A few weeks ago I ordered your TT Setup DVD. Well I watched it today and I have to say it not only helped understand TT setup but it also had an entertainment aspect I did not expect. Well done and surprising in it's content!! 🙂

Michael, something I've been wondering about for a while now is physical audio equipment and its future with younger generations. I go to record stores and have been amazed at the number of young clientele buying vinyl, but wonder what equipment they are listening with? They have to purchase decent turntables somewhere but where? There are very few brick and mortar Audio stores left to audition equipment, unlike like the 1980's when I was a teenager. Are they simply relying on headphones and small Class-D amps with 2-way speaker systems? An article discussing this topic from your younger writers' perspective would be very interesting. Maybe Malachi ?

Most of these young people are not after sound quality. They treat vinyl as a cultural ornamentation for their personal brand and are more interested in looking cool to their friends, than caring about the music nor sound quality. Many of them are using sub-$200 audio technica turntables, or even crappy integrated turntables with built in speakers.

That’s fine, I used a Radio Shack turntable and 15 watt Receiver for years until I could move up the chain. Still have the records I bought back then. Every upgrade made those same albums come more to life. The information in those groves have yet to be fully mined. 🤓

Hey Mike you ding dong, you had Pink Floyd there at the end of your video, why did you cut it off!! That was the best music on this video.

What do you mean by "Music in this room was ridiculous every time I entered"? Ridiculous in a good or in a bad way? Because what we hear in the video at that point is "Muse 2 The Pharaoh" by Prince and that is a wonderful piece of music and if I were to test-listen a speaker for me, that album would definitely be part of my test tracks. I wish they would play more Prince at Hifi Shows...

I would say bad, I want live off the floor Jazz ideally. Over Engineered / processed music is not what I’m auditioning equipment with.

I think it’s the opposite of what I usually say when he walks in a room “more boring jazz”.😂.

Sorry but the Avante Garde G3 horns do not sound good at all! Lots of distortion. Sounds like you are listening to an old recording. Maybe it’s the room?

Michael when you said the music was ridiculous did you mean that in a young hip sort of way which is good, or in a traditional old guy way which is bad?
@markrowe88242 ай бұрын
there are notes in the video description telling you why he thought the music was "ridiculous"

in that it wasn't showing off any of the speaker's dynamic or frequency response capabilities...

Always nice to hear Prince =) …that said, what an odd selection. It's not particularly 'audiophile' in any way.
