Some guitarists can make the instrument sing. Some of the better ones can even make it talk, but the greatest and the truly honored, can make the goddamn things preach. Far as I can tell Mr. Haynes can do just that. Incredible.

Well said. Always makes me laugh when I hear Springsteen's line in Thunder Road when says "Well I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk." Sorry Bruce, but not quite. This is how you make a guitar talk!

My son understood it till the day he died 2 years ago from alcoholism at age of 38. Title is on his memorial plaque placed on a bench in a flower garden I worked on the whole summer after he past away.
@frankmartin71345 жыл бұрын
Teresa-First of all, condolences on the loss of your son. As a recovering alcoholic, I can understand why/how this song would be mean so much to him & you. About 15 years ago, in early sobriety, I was " feelin' a little run down on my soul". I went down to the boardwalk/beach area here in Myrtle Beach, just standing & looking at the ocean, with thoughts & feelings just running thru my brain. Then I heard this song coming out of an ocean front grill/footlong place. Sounded like a hymn to me then & still does. I listen to it almost every day & on the days I don't I play it on the stereo in my head. The next time I play it (CD, online or in head) I intend to dedicate it to your son. I am certainly blessed today to be sober! On those not so good days, this song helps me suck it up & put one foot in front of the other! GOD BLESS US, EACH AND EVERY ONE

Soulshine When you cant find the light That guides you through a cloudy day When the stars aint shinin bright And you fill like youve lost youre way When the candle lights of home Burn so very far away Well you got to let your soul shine Just like my daddy used to say He used to say soul shine Its better than sunshine Its better than moonshine Damn sure better than rain Hey now people dont mind We all get this way sometimes Got to let your soul shine Shine till the break of day I grew up thinkin that I had it made Gonna make it on my own But life can take the strongest man And make him feel so alone Now and then I feel a cold wind Blowin through my achin bones I think back to what my daddy said He said Boy, in the darkness before the dawn Let your soul shine Its better than sunshine Its better than moonshne Damn sure better than rain Yeah now people dont mind We all get this way sometimes Got to let your soul shine Shine till the break of day Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul A woman too, God knows, she can feel like this And when your world seems cold You got to let your spirit take control Let your soul shine Its better than sunshine Its better than moonshne Damn sure better than rain Lord now people dont mind We all get this way sometimes Got to let your soul shine Shine till the break of day Oh, its better than sunshine Its better than moonshne Damn sure better than rain Yeah now people dont mind We all get this way sometimes Got to let your soul shine Shine till the break of day
