this is one of the most incredible things i've ever seen or heard. my choir director emphasizes faces, feeling the music, but this... this is far beyond anything i could've dreamed of.

Didn't dawn on me till after that the silent section is how the profoundly deaf person "hears" the piece. Amazing performance choice.

That made me tear up!!
@elizabethgross89183 жыл бұрын
I think this raises an interesting question, because honestly... is it? When a hearing person watches that section of the piece, we are conscious of what's "missing." Some of us may even be hearing the music in our heads as we watch. But a profoundly deaf person who has been profoundly deaf since birth may not even be conscious of that gap. They know there's a difference, of course, between how we experience the world and how they do, but they've never experienced sound and therefore don't have any reason to consider anything to be "missing" (aside from visual cues like the singers' breathing and mouth shapes). I don't think it's really possible for hearing people to experience the world that way. We are always aware of sound, even when it isn't present.
@johnhunter11983 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethgross8918 As a performer in the Buffalo Philharmonic, we played annual Xmas concerts at the St Mary's school for the deaf. As a 20-something, it seemed ridiculous at first. Many were profoundly deaf, and it almost seemed like a publicity stunt, since I was young and it was cool to be jaded. However, my section leader went up front to the audience, and a kid who never made sounds to communicate felt the clarinet while it was played and made sounds herself. Then, the crowd signed along with the Christmas carols we played, whose texts were placed on the overheads (remember those?). They were quite in rhythm, which initially surprised me, then overwhelmed me. Of the hundreds of Xmas concerts I played in my career, it's a singular memory.

Not only was the performance amazing, not only was the involvement of everyone (both in singing and in signing) perfect and to the point, the moment where everyone fell silent and only signed? Least we Forget... The 1st thought came into my mind while listening to this was my Grandmother's stories she use to share with me ............. One of the most profound stories was : The red stripes on the American flag represented the blood that use to run down their faces after getting beat by the police , ....... The stars was what they seen when they got hit in their head with the sticks........ and the white part was the obvious : She said don't ever give allegiance to a flag that ( HATE ) you , give allegiance to " THE MOST HIGH GOD " who will deliver you from the hand of your enemy and land of captivity ./ but the Lord laughs them to scorn And they shall afterward become dishonored corpses and an unceasing mockery among the dead,. For he shall strike them down speechless and prostrate and rock them to their foundations; They shall be utterly laid waste and shall be in grief and their memory shall perish.

@annamarion97 Жыл бұрын
Sammie (in front) studied ASL and spent months developing a “story” through signs with two ASL teachers and interpreters. It is not inappropriate to perform in other languages, even if nobody else in the room understands them! ☺️

Bravi! Incroyable! 👏🏻 Do the ASL "movements" only communicate to anglophones? (There would not be any deaf language "speakers" in our audiences here in France.) But, I want to do this song with my gospel choir in Rueil-Malmaison. The silent Refrain is quite effective. But we can surely learn the other Choreographie & claps.

ASL is based on French, but it is now definitely "American" Sign Language. Other countries have their own sign languages.

There shall be those who seek refuge in coin whose end is bitter cold. There shall be those who seek refuge in pleasures of the flesh whose end is ashes. There shall be those who seek refuge in the spirit who shall dwell in glory immemorial. For this day when you awaken Behold you no longer dwell among the son's of man the land of the living Behold the heavens, the heaven of heavens See the vast span of eternity before you, his mighty works magnificent, glorious, unending, enduring See his hosts, minions upon minions giving glory offering praises Set your gaze Look, the sons of man upon the earth in prayer offering sweet praise what joy what peace bestowed upon them eternal life from on high what mortal can fathom his mercy reaches from end to end, all creation serves him When God, in the beginning, created man, he made him subject to his own free choice. If you choose you can keep the commandment; it is loyalty to do his will. There is set before you fire and water; to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand. Before man are life and death, whichever he chooses shall be given him. Immense is the wisdom of the LORD; he is mighty in power and all-seeing. The eyes of God see all he has made; he understands man's every deed. No man does he command to sin, to none does he give strength for lies.. let the last word be , he is all in all ! Let us praise him the more, since we cannot fathom him, for greater is he than all his works; Awful indeed is the LORD's majesty, and wonderful is his power. Lift up your voices to glorify the LORD, though he is still beyond your power to praise; Extol him with renewed strength, and weary not, though you cannot reach the end: For who can see him and describe him? Or who can praise him as he is? Beyond these, many things lie hid; only a few of his works we seen. And to those who revere him he gives wisdom. Sing Hallelujah .............. Jesus O Savior I know not if you are real Come Come live in me .. Save me ! Amen and Amen Revelations 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say. "Come." Let the hearer say, "Come." Let the one who thirsts come forward, and the one who wants receive the gift of life giving water.
