Warren Buffett gave a very honest answer to a question from the audience about productivity and making to-do lists in this video, suggesting that many of these "hacks" are probably a waste of time.

The thing is that these guys stumbled into common sense business. It helps a LOT to do things the right way, when it happens to also be the easy way. You buy a good company at a price you like or you don't buy ANYTHING. You don't time the market or look for trends. You buy good stuff and keep it. You ignore ups and downs, knowing eventually it will go up and in the meanwhile you will collect dividends. You do business like that and half the battle is already won. And more than half the thinking. And three quarters of the stressing.

I think the big takeaway here is that he's not a normal person. He has a singular focus on what he wants to do and that's all he cares about. His attention isn't diverted and he has no distractions because he doesn't let himself be distracted because he doesn't care about anything else. The point is that, there is nothing you can do to make yourself a Warren Buffet other than saying "I have one purpose and I am going to be single minded about that purpose and everything else is going to take a back seat." He's not what we would call a "normal person."

I haven’t heard “bafflegab” before but I like it and will have to remember it. Useful, as long as you don’t make the mistake of labeling any description of any complex system that you don’t understand as bafflegab. Like when your medical doctor is trying to explain your options and risks for cancer treatment.

Don't stress the little things, don't make important decisions while stressed. Important decisions are stressful. Build a routine that eliminates the need to think, so that little things are not decided upon and stressful. Preferably a routine that incorporates things you like. Build a routine that allows you to go with the flow towards the things you want and like.

@Brohoyoslo
@Brohoyoslo Жыл бұрын
@@maalikserebryakov I disagree, it's not about productivity. It's about making your life easier. A easier life, by any standard, makes you more productive at doing the things you want or like to do. Think of it from this perspective: It's difficult to focus on the things you want to do when you're constantly sweating over what you have to do. Putting so much brain power over something fixed and unchanging is generally an anxiety inducing behavior. Anxiety, without good reason, is generally unhealthy. It doesn't take a genius to understand that an unhealthy and anxious person shouldn't be making important decisions. What Buffet suggests as a solution should be common sense. Let certain little things remain little. The best thing to do is to create a consistent routine that becomes as mindless as brushing your teeth. It's trivial-- you don't think about it and it gets done. He used himself as an example-- he just so happened to live his life in a way that was easy, and what made it easy wasn't something he was fully conscious of at the the time. He recognized that what made it life easy was that certain little things were trivial and became routine, this even followed for things he enjoyed doing. I.E Eating McDonald's.

it should be noted that warren is religious about time efficiency and work, he literally doesn't spend a single second on anything outside of purely necessary things for his work. He doesn't know a single thing about the knowledge we take for granted such as youtube videos ;), trivia, popular culture, cooking, laundry, cleaning, because he has never spent a second on it in his life. He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, doesn't indulge in food, literally not a second is wasted. His complete and total discipline is so normal to him he doesn't even know it!

they had inate skills and will. Your common is what ALL of the succesful people do, and they become SOOO efficient into it... they leave us in the dust. Always manage your ''downtime'' and ''no-productive time'' so you never waste time. Even when you tired and taking a break... start your laundry or do dishes... there you got more efficient. I like timers and todolist putting a page to hide all the stuff i am not ''currently' todo-ing thus focusing on 1 thing at a time within a frame

As an investor who scans the shore for opportunities, it does seem like that doesn't require much list making. If he was an engineer, or project manager, lists would be more important I feel. Most of my lists have given little utility, but then, most of the stocks Warren has studied have given little direct benefit. The important thing is to develop your thinking.

It was never about who Warren buffet is or what he did different then someone else. It was about being at the place at the time that he was and having the opportunity to make the right choice. You cannot learn anything from him or someone similiar. There is not much difference to trying to learn something from someone who happened to buy a winning lottery ticket. Being in the right place at the right time with the right opportunities at your hand and almost anybody could succeed, but you cannot force any of these circumstances or "learn" them.

You people praising little Warren need to actually work for him, be around him, and actually meet and know the man. He treats all his help terribly, his kids when young didn't really know him as he lived with his mistress and his wife raised them. And, the worst thing is; when he purchases a company, check out what he does to their benefits, salaries, and overall treatment of tenured employees. The higher up employees, even at low levels, if they are over 55 or near retirement, he dumps them w/o their pensions. He got rich by being ruthless, and only about the money. I wouldn't want to be him when he has to stand in testimony at the pearly gates. Forget his so called donations and charity, it's all to benefit him in one way or another. I've known him for over fifty years and even though for a while he was considered a friend, I saw through all this bullcrap.
