I saw Warrant on 2 occasions. The most memorable was a show in a small club in San Diego right at the time that 80’s rock was fading and the Seattle scene was thriving. I’m gonna say 1993 or so. Interestingly, their PA system went down. All that was functional on stage was 1 mic and a keyboard. Jani improvised and busted into a medley of Queen and Beatles covers to fill time. To this day it is one of the best shows I have ever experienced. People don’t necessarily understand how talented he was. Classical trained on the piano and vocally since age 6. I really miss him. He has always been one of my main musical influences.

Hair Metal is remembered for the one hit wonders, but no way in hell was Jani Lane a one trick pony. This kid had the voice, talent and connection to the fans that not many had despite fronting a hair band. Jani was special. What a tragic loss to the entire rock and roll family when he passed. It didn’t have to be that way.

Something that I always found amazing about Jani was he was a very heavy cigarette smoker and there's no secret he had a fondness for whiskey both have destroyed some of the most amazing voices. Even years later his voice was as strong and sweet as it ever was. If he had been able to hang out with us for a little while longer I think his voice would have gotten better with the years. It was amazing. It really has only being in probably the last 10 years where I have been able to appreciate how very talented he was as a vocalist and a songwriter. As a woman and a groupie I got so caught up in his sex appeal that I really couldn't see beyond that as a older woman it's clear to see that what he offered on the outside was just a bonus. When I think of him he really feels like one of the friends that I partied with that didn't make it. I still cry and never met him in my life. There was something about him that attached himself to people and they couldn't get enough. I'm so grateful that he left behind such an abundance of Amazing Music I only wish we had some better quality videos. With that said the fact that they're grainy and blurry is a sign of the times.

When Steve Stevens asked Beau Hill, if punching-in line by line was normal, for all the singers he recorded, he said, "Yes". He then asked, "Even the guy from Warrant?" To this Beau Hill responded, "No, he's a real singer." That about sums it up.

Man my heart aches for this time, at least we have the memories in these video's and it's like I'm there with them living what music was all about! I wish one day that people can come back together and make awesome music like this, that had more feeling and heart in the intro riff then all the new music out! R.I.P Jani

This song and performance perfectly illustrates my vexation at people referring to genres that never existed: glam metal and hair metal. Those were just terms coined to describe an image not a sound. Listen to this track, watch the performance, it's just heavy metal. No other sub genre. It rocks as heavy and straight down the line as Judas Priest, Twisted Sister, Accept, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Dio and any other bona fide "heavy metal" band. Metal is so wide ranging that it spans Uncle Tom's Cabin, Cherry Pie, Sometimes She Cries as well as Crazy Train, The Number of the Beast and Living After Midnight.

Jani Lane & Warrant at their peak. He exudes rock star confidence when he speaks at the start yet he does so while connecting with the fans, showing that confidence & humility can co-exist and remain in balance in the right soul. Then he just fucking kills it and gives a performance worthy of his confidence. Great, great musician and performer. I get the sense that if Jani was 5 years younger and he came up when music shifted to grunge instead of hair metal, he’d have still been a rock star. When you have the talent he had, you aren’t confined to the musical flavor of the day and your voice finds its way regardless of genre.

Jani absolutely needs to be mentioned in the "Greatest Frontmen of Rock" ...yeah yeah yeah I get it, most of the lists are "Top Ten" and yet somehow the singer for Disturbed makes the cut (different convo)...but I had the pleasure of seeing Jani in a live performance and I can tell you one thing, as I'm sure the archive footage can justify, that dude poured his heart into every show. He looked like he had a genuine good time doing it. He loved the crowd, loved the music, and loved being on that stage. I'm sorry to say, but most frontmen play the "part" nowadays. Jani fucking ENJOYED the "part". The crowd got involved - they left wanting more - they had his posters smothered on their bedroom walls. ROCK...FUCKING...STAR. Jani, you are one of the best frontmen to grace the stage. Even when you're gone, you make all of us want to experience the fun and joy you brought to the live experience. Concerts in this era are good, and we will still hold our fists in the air for all things that rock, but things just aren't the same as back then. We fucking love you, man.
