well when you think of it, Harleys use engines smaller than a Honda civic. for engines like this, the tune, intake, cam, crank, and configuration matter more than the actual size, while an American v8 makes its sound from displacement and overlapping exhaust in large pipes. its its truly a work of art, to make good sounding engines

Single cylinder 4 stroke engines exist...

?
@rustbeltflow35232 жыл бұрын
They don't fire on the same "cycle." When the rear cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke (firing) the front cylinder is approaching TDC on the exhaust stroke . Due to the 45 degree bank angle and 720 degrees making two complete revolutions that leaves 315 degrees between one firing event and 405 to the next. That's what gives the "potato potato" sound
@rosiehawtrey2 жыл бұрын
On each power stroke the engine puts power into the inertia flywheel. The flywheel is heavy and maintains its movement pulling the engine into next firing stroke - this engine would never run without it because the of the time between firings. A 6 cylinder modern engine like my vitesse 2.0 can have a small flywheel because of the number of firings is enough alone to keep the engine spinning. The big old agricultural engines do have a flywheel with multiple cylinders not because of firing order but because of low speed, a Fairbanks-Morse 32E engine might idle at 75-100rpm, the Vitesse/Herald engine idles at 750.

It happened when I was about two and a 2 ½ years old, I was curious about some mechanical things and I went to touch some gears and something called a Ludlow machine, well I pulled my hand in and completely crushed it like hamburger meat. Believe it or not I sort of remember when I walked up to the machine, that's all I remember.

That Little Engine Looks So Good 😊 Sounds Great As Well But The Starting Method Doesn't Look Sustainable 😂🤣🤗

You're knowledgeable in a wide range of things. You built all that stuff from scratch using physical tools and software.

He didn't build the engine.

Actually the pipes are tuned slightly differently when you tapped on them. Their resonant note in not quite the same , an easy fix. Great job though!! Impressive sounding too! On a scale basis the ID of the exhaust pipe tubing is a little on the thick side relative to the real engine and may actually be choking the engine up a bit, but only dyno testing would confirm this thought! But these things are often impossible to fix on a scale basis. Be nice to see it a on a radio controlled scale Harley bike!! Great work!!!

I am certainly going to have to check out that new app... That sounds extremely impressive! Don't know what else to say about that engine other than I hope to find out what is wrong with it and see the destruction it went through as well as the steps you will take to repair it :-)

Loved it BUT it was painful to see the ez-out starter
@WarpedYT2 жыл бұрын
I had no choice on the first couple starting attempts the clutch bearing blew apart. Easy out starter was the only way to go but I did put a bushing in there that I would swap out when It got worn

The sound comes from the fact that the engine fires so far out of balance that it basically beat yourself to death. Which is why when they tried to make a shaft drive version of it it would destroy the transmission in short order. I quit counting how many I've told off the freeways because of bent pushrods

Why would the pushrods bend because the engine is out of balance? Pushrods open valves off a cam, they're not effected by the balance of the engine. Harley probably doesn't use shaft drives because of weight, aesthetics and power/fuel economy loss. It makes no difference if a final drive powers a chain or a shaft to the life of a gearbox.
@isaacsalinas26862 жыл бұрын
@@christopherdesbaux5950 the cam is driven by a chain or gear that is spun by the crankshaft. So yes they would be affected by the balance of the engine. Correct me if I'm wrong

Id venture a guess that most rc hobbyists would never put up with the problems these engines would cause. Plus, a true rc engine has been engineered and refined over decades to be efficient in power to weight ratio. These Harley models are just barely able to stay running, let alone produce useful work.
