experience the most deadly and most usefull (depending on killing things) vehicle in the game. You kill so much and help your team out by spotting and killing sunderers easily. If you found a good pilot, ask him if you can play a little bit with him. Most players are friendly and help you out even if you make everything wrong. Steal with your eyes from your pilot. Look how he fly, when he goes away in a dangerous situation and basically everything you see. You are the eye in the air. So you learn much about the fights. How tanks drive when they beeing attacked, where most players deploy their sunderers and lots of more. If you play on the server "Miller" or just want to learn something new, write me a message. I love to help new players when I can :)

Every time I see one of these videos, I just don't get it. If I attempted any of the things you do I would get gunned down instantly. Every enemy I get close to instantly flips around and locks onto me immediately and I am dead before I can even react. Nobody ever seems to even notice you or shoot at you though lol. But everyone I meet is a perfect shot and 99% of their shots are headshots even from a massive distance.

A couple of things for newer players (and maybe some experienced ones) A tip for engineers, whenever you are not gaining resupply exp DROP THAT DAMN AMMO. Advancing towards a base? Drop it behind a tree or rock because some ally may need ammo. Dropping ammo packs at random locations can save their lives and give you more exp. With all the engineers I see running around ammo packs can be really damn hard to find except where the main zerg is. As for a medic please dont touch it until you have rank 4 or 5 of the medic gun, it takes forever to res, you are exposed and the ally you res have less health so its just risky, time consuming and frustrating for both players. Wrel said always shoot at ESFs but I would disagree, only shoot at them if they are engaging nearby targets if they are far away you cant kill them and getting their attention may not be the smartest thing. VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE IN A SUNDERER, DO NOT SHOOT AT THEM WITH THE BASILISK BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT KILL THEM. And last but not least please do not run through friendly players, I see this way too much from pretty much everyone in the game and they do not realize how bad it can actually be. If a friendly is shooting at an enemy and getting shot at and you run through him so he will get the friendly fire warning and stops shooting, you have taken damage and then get killed by the enemy which also your ally because he stopped shooting. You will see this all the time and it can be frustrating for everyone so just remember that the bullet does not start at the end of the barrel but inside the weapon (obviously) so run behind people.

As for the people running through other people thing, it's very true. I don't stop shooting if someone runs through me because of my extensive use of the MCG training me to NEVER sacrifice the spinup time just to spare the life of some insignificant LA deciding it was their time to shine... If I pop you three times in the back of the head it's your fault, if I run in front of you and you stop firing I assume it was an enemy and keep going. I've been messaged before by someone that was the victim of his own suicidal pathing, claiming I'd harmed him on some psychological level. I told him to please, run in front of a gun in real life while the guy firing it is fighting for his life, find out that you actually did. I'm a dick but I'm okay with it.

Some tips: 1.) Unlock Tank mines for your engineer and optionally sticky grenades. Run below a deployed sundy that doesn't have shield up (and pray it doesn't have mineguard either), drop mines -> shoot (and die) or throw sticky and run. Bam. Easy certs. 2.) Buy silencers for your HA and LA weapons; for NC HA I would recommend going with GD-22s (only 100 certs), though Gauss Saw can work too; for TR both Carv and MSW-R (100 certs) are good; for VS Orion is fine. For LA's the defaults are more than sufficient. Now the important part: Work on finding sneaky and hidden spots on every base and use them to sneakily mow people down. Certs guaranteed. For inspiration: GylleBMF gives some tips about farming. Part 2 Jumping tips

I can vouch for all of these tips. Been doing all of these since beta. My average day playing I will earn about 400-1200 certs and I do not have membership. This is over the course of 3-7 hours. I do everything he said. sundy, ammo pack, lots of killing, good spots, gunning, ribbons are big, and I target big-shot players for those bonuses. I drop mines where I can and I am versatile in my class and vehicle choices. Running boosters or being a member will increase this percent. being in a squad and defending or participating in alerts to the end help big time. It's not about the KDR (That's a useless stat), it's about being a smart player and only worrying about your score. That is the only stat that should matter. Score. That's how the leaderboards work on planetside2. Thank you Wrel.

I have a few tips. Use stalker for transporting sunders. A sunder rarely makes it away from enemies that start hurting you. You can change class once its safe and deploy it (most nonbase areas) to change back to your class. But deny the opponents your kill by leaping out, cloak and run a ways to confuse them where you are and crouch to redeploy. Anything with regeneration attached unless you fly then valkyrie/galaxy or ejection seat for other aircraft too. Strongly suggested VR room to learn to fly. Don't let air jocks pressure you into doing it live because they will just farm you.

Hey Wrel, Great advice on cert gains. Things I want to stress as being very efficient cert gainers are Sunderers with Proximity Repair/ or Ammo Resupply when rolling with a large column of friendly armor. Along with being a fairly good infantry user - I was able to hit 97,000 score/hour - Given I had Member + Heroic boost + 2x EXP on today. If you're on foot and you're looking to make certs, your cert gain will pale in comparison to anyone who has a sunderer AND is on foot. That being said I hardly ever reach that range of score/hour. So yea, sunderers. Also I main Liberator flying with over 600+ hours into lib flying. The thing is a cert machine when used properly. Theres been days where I've seen 50-70k ranges of score per hours without 2x exp. Albeit you need a good gunner or two and the correct conditions (no - little AA with plenty of armor down below to kill). My optimal combo when we roll out with armor is - Repair/Ammo sunderer + Engineer When trying to cap bases - Deploy Sunderer/Repair/Ammo + Medic/Engineer/Heavy Assault/Light Assault. Good luck to everyone trying to farm those certs. :D - Arkis/Arca9 (Connery)

Anyone with game time already knows this, but here's a word to the newer players. The medical applicator costs less than 200 certs to bring up to rank 5, but a full 500 certs to take it to max rank 6. Once you get it to rank 5, the medic becomes one of the best classes for grinding certs. As Wrel states, find a battle with 1-2 squads (12-24 players) on each side or a bit more (you don't want to get past about 3) and start working the most farmed choke point. Try to get revives off where you can and heal everyone. Use your F ability AOE heal for that. TRY NOT TO DIE. Death incurs a 100% drop in cert grinding efficiency. If you do, wait for another medic to pick you up instead of instantly respawning. If you do this right, you'll have enough dead allies to keep you too busy to worry about your certs (and you'll have a pile waiting for you when the dust settles) but not enough incoming fire that you cant revive effectively.

This a bit more of an advanced tip, but it's still simple enough that I think even newer players can make use of: Once you get used to driving sunderers, and have learned where and when to use/deploy them, start throwing some certs into them. My recommendation is to upgrade from your Basilisks to two Walkers or Rangers. (IMO the Walker is better but to each their own.) Also, look in the defense tab of your Sunderer and get at least two ranks of Ammo dispenser or Nanite PROXIMITY repair system, NOT Auto repair. Then, look for allied armor convoys whenever you can, and pull your sunderer and just join the pack. Not only will you rake in big time certs passively by simply being near allied armor and having your sunderer passively repair or resupply them with ammo, but you'll be invaluable as an anti-air machine (once you've unlocked your Walkers) because MOST armor columns are created with the purpose of dominating ground targets, and anti-air is often over-looked, so when that enemy Liberator tries to strafe you for an "easy" kill, just blast him with your anti-air guns. Chances are, if you have at least one other gunner to man your second Walker, you'll blow him out of the sky. Also, as a driver, if you have 2 gunners manning your Walkers, and they get the kill, you still get rewarded big time just for being at the wheel. Of course, only do this after you've gotten your medic tool to max rank, and are ready to move on to vehicles.

Tank Mines as Engi! People always forget to use them. If you know were to place them its free certs for sure. Also if you find a hot spot were the enemies are constantly spawning/resurecting you can get extra grenades or C4 in infantry terminals or sunderers and spam grenades them on their spawn (you will consume your Nanites doing this).

My suggestion to get certs at a low BR is to first and foremost join a platoon! As you keep playing more hours into the game you will find which public platoons work and which don't. Stick with your platoon and play as medic or engineer. This will mean that you are constantly close to people who can do the killing for you if you are not that good at killing people yet. At the same time, you can prop up your allies by healing them or resupplying their ammo, etc. If your allies capture a point, always go to the point and find a corner that isn't in the line of sight of doors, this way you can get point defense exp with a lower risk of getting killed by incoming grenades and Maxes.

I got 2 tips for you, if you are an infiltrator dont aways spot players they can hear you when your character yell TARGET SPOTTED!, also if a max is falling back its a good time to rush him he's doing it for a reason and the engineer will be defenceless.

I think that you could also get some lucrative experience by getting the various equipments that the Combat Medic gets as well. Revive grenades can get a huge amount of experience if you throw it in the middle of a ton of dead allies, and if you can deploy the shield restore somewhere close to the fight, you can also gain a little bit of experience from that too, so there's also those tools as well.

I've found in my expereince playing (70 hours) running with a squad is the best way to get certs/exp. Aside from squad bonus, you can play support and keep with them, or get guard bonuses. Plus, it's always nice playing with friends.

If you spawn in a tower, especially one with a point in it, pull an infil and shoot darts around the room. this will give you a stream of detecion bonuses while helping out your side. After you have shot your darts just switch out to your prefered class.

Another tip to add: If you're in a fight at a base where your team is losing and the enemy is spawn camping you, check your spawn room for a teleporter before you head to another base. Occasionally, enemies will focus on the spawn camp so hard that taking the teleporter puts you in a good spot to shoot them in the back.

That was a really awesome video, eventhough i don't really have problems, grinding certs. The afterthoughts (at 12:38) are also very important and picture exactly my stance of what the motivation should be to play a game. If you just play for the sake of unlocking stuff, which you might not even use very often, then I think you haven't understood the fascination of any good game. As far as I could recognize, I earned the most xp, when I'm in constant action (flow) and helping out other teammates. So boosting and similar stuff is imo total bullshit. Because I think the main reason for the urge of upgrading stuff is to be better in the game because of it. But as you said, skill is more important, and this you will just get by playing the game as it's meant to (or VR-Training of course).

On the last tip, snipers, find the biggest battles you can. If you can't headshot the enemies, at least body shot to make your teamate's lives easier as well as get the assist points. If you miss the head, chances are in a huge battle, someone else will. I play Connery as the user Pr1mus3(insert faction abbreviation VS TR NC).

I totally agree with a lot of what you said. Especially about how new players should start as engineer, but cert up their medic. This is a key strategy for getting tons of certs to gear up a new character. I am glad you looked at ribbons, As far as I knew (despite playing since beta) you would just randomly get a ribbon for playing the game. Knowledge is power, and so knowing how to obtain ribbons is key in maximizing cert gain. Another important point, the membership is totally worth it, even if you only intend to play for a couple of months, that $30.00 in membership dues will nab you a 50% exp boost, as well as a hefty resource boost, AND a passive cert gain which means even if you just open up the game and log in for a day, you'll nab some free certs, even if you don't kill a single soul that session. I'm auraxium level membership, so I get 48 certs a day per character. This basically means I've bene able to (over the past 2 years) gear up a main toon and 5 alts while almost exclusively playing my main toon. If I want to play VS, NC, or TR I have options. A last point I'd like to make for scrubs like me is that it's better to buy guns and buy when they''re on sale. Membership gives you 500 sc to play with, and the daily sales means your guns will usually only cost around 324 or 225 SC (depending on the base price of the gun). You'll save your certs for better things and also your guns will be unlocked account wide, meaning your alts will also get them (or if your alts are different factions, only NS weapons are like this).

also, another way for people to grind certification points is to find a good camping spot in any of the biolabs. (in esamir, indar, and no others.) find were they are rushing out and set up a camping spot where they least expect it.

Step 0: it is double exp weekend and you already got 2x exp boost items from the outfit center(sanctuary?). Step 1: Unlock two walker aa guns on your sunderer and add the aoe ammo recharger part on it. Step 2: Buy a sunderer and use horn to say teammates that they are needed on two turrets. Step 2.5: be the fastest sunderer to reach destination so everyone spawns from your spawnpoint. Step 3: harrass the enemy harrassers so they run and try their chance with aircraft only to give you experience points which is converted to certs with 1/250 rate. Step 4: repeat until zerging is finished. Even just aoe ammo exp from sunderer is good enough and lets armor division fire constantly which unlocks possibility of continent capturing for a good cert reward after 2 hours. Tip: incline the sunderer on a piece of rock so the aa turrets can fire below horizon. Sometimes mining 400 500 cortium and just carrying an anti infantry tower in your inventory is useful to turn the tables in some roads filled with enemy scouts. That deployable anti infantry turret even destroys aircraft.

How i get certs fast: Go infil and stealth cap. For small bases I just go infil with stalker and hide on top of the point crouched, which makes me about 97% invisible. For larger bases I'll hide on top of generators and destabilize them, then when people come to re-stabilize them, I shoot them and kill them. Most people don't have darklight, and even the ones that do can be easily taken out with a bit of skill.

Thats what I will do for the whole weekend: Take my maxed out medic, join the biggest open platoon i can find. Hopefully they have a good balanced fight. Then get to the next big camping spot of your allies, drop the shield regeneration field and heal everything and everyone around you. Good spots are in Bio-Labs near the landing pad and near the teleporters. Also Amerish has some good farming spots aswell because of the underground bases. It will also help you to have as many revive grenades as possible for the heros who decide to run out alone or the small squads who decided to make a small push but failed. With a membership, a heroic boost and double XP event I make 100 Certz every 10 minutes, which is pretty awsome.

since dying resets the resupply xp cap it is best to drop ammo in a populated area and then rush in to the enemy zerg, and if you aren't planning on using resources on vehicles or other classes you can throw sticky nades or proxy mines to earn even more certs :D (i was doing this in bio lab the other night, sooo many certs and got over 300 kills with sticky nades XD)

Heres a really good tip for some really good and sometimes quick certs, albeit this is hard to accomplish without dying without skill. After an alert, nearly ALL of the enemies should have 1000xp + after the alert. This means each and every enemy is a high threat/ extreme menace! Remember though, if you die on a locked continent, its game over for the afterparty. Have a good one!

Another recommendation I would have going off of the spotting idea, would be in large fights, use infiltrator with place-able motion trackers (this has given me a lot of xp) or get an ESF with infantry motion trackers, again use in big fights with preferably little anti air, hover over the area and get kills on top of getting spot bonuses.

***** that is only new infiltrators, a skilled infiltrator is either a beast at sniping and can take down high-priority targets (mainly enemy medics), or knows how to be an extremely effective close-range assassin with either his pistol or smg, while messing with enemy passive systems, such as terminals and turrets, constantly keeping the enemy from having those advantages.

***** The infiltrator is a support class. =p The recon tools are almost always extremely useful in any fight, if more people actually bothered to use them to support their team. Knowing where the enemy will attack from is half the battle with the low TTK of the game.

Typically what I do, is I'll stay in a "safe room" as an engineer while we're assaulting a base, then there'll be players coming back every 2 minutes or so asking for ammo or repairs. Also, when I'm playing as an infiltrator, I'll use the stalker cloak to sneak into any enemy base we're assaulting, then I'll hack into every terminal I see. If I see a vehicle terminal and there's no enemy vehicles around, I'll quickly spawn a Sunderer, drive it outside the base, hide it, and deploy. Then I go get back into the fight.

The Sunderer tips were excellent. I deployed a sunderer in a biolab the other day, and got maybe 1 spawn a minute. Then both of our other sunderers went down and mine was the only one left.
