Was 1975 the worst year for Mercedes ?

My 76 w116 has over 200k miles and keeps going (the odometer is broken) it runs and drives better then most vehicles I come across but It’s hard to do all the maintenance yourself if your not mechanically inclined

I have the 75 450 SLC and I agree that it is a tough year due to the economy at that time, especially in Calif. So Ca being who they are, required the Catalytic Convertors making an already easy to get hot D-Jetronic system worse. I am lucky because mine has been taken care of by the previous owners, no rust it was garage kept and covered. They took great care of all the required maintenance. I don't drive it hard, if I go for a long drive I know to stop and visit for a while because it does better to let it cool off. Then off I go again. I do all my own work so far, will not hesitate to take it in to a professional if I need too. But I got Pierre and his Mercedes Classics channel to help me out. I just drove my 1975 450SLC from Texas to New York to Palm Beach. I had issues but I think I can contain them … I hope.

My 450SE was built in late 1976. It gets 20mpg on fuel. We didn’t change to unleaded fuel until the mid 1980’s. Yes, I live in Australia.

74 75 , 74 with the therma reactor at exhaust manifolds , 75 with catalyst at exhaust manifolds . 76 with cis got better .

I have 280c 1975 I was lucky that all or most of the emissions control units are taken out. Its so hard to get the solex 4a1 working as expected. I might want to send it to your shop so probably you can help me. The mechanics here are lousy no one wants to work on it.

76 450sl is a great year once you backdate the exhaust. Simple gen 1 Kjet, manual AC, bolt on the earlier manifolds and enjoy cat-less factory exhaust

75 Cadillac and we got instead was a disappointment compared to 1966 model we traded. Bad time for all cars
