@ishmaelvilmenay33406 ай бұрын
Well to be fair, Yugioh is like making a deal or transaction. Killing your opponents won’t resolve anything basically for ultimate power and more you have to complete certain steps for said contract to be resolved. Hence why Kaiba wanted to duel little Yugi to put him in enough danger so the pharaoh could respond. One last thing. Dueling is about proving your the best, ego and pride is heavily involved so therefore you have to duel, this is the whole gimmick of the world of Yugioh. That’s why we duel in real life for the title of KOG, but also for fun.

Kaiba is a reincarnation of Priest Seto. This makes him also, by technicality, "The Pharoah." The technology helped, but Kaiba magically summoned Obelisk. Kaiba did not use technology to bring back Obelisk at all, except using his jet to get there lol The Egyptian Gods will come to the Pharoa's aid. It's only because it was the resting place of the Millennium Items. That flash in his eyes signifies him calling out for Obelisk. it makes more sense in the sub, where the translation is "call out" instead of "summon." In my head I imagine Obelisk telepathically going "Kaiba! Good to see you-- Oh you need me to throw some hands? I'm down."
@thedarkspirit50846 ай бұрын
@@XXMatt0040XX I had this exact thought process too. The sub really does help fill in how he summoned Obelisk. The sub shows Kaiba having the same inner monologue like his dub but he was feeling more regret than angry he's about to die and he's close to finishing his project. In the dub, when he sees Atem, he says, "I will Duel him again!" The sub, when he sees Atem, he whispers, "Yugi..." I felt like Atem symbolically giving the thumbs up was like his acknowledgement. "Go ahead Kaiba, use the Gods. You have every right to do so... Obelisk is hearing your plea, Kaiba.."
@TheRibottoStudios6 ай бұрын
I love that despite NOT wanting the Pharaoh to return, Aigami pushing Yugi to his absolute limit was what caused Atem to step in and go "You should go home now." I know some people have their grievances with the moment, but to me, it doesn't at all take away from Yugi's abilities. We've seen time and time again how good of a duelist he is. Atem stepping in kind of reminds me of how Yugi stepped in when Atem was battling Gansley in the Virtual World Arc. Atem was taking hit after hit, and one more might have exhausted him to the point of not being able to continue. That's exactly what happened here. Not to mention, with Yugi superimposed on the Pharaoh's face, it's a clear message to the audience that they ARE working together; just as they ALWAYS did. Plus, it allows for Yugi to finally be able to have that proper closure he so desperately needed. And I personally love that they didn't speak to each other; their bond was so strong they didn't need words. You know exactly what they WOULD say should they have conversed. Side note I really love the detail that Yugi's monster is what allowed Atem to special summon Mahad. A lot of people (myself included initially) think the Pharaoh just SUMMONED him from sheer will but that's not what happened at all. It is really reminiscent of how Yugi's final draw in his duel against Pegasus allowed Atem to bring forth the Magician of Black Chaos. It's quite iconic, and quite fitting. That these two are able to work in such tandem, that even when separated, they are as one. Also also I absolutely adore that Atem did not even dare let Yugi hit the floor as he collapsed. Love that protective energy. It never left. And it makes sense it wouldn't; that type of love for someone (however you want to perceive that love to be) doesn't just go away when death occurs.
@digunder146 ай бұрын
honestly when you remember that in egyptian mythology pharaohs are essentially demigod, i find it reasonable that Atem, under certain situations, can perform what is more or less a divine intervention, after all the series proved that gods that the egyptian god cards were based on very much do exist, and what keeps it from being a cop out to me is he only does it the once, he does not do it causally, he does it in a time of great peril to save his closest friend, as yugioh was more than a mere host for his spirit, he was his friend, arguably his closest
@ghostflame92116 ай бұрын
technically, mahad can summon himself to the field just by being drawn, so it didnt need clear kuriboh to do that. but yugi/atem still needed the draw power of clear kuriboh, so yes the parallel is still there and is quite a nice touch.

I like the choice of card for Atem to draw in defense of Yugi. Mahad is the priest who originally commanded the Dark Magician, and who merged his Ba and Ka together to become an eternal guardian for the pharaoh. Having returned to the afterlife and reunited with his friends and family, Atem has also reunited with the man who protected him in so many duels throughout the story. So, for his brief return from the afterlife, Atem brought along a friend to defend his irreplaceable partner.

@@nicholasberto575 Yes, "Dimension Duels" are honestly just a reskin of the original "format" of the Dark Games and their function. One thing I like; the Obelisk hits the field, it is NOT a dimension summon. Like it says in the video, Obelisk forces himself onto the board with his own power. The Gods will aid the Pharoah in his time of need. Kaiba, being a reincarnation of Priest Seto is by technicality also "the" Pharoah because Priest Seto became Pharaoh after Atem.
@jjhl6 ай бұрын
There is a narrative purpose to the spirit mechanic in Dimension Duel. Both Kaiba and Yugi always sets their monster to the highest stat, showing that they have great willpower. However, Aigami relies on monster with zero ATK (thus does not need willpower to power them up) that are then buffed with card effect, implying a dueling style with a very weak willpower (since powering up by card effect does not require willpower). For all of Aigami's talk about how superior Prana are and how their consciouness are 7 times greater than the average person, he resorts to cheat out his monster's power, while Yugi and Kaiba powers them up with their own strength. A telling scene is this sort-of throwaway line by Aigami when Yugi summons Gaia Lord: "You set its stats to max again?". This implies that setting max stat is actually difficult, and might even be common to see an average dimension duelist rarely able to get their monster's stat to max.
@firewolf950tfwgaming76 ай бұрын
Pretty sure that scene is more so Aigami being dumbfounded that Yugi would choose to increase his monster’s attack to the max as he knows that if Lord Gaia is destroy, Yugi would lose. However, that isn’t to say there isn’t any meaning to it as it could also be indicative of Yugi’s willingness to fight to the very end as when put on the edge, he’ll choose to fight as opposed to self preservation. Contrast this to Aigami where his cubic monsters let themselves return to the hand and field and so you can see he fights for self preservation which correlates to his backstory where he aims to take those chosen by the plana to a new world while also ridding the world from Bakura under belief that he’s still being under the influence of the ring/believing that Bakura was evil.

And if you accept that obelisk has his "unaffected by everything " protection, then i think its neat, that it can bypass the dimension duel summoning restriction, because its three monster summoning requirement isnt inherent to it being a high level monster, but instead is something like a cost printed on the card itself.

I always thought it wasn't just Kaiba being in the tomb that let him summon obelisk. It was Atem who gave him the card in that moment. Because the Egyptian Gods are all Pharaoh's servants. And Kaiba says "Yugi" before summoning Obelisk, noticing it was him doing it. Later on Atem also helps Joey, and of course, directly intervenes finally with Yugi. I know some people don't like that, and I understand their reasoning, but I personally love that Atem is still watching over his friends. Even Kaiba.
@serge2636 ай бұрын
I mean, if you pay attention to the final duel where Atem steps in to finish it. He arrives similarly to how the Egyptian God Cards do when they're summoned. He had ascended basically. He was of the divine by that point.

Late, but Kaiba is actually "The Pharoah" by technicality. Kaiba is a reincarnation of Priest Seto; who was Pharoah after Atem. Kaiba actually has the right to call for the Gods' aid. In the sub, "summon" is replaced by "call out." Kaiba is calling out for Atem (who is actually a legit God in the afterlife.) I like to think of it as the reverse of the Rod telling Kaiba to sacrifice Obelisk; this time it's the Millennium Puzzle giving him the chance. I also like to imagine Obelisk seeing Kaiba and going "Hey man! Oh, this guy causing problems? Let's throw some hands one more time..."

In the original Japanese version of the movie, Aigami's commentary about Obelisk is that it should only be in service to the Pharoah and could only be summoned by his will. The latter part being said as it zooms in on Kaiba's eyes upon Obelisk. Basically, it implies that Atem was giving his blessings to Kaiba here, and he is possibly interpreting it as Atem wanting him to succeed not only in this duel but to achieve his plan.
@XXMatt0040XX6 ай бұрын
Kaiba is technically "The" Pharoah. Priest Seto became Pharoah after Atem. I personally think the Puzzle itself did it; antithetical to the Rod making Kaiba sacrifice Obelisk, the Puzzle let him draw it. Of course, Atem is actually a God in the afterlife; so nothing I'm adding is mutually exclusive to your comment

Sam you clever man, you were trying to release this close to the airing date of the DSOD movie in Japan. Great touch and even greater video! I know these can be tough to make, but I think a good one to make down the line would be Team 5ds vs Team Taiyo. It is a very long duel, but it's got real spirit and it's pretty straight forward. Plus, it's got one of the best uses of the rules at the end of the duel that I've seen in any yugioh series

Three things i liked absolutely,about the movie: 1-Superb animations and incredible voice acting in the japanese dub (i got chills when deep eyes and Crimson Nova trinity were summoned with their chants, literally goes to show you the emphasis difference with other dubs) 2-Kaiba is not a rival..he is THE rival. Not many would commit to sacrifice something for their nemesis, especially those with a big ego like him. 3-Kaiba finally acknowledge Yugi as a worthy opponent, because during their duel,before the final attack he smiled..and it was imo,a smile of satisfaction,for both a great duel and a grandiose opponent. Im literally impatient to see the new movie and i hope it surpasses darkside and the expectations of something even greater 😊

About the Obelisk summoning. I understood that his effect overrides the dimension summoning requirement. As in, even in a Dimension Duel, Obelisk still requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon; which his opponent gladly put onto his field.

The Deus Ex Machina moments in this movie were great and fitting. Throughout the series and especially in the manga, Kaiba is just built different. When I saw him summon obelisk in this movie, I was so hype and had no problem accepting it narratively. Same goes for Yugi and Atem.

I really like these videos especially the opening and closing spiels "The Duel begins and ________ goes first and he/she draws. His/her opening hand consists of..." "It's ________ and he/she draws. His/her opening hand consists of..." "It's ________'s turn and the penultimate/final turn of the Duel" And of course misplays and alternate strategies... "I'm gonna count this as a misplay" Speaking of misplays, please upload the exhibition Duel during Battle City. "Was Marik/Yami Bakura About to Beat Yami Marik?" Although this Duel mainly focuses on digging for The Winged Dragon of Ra, I observed 2 misplays in that Duel. 1.) When Bakura played Multiple Destruction, Marik would've attacked with Drillago to destroy Gernia. When this happens, Bakura draws Puppet Master and since he has no Level 4 or below Monster, he's bricked so when it's back to Yami Marik and draws a card, Yami Marik can attack directly leaving Bakura with 1300 LP left. Another alternative play here was summon Makyura then attack Gernia with him or Drillago then attack Bakura directly with the other Monster. When it's Bakura's turn, he draws Puppet Master then set Monster Reborn and end his turn. When it's back to Marik, he draws and doesn't matter what card since Mark can just attack directly with either Monsters (Bakura 1300 -> 0) winning Yami Marik the Duel (Misplay - Yami Marik) 2.) Bakura should've set Monster Reborn before playing Exchange so that Yami Marik won't be able to take it from his hand should Ra be sent to the Graveyard. (Misplay - Bakura) Also a side note (although not a misplay), Bakura is noted for being reckless with his Life Points just focusing on digging for Ra.

In the second duel, if summoning Indiora is a quick effect, could Aigami attack into the Gaia without activating the Cubic Wave. Indiora is destroyed and Aigami takes 2400. The seeds are summoned back as Indiora was destroyed by battle. Then summon the Indiora again to deal 800. Attack again. Repeat. Granted, Aigami wouldn't know the set cards so doing it this way would seem much riskier than just using Cubic Wave. Duel 3. Just DON'T FUSION SUMMON...... Burn everyone for 3000... It is literally the safest play. Aigami already knows that Kaiba and Yugi play defensive traps that can just win the game from attacking from Duel 1 & 2. The only issue is the Clear Kuriboh (which Aigami doesn't know) would negate the lethal burn damage. However, if all 3 of them activate, the second Crimson Nova would burn both Yugi and Aigami for a draw, which i think would be a win for Aigami as Yugi would have lost? Idk. Yugi would still get Mahad for turn and win the same way if only one Crimson Nova activated? Maybe use the fusion summon to summon at 0 atk and not lose?

As a note, it's probably Unification of the Cubic lords was never the mysterious card, but instead it could be Cubic Defense, since before the Dark Cubic stuff appeared, he had no fusion monster from what we see In the last duel where he has Unification, I think the mysterious card is probably Cubic Karma, since he has no vijam on hand it cannot be used, and the card he draws is probably Indiora Death Volt For Kaiba in the last duel, I think those 4 mysterious cards are: 3 Blue Eyes White Dragon 1 Lord of D Probably saved them just in case he can draw a fusion card

I love all of the duels in this movie, its like the perfect medium of yugioh gameplay in the anime. its not as complex as say late Vrains but is more back and forth than early Yugioh was. I think speed wise its around what games in Edison Format look like. Also a good variety of card usage (Fusions, Rituals, Spells, Traps), didn't feel like just ED spam like later shows kind of became. I'd love to see a reboot of DM more faithful to the manga, but with games more of this speed. Similar to what Vanguard did in 2018.

In truth, Yugi's duel with Aigami should have been proof enough of Yugi being a better duelist than Seto Kaiba. Seto saw that duel, and unlike Seto, who had the biggest bs draw in the history of the Yugioh anime in order to have a chance at defeating Aigami, Yugi had a more legitimate win without even needing an Egyptian god. Also, Atem definitely was essential in defeating the Zorc corrupted Aigami in the final duel. It was also poetic for Atem to summon a new Mahad card to seal the deal.

Some ideas for what the unused cards in the final duel might have been, based on the DSOD decks: Yugi, 1 card: Maybe something DM-related like Knives or Magical Dimension or another spell he couldn't use like Poly. Kaiba, 4 cards: a spell or 2 he couldn't use like Poly or Flute of Summoning Dragon. Maybe also a weaker monster or 2 like Saggi and Assault Wyvern. These cards or their archetypes were used in the movie and wouldn't have helped much in the final duel. I excluded traps as we normally see the characters setting those when possible.
