The green building was Warsaw University Library. It has a beautiful garden on the roof. You need to take Marina there once it will become warmer. The brick-wall building is Elektrownia Powisle - XIX century power plant which was turned into a shopping mall with restaurants, museums, many events in summer.

When comes to Warsaw, I guess Ukrainians can learn from it about how to rebuild the city after war. In 1944 Warsaw was bombed into smoldering ruins during Warsaw Uprising and many old buildings were rebuilt from scratch, based on old photos and paintings. Partially probably that's why we want to help Ukraine so much now - back then we were been left on our own, and photos from ruined Mariupol or Kharkiv remind us of similar photos of Warsaw from back then.

Agreed. I'm from Warsaw and I have some family stories related to war. Seeing all photos makes me sad and now I see all of that happening in Ukrainian cities... it brings out the same kind of a feeling. It's the beautiful city being ruined by selfish people, for no reason. Yesterday I saw photos of Mariupol before the war and it was a really nice place...

A little sum up what you saw and what you missed: 8:36 the building as you mentioned is Palace of Culture and Science, building that is under construction is to be Museum of Modern Arts A fun thing to do there you can get to viewing terrace on the 30th floor for 20 pln and see the city all around, pretty cool view 12:08 this coastline is called "Bulwary Wiślane", it's long walking path that is super popular during summertime, it is also most popular party spot at night 15:01 this neighborhood is called Powiśle, thought you might be interested :) 16:49 this is University of Warsaw Libary building, it is in general pretty cool but it best thing is that it has garden on the roof with great view of the city and it's also great spot to take some trendy photos for instagram 22:58 you entered here Old Town part of Warsaw, most popular place with tourists, that scuplture in the middle is Sigismund's Column, look at the map where it is and see for yourself what you've missed to see :) 25:12 you were very close to hospital that I can recommend from bottom of my heart where you should aim to get in labor with Marina - look for Żelazna Hospital

Watched your video, and as a Varsovian, living for whole my life in this city I want to share with my subjective guide. So, as you mentioned Warsaw is the city of contrasts. If you want to get some modern vibes - definitely you need to see Rondo Daszyńskiego, Browary Warszawskie, Rondo ONZ. It's Wola ( Mirów ) district. The palace of culture and science offers a view platform for about 20 zlotys. For the best skyline - I highly reccommend Siekierkowski bridge. If you stay on this bridge near the right bank of the river, you'll have a perfect sight on the river, greenery and modern city skyline. You already have seen Plac Zamkowy and Mariensztacki Rynek. ( 23:15 and 22:24 respectively). Further north, there is the old town square. Along with Nowe Miasto, it used to be the oldest part of the city. It was wiped out completely during WWII (Warsaw Uprising namely). What we can see nowadays was all rebuilt after war. It is included in the UNESCO list as an example of a perfect reconstruction. The Old Town with Krakowskie Przedmieście street, Nowy świat street and other streets that stretch about 15 km south are known as Trakt Królewski (Kings' way / Kings' road). It is kind of axis with a lot of historical buildings that ends in Wilanów district. There is a palace over there with nice greenery area. (If you go to Wilanów it's also worth to see a botanical garden in Powsin). Definitely, DEFINITELY visit Łazienki Park. Especially now, when spring is arriving soon ;) I would definitely suggest to visit the right bank of the river. My friend is Ukrainian and he told me about bad districts of Kyiv. It's totally different story in Warsaw ( and in Poland in general). Warsaw is really safe city. I've been strolling around at night countless times and never got any troubles. Praga has bad reputation in the 90s but now it's developing as fast as a rest of the city or maybe even faster. When you visit this district you'll see even more contrasts, but it is kind of charming. Also due to rapid gentrification there are investments like Koneser. If you like brick architecture, you'd definitely like it. There are many more 'alternative' or post-industrial areas in Warsaw: Elektrownia Powiśle, Hala Koszyki, Fabryka Norblina, Nocny Market, Koneser etc. Also, the right bank also can offer a hidden jewel of Warsaw : Saska Kępa. It's a neighbourhood with a lot of restaurants and modernist villas from 20s. On the rooftop of that building with different inscryptions (16:48) there is a lovely garden - worth visiting. To my mind, the most interesting metro station is Plac Wilsona. On the surface, you can also find interesting stuff. There are a lot of interesting restaurants and architecture. Personally, I really love Żoliborz district (amd also Stary Mokotów - simillar vibe). Ochota - it's the district you're living in. I'd reccommend Park Szczęśliwicki with Górka Szczęśliwicka. Very nice park area. There's an artificial hill with a view on a city. There are plenty of good museums - especially Warsaw Uprising Museum. It teaches the history of this city, that was exceptionally hard. But it's interactive and really hooking if you're interested in history. There is a lot more to this city of course. But if I were to write all the things that are worth visiting, restaurants, museums, cultural events, I would spend whole night probably hahahh. If you have any questions, you can ask. I can also be a guide and show you something personally if you want :D

That's why Stare Miasto in Warsaw is usually called Starówka (i don't know how to translate it to English ;p), although those words used to be synonyms now Starówka is almost exclusive term for Warsaw Old Town and other cities don't agree to call their old towns this way. Conservation officer from Lublin said that Lublins Old Town is original, so it should be called Old Town and Starówka is something that was rebuild. 1. In future, if you will be looking for affordable apartment, consider area around Dworzec Wileński (Praga) - very close to the center and great communication with other parts of the city; 2. Cosy streets - Saską Kępa! 3. Outdoor activities - Park Skaryszewski, Park Krasińskich, Łazienki Królewskie, Park Szczęśliwicki 4. Personal tip - I love to discover suburbs, as I already live in Warsaw for 30 years and I know the city by heart (although it changes constantly), so you could someday visit Powsin Forest and Kabaty Forest, Wilanów and Sobieski Royal Palace (UNESCO heritage), Kampinoski National Park, Zegrzynskie Lake (you can get there by train, but you will need some transport to get around the lake), Konstancin (villas town in the south of Warsaw) or for a weekend trip go to Kazimierz Dolny! Super romantic, super cosy and super Polish :-) 5. When it comes to the maternity hospital, consider also Madalińskiego Hospital - as a father, we had very good experience; although it was pre-Covid, so the procedures are now more strict and they can restrict your presence during the birth.

1. The area with modern apartments you admired is Powiśle, and this is a really expensive area, probably now even one of the most expensive in Warsaw. 2. Marienstadt is not so historical, as you have thought. It is mostly the 1950's soc-realism, but very well stylized to look good together with the Old Town above. It is such a good piece of architecture, that almost everyone thinks it is historical. ;) 3. Praga, the right bank of the river is really interesting. First of all there is a city beach there, you can spend your time at the summer. Secondly, there is the Francuska Street, that is full of restaurants. The restaurants are mostly cheaper and better than on the left bank in the old town. Finally the old Praga, like Targowa-Street is specific, but rather not so dangerous as in 1990's. 4. Yes, you are right, the old town in Warsaw and the old town in Lublin are quite similar. But they are not typical for all Polish cities. Old towns in Cracow, Wrocław, Poznań are different. 5. The green building is the Warsaw University Library. It is one of the best example of modern architecture in Warsaw. It has a great garden on the roof. If you'll stay in Warsaw longer, you should definitely visit it at one of the warm and sunny days. ;)

When I lived there, I lived on the street Poli Gojawiczynskiej. It was nice from what I remember, the buildings surround a big park that I would walk through to get to school and back home every day, there is a street market nearby where I bought food every Saturday with my aunt, transportation that made it easy to get everywhere on my own. This was decades ago when I was in 8th grade and I spent a lot of time getting around the city on my own, so I'm sure many things have changed since then, though I checked and the park is still there, park sady zoliborskie. The station next to it is called Marymont, if you decide to go check it out. The street I lived on was named after a famous Polish female writer during/after WW1 and WW2. On the other side of Warsaw is Ursynow, which is more modern and some of my other family lived there so I used to visit that area as well. A lot of it was under construction still when I was there, so you might find many more modern buildings on that side.

The right side of the river is very safe. It is rather a "tourist curiosity" that it used to be bad there. The cozy neighborhood you are looking for can be a French street and the whole "Saska Kępa" district at right side ;)

About those smaller streets to wander around: - Definetly check out Ochota: it's a smallest district of Warsaw but it's cozy and very well planned and has a great connections to the city centre (especially Old Ochota and Filtry). To feel the vibe I recommend checking out Park Szczęśliwicki and a walk by Opaczewska / Dickensa / Urbanistów streets. - Because Warsaw was destroyed and they had to build a lot of housing buildings there are many of them in the centre, even in the historic sites. For example, check out the cool modernist building by Kozia 9, just next to the Old Town. - Right bank Warsaw definetly isn't dangerous now. Also, because it wasn't that much destroyed during the War, it has a few interesting places for tourists: beautifull St. Mary Magdalene orthodox cathedral, Jewish Mikveh, big industrial distillery complex "Koneser" (recently converted into the big food court) with the museum of polish vodka. However, these districts do have their problems, if you're interested in city's contrasts check out some of the not-so-well-kept tenements, maybe walk into the inside yards.

I enjoy a lot your videos. I love your style of exploring things, The same approach we try to do whenever we visit a new place. We walk around the city without a specific plan, just to soak in the vibe of the place.

I recommend to visit Wrocław as well. As to similar languages: find patterns, eg polish prze- is equivalent to russian perie- or ukranian pere- (?). Przy- is pri/pry. Finding patterns makes things easier. Ukrainian vocabulary is something between russian and polish, closer even to polish so learning patterns of changing prefixes and sufixes speeds up process of language aquisition.

As for little cozy streets, just traverse streets around Hoza St, Wilcza St, where you've been in this vid. Anywhere there, around Koszyki, Plac Politechniki, Plac Zbawiciela, MDM etc. A lot of nice little boutique cafes and restaurants.

If you can afford it their definitely check Powisle. It’s a really beatiful neighborhood, close to city center but really quiet at the same time. But it takes some time to find a good apartment there if you’re on the budget. Also, you can check Old Bemowo (state bemowo). It’s a small neighborhood located on the outskirts of Warsaw. In the pat it was a military only place. It is surrounded by forests and nature, but also well connected with highways, trams and soon a metro.

rightsiders often say that to deter noisier tourists ;) . And trust me, we have enough of them, having National Stadium in our neighbourhood. But you should visit rightside when it's more outdoorsy, and bars spill to the sidewalks: ul. Zabkowska & fabryka Koneser (shopping&leisure), Saska Kepa (the most boho/artsy part of Warsaw), and afterwards to cut a power nap on the grass of Park Skaryszewski :D. Tis just to mention a few... And thank u for these streams, your vids are full of info.

It's also not necessarily true that east bank is any danger to visit. I think it's worth it, especially Park Skaryszewski and Francuska street with its restaurants.

Aw, dude, you just missed the prettiest part of Warszawa by a few steps... That big red building you saw when you went up the stairs away from the river is the rebuilt Royal Castle, and opposite of that, beyond those cute houses is the "Old" Town, "old" in quotation marks because it was completely rebuilt after WWII. You're gonna have to go again. The Royal Castle is nice to visit as well. Also that tower next to the church where you came up has a small viewing platform, though the stairs going up are pretty steep so don't try to bring Marina with you, at least not now.
@agnieszkakowalska75642 жыл бұрын
The Old Town was badly ruined, but is you should not say it is completely new. It is on UNESCO list due to careful restauration what was left and that whole historic district has been reconstructed. If you look carefully, you can find medieval ornaments and even wall paitings. You may visit Warsaw Historical Museum at Old Town Market Square. Seeing Warsaw with your eyes- fresh like child foreigner was pretty interesting. Some comments I find very accurate😃. Thank you! I recomend you to get to know Warsaw history to understand it. Some people say it's ugly, but they are ignorants. Its beauty is not obvious, it is sth to discover. If you check Greek word palimpsest- it somehow describes Warsaw character. Visit Polin Museum. I wish you good luck and friendly & fascinating life in Warsaw.

Been watching yours movies for a long time, great you're safe now. And nice to see you like Warsaw (my city 😉). Right side of Warsaw is divided into two main districts: Praga Północ (North) and Praga Południe (South). Right behind the Poniatowski bridge you can see National Stadium and Saska Kępa (nice green district with lots of restaurants). Easy to reach with tramway. You might also visit Wilanów (Kings Residence) south of Warsaw. Beautiful garden and palace. Try to see Warsaw Uprising Museum and Polin - Jewish Museum. If you had any questions - just ask in yours movies. Stay safe ! Ciao.

They have many demonstrations at the Palace of Culture and Science / PKiN in support of Ukraine. There's a cinema there and they have many events there all the time. We lived in Środmiescie and being close to all the transportation and shopping was convenient. But, downside is that it was very loud at night, cars, people laughing, and a lot of music from the clubs. We moved away from the center for more quiet. I love how Warsaw is old and new next to each other. It's not for everyone, but we have made it home and are very happy here. If it's not where you intend to stay for long, I hope you enjoy the City as much as you can. Every time we go for a walk somewhere, we find something we haven't seen before, or walk upon a memorial marker documenting something that happened here. Notice, there are always fresh flowers and lit candles at these, Warsaw is a city that has not forgotten, the memories are very fresh here.

Funny that you would mention the noise at night.... as a child I fell asleep to those sounds and to me tramwaje, cars , people talking and laughing, even sound of high heels on the sidewalks were truly music to my ears...

For a more quiet hood check out Saska Kepa, Zoliborz and Stare Miasto. Incidentally, theyre also some of the best places to live in. As for Praga - across the river - it is definitelly visitable, especially for someone with your attitude. Its a bit run-down partially, but hugely interesting for a walkaround. It used to be somewhat dangerous but that was years ago, these days its getting gentrified faster than any other disctrict I guess. Once there, make sure to visit Koneser - an ex-vodka factory turned business-hub/restaurant/launge area. As for the randomness of the architecture - you have your answer in the comments, its because the city was near-totally destroyed and needed to be rebuilt/build anew.

If you are looking for a nice place to live in Warsaw you should check Stary Zoliborz, that is roughly the area between pl. Inwalidów and pl. Wilsona and also Saska Kępa on the other side of the river along ul. Francuska. Both have good public transport, are very green, have pretty parks, good restaurants, cafes etc. Saska Kępa in particular has a few embassies so there is cosmopolitan feel to it.
