Lon Chaney and Lon Chaney Jr were both actors. Jr. played the Wolf Man in the movie The Wolf Man, and his father often played "grotesque and afflicted" characters, which would be in the same vein as a werewolf. The father also was skilled at movie makeup, his artistry in which has been called "groundbreaking".

Part of what made Warren Zevon the unique standout that he was as songwriter and performer was that he was a a master of combining these happy, hard-driving but bouncy rock & roll pop tunes with dark and/or darkly amusing lyrics. You should listen to his recording of his song Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me, which Linda Ronstadt made a hit with, and you should most definitely listen to his song Excitable Boy, which is a smiley/happy/bouncy tune with lyrics about a rapist/killer, but somehow manages not to be either tasteless or horrific.

I saw Waddy Wachtel in person once when he was touring with Linda Ronstadt. "Werewolf of London" was a classic Universal Studios monster movie from 1935 with Henry Hull as one of cinema's best werewolves. Lon Chaney, Sr. never actually played a werewolf. His son Lon Chaney Jr. was "The Wolf Man" in five Universal films in the 1940s.

Great, great songwriter, always with a dark sense of humour. He had a lot of wonderful songs, but for some reason this is the only one which became a big hit. Songs of his like "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" and "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" are 'cult classics' though. And songs like "Carmelita" and "Accidentally Like a Martyr" are beautiful.
