Was 2024 A BAD Year for Gaming ?

2024, oh brother, the year where the troubles in this world made gaming seem so small. I played MGS2:SS (1990) this year for the first time. By the end of that one, it was Apocalypse Now!(1979). Luckily, creators like Kojima were able to successfully get across just how a new dimension creating, consuming and relating to gaming and the arts can come about. Now, he may have worked it out a bit, but its up to new generations to really make it happen.

In all honesty, I felt like 2024 was a rather mediocre year for gaming, too. Don't get me wrong, I can still recognize which projects are sure-fire GOTY contenders even if I haven't played them myself (Helldivers 2, Space Marine 2, Wukong, etc.) but the overall quality of the gaming experience this time around was still just subpar. Regarding which games I see being candidates for GOTY of 2025, I already have eyes for Grand Theft Auto 6, Ghost of Yotei, Crimson Desert, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Doom: The Dark Ages. All those titles sound hype to me.

Sonic X Shadow Generations was the best game I played this year, and I wish I could've played FF7 Rebirth.

Thought it was great, Hades 2 and Baletro were standouts, excellent games. Elden ring dlc was good, far to difficult but still good. Triple A games were lacking, but I would say they have been lacking for a good while. Indie games is were it's at in my opinion, simple cheaper but far more addictive and fun than the big companies are doing. Hades 2 is an early access game and still far more fun than most titles I've played. As for bad games, can't say as I avoided them. Will never ever play that suicide squad trash, thats an example of a waste of money and time right there.

Yeah 2024 was mid. Granted, I'm a Nintendo guy, so most of the GotY games I've never played, but most I've looked into to some degree. Really says a lot when my favorite game this year is a game I haven't even picked up myself (that game being ANIMAL WELL, which is on track to win Independent Game of the Year). I've not picked up Echoes of Wisdom. Felt that the game just didn't fill certain boxes that I wanted it to. No new Pokemon game yet. No new Fire Emblem yet. Metroid Prime 4 is still expected. Only good Mario game released is the Party one, which is still a mixed bag for me. And no new Kirby game (granted, the last new one that they made was horsecrap, despite the reviews).
