2:11 I remember you complained that screws went missing from the controller box in a previous repair, getting them as a pair now?

Luckily for the customer it was still under warranty as that repair would have been expensive.

I've had 2 Makita saws the second one was replaced under warranty after 2 weeks of light use. Then about 8 months later it stopped working again. I now have a DeWalt saw (never buying Makita again)

Class video as always mate, just wondering do you do tool repairs full time or what is your trade? What made you start tools repairs if your in a trade?
@shifty27710 күн бұрын
Dean, have ya had a wee butchers at the new 18v framing nailer? Tools n stuff on YT just got his in NZ. Will you be stocking it in the shop? 4.7kg bare tool! Also what is the crack with 230mm grinders for Makita... ? They have 9020, 9040, 9050, 9060 and 9070 series grinders all 2000-2400 watts - I know you recommend the 9040 for heavy duty work for the bigger motor but is there much difference between the rest if you sell any of the others? Thanks, thumbs up.

Wht brand of screw driver were those, with the purple handle?
@antoniomanolea268310 күн бұрын
I believe they are wiha
@Heisse_Huette_Cologne9 күн бұрын
It's a Wiha screwdriver with, so called, "MicroFinish". It's more resistent against oil and you keep a better grip while having oily Fingers. At least Wiha tells this. You can also get a set of it. Product number is 29138. I personally use the the ones with "SoftFinish" (21250). Very sturdy. Good quality. Can recommend this product.

Got a practically new Milwaukee 18v circular saw that a guy used for a couple weeks building decks and fencing and it appears to be a similar issue. The saw looks like new but the cost to buy the part to fix is not practical. Corporate greed has spun out of control, they've made the cost of repair on many big name tools cost as much as a new tool.

Funny, I still get makita tools in for repair and service that are 25 years old and used every day by trades men. They are the best brand iv seen that ticks the boxes. As long as it's not nail guns, table saws or kettles your after 😆

It's a shame controller boards are potted, i imagine the smd would of been pennies to replace. Just seems like a money grab having to replace the entire board complete with wire looms and often other components.
@deandohertygreaser9 күн бұрын
True, but then it wouldn't be much good on a building site as it wouldn't be water proof

Why did you have to replace the field too? Presumably damage, cooked from the controller
@deandohertygreaser8 күн бұрын
Makita have changed the part and upgraded it. The old part came as one piece, but the new 1 is now 2 parts. It shows how makita see problems and fix them
@petrokemikal6 күн бұрын
These controllers are the downfall of all brushless machines.. fail at a high rate and expensive too repair.. instead of encasing them, it should be a normal pcb with a heatsink on the entire back side.. then if it did blow, it would usually be a simple mosfet replacment, 99p vs 100 euro
@deandohertygreaser6 күн бұрын
i get what your saying and why. But that would mean its also not water proof, and wouldnt last 5min on a building site.
@petrokemikal6 күн бұрын
I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.. brushed motors were far more susceptible to water damage over a brushless motor, they all survived on building sites with bare bones pcbs all exposed to the elements for donkeys years.. the expensive tools had conformally coated pcbs but that was even a rarity.. mores the point its tool manufacturers following suit with the lock down of fixing your stuff.. dewalt getting rid of the retaining screw on the chucks was when I started to notice the shift to doing it for no good reason other than locking down the repairability..

Electronics everywhere is to downgrade quality and longlife of stuff. Power tools, cars, planes ...
@zaxmaxlax9 күн бұрын
@@sebcast7731 I've been saying this for years and im from that field. You can have nasa/military worth electronics but they will cost a fortune, meanwhile manufactures will save pennies by choosing the cheapest capacitor possible, its all part of the plan.

makita is a very expensive brand to give issues like that...reminds me chinese crap. one thing is certain: there is nothing like old stuff.
@dormstories10 күн бұрын
Makita controllers use weak MOSFETS and insufficient heat dissipation, this one is one of the better ones, with a metal enclosure.
@JuanjeteMS10 күн бұрын
Yep, old stuff still rocks! They are heavy, they consume more electricity but they are reliable and when they break most of them just need new brushes.

I've got one of these, for the size they are awesome but the handle angle aggravates a wrist problem. I went for the Mak 40V rear handle saw. At least twice as good and no wrist pain.
@ThomasTaylor-mz7ni9 күн бұрын
Agree I have had this saw 8 years, daily use it's awesome, it's for cross cuts and Sheet material not for ripping 4x2s etc that's where the rear handle comes in.
