The trebuchet at Warwick Castle is the largest catapult in the world.
In June 2005, Warwick Castle became home to one of the world's largest working siege engines. The trebuchet is 18 metres (59 ft) tall, made from over 300 pieces of oak and weighs 22 tonnes (24 short tons).[57] The machine was built with by drawings of the Danish museum Middelaldercentret, who were the first to recreate a fully functioning trebuchet in 1989.[58] It was built in Wiltshire with expertise from the Danish Museum[59][60] and is now situated on the riverbank below the castle. It takes eight men half an hour to load and release,[61] the process involves four men running in 4 metres (13 ft) tall wheels to lift the counterweight, weighing 6 tonnes (7 short tons) into the air. It is designed to be capable of hurling projectiles distances of up to 300 metres (980 ft) and as high as 25 metres (82 ft) and can throw projectiles weighing up to 150 kilograms (330 lb).[61] On 21 August 2006, the trebuchet claimed the record as the most powerful catapult of its type when it sent a projectile weighing 13 kilograms (29 lb) a distance of 249 metres (817 ft) at a speed of 260 kilometres per hour (160 mph), beating the previous record held by the trebuchet at Middelaldercentret in Denmark.[62]

This trebuchet is dope because of the time period it is from. The narrative enhances the story that the trebuchet tells of its creators and operators from our long gone history. I thought the wheel winder's tragic monologue was especially moving, no pun intended.

Given Projectile mass 13 kg Velocity 72.2 m/s KE=0.5(13kg)(72.2m/s)^2= 33,883.46 J 7 short ton (7* 907kg ) =6,349Kg Height of counter weight 6 meters approximately ( maybe 1.5 diameters of the squirrel wheel) PE=6349kg *9.8m/s^2*6m =373,321.2J Or 9% efficiency quite low !

that version would have been to slow and to heavy and impractical to use for war. i think they used a rope spring type that was much more moveable.

You aren't going to be sniping units with that thing unless its already set up in a fortification and happens to be sitting in the right direction. This is meant to pound enemy fortifications or rarely, aim at immobile siege engines. It is accurate enough to do so.

Ahh they are unloading the rope. Not sure why they this cant be done in the same motion. I guess if you have the rope twisted twice over the axle and then pull at the end while they run to the left side. You use the same motion for pulling the liver down but can also unload the rope immediatly, much faster ;)
