Been waiting to see this kind of project for years! What a great family car. There are quite a few tri-five 4-doors out there that have been passed over because they don't fit into the 'ideal' tri-five box. Has anyone ever attempted to minimize the appearance of the B and C(?) pillars by giving them a coat of flat black paint, producing a faux hardtop? Maybe shave the back door handles? However you finish this is gonna be just fine.

I live just a little bit north of you and back in 1955 when that car came out there were a lot of dirt roads here and when you changed your oil you would also grease the fittings underneath the car and have a little excess grease left on the fittings, when you drove on dirt roads the goop would accumulate over time and what you were cleaning was what it became

You have the same idea I have had for years. We used to pass over more door tri fives. I have wanted to do one with just a stock small block and t350 just to cruise. Kind of what we would have done back in school. We had a '55 same color as this one in the pasture back in the '70's. That has always been the car I wanted to build. Good luck! I will be watching you build my dream!

Yes sir, you can tell that is a Georgia vehicle with that red clay (course it also could be any car down here in the southern states). It will take some elbow grease to clean up that frame and such. You may find that the firewall can be cleaned up and reveal the original factory paint. I have some Chevrolet rucks (69 through 72) and one of them I cleaned the firewall and polished it out rather than paint it. To me it looks better and it is after all original paint. That car will make a nice cruiser. I had a 56 Chevrolet six cylinder three speed and out on the interstate I would wind that six up tighter than dick's hat band. I put a .060 over 283 in it (hopped up0 and it crised the interstate with no problem.Tight suspension and good tires and it rode well. These cars are just right for highway driving🥸👍👍

I put a Blue print 350 in my 55. The dip stick is on the right hand side. Its under the 55 battery tray so you cant pull it. Instead of mounting the battery in the trunk I used a 57 Chevy battery tray, and mounted the battery along side the pass side fender. Took some fabing, but it looks good, and I dont have 15 foot long battery cables.

I saw that build up before. If you live on a dirt road and they oil the road throughout the years, that's what it does to a vehicle. It's dirt and I believe creosote that they use on the dirt roads to keep the dust down the The car probably lived its whole life on a dirt road

Ridiculous (IMO) to discount or overlook the 4 doors of any of these. As good 2 door candidates become harder and harder to find, these are excellent options and if you've got a family you want to have enjoy the experience with then these are your best option on top of it! Personally, I like the look of the Tri Five four doors, as well as a lot of the cars of that era (and the 60s). I would love to have one, if I had the time, further knowledge and space to work on one. Looking forward to seeing where this goes and I'm glad you'll be able to enjoy it!
