I am a Muslim and would say that Mr. Samuel is an excellent speaker, however, still he could not clarify the topic here. On the other hand, Mr. Adnan's speech and statements were more clear and logical. My respect for both the speakers.

Being a Muslim, I found that Samuel Green explains his point of view in a intellectually honest fashion. I think that Adnan Rashid had a lot of well-articulated arguments regarding the Bible

Samuel, in his first opening statement, didn't refer to anything from the Bible to support his position. On the contrary, he went on to disprove the Quran's point of view. I think it would have been better if he had quoted from the Bible to affirm his position as a believer in the crucifixion. I, as a muslim, do respect him as a public speaker and scholar even if he misrepresents or misinterprets my scripture. Just because he has a different point of view, doesn't mean I disrespect him.

Everything is done concerning his life before the resurrection. That is, Jesus is telling us that everything is accomplished relative to his earthly mission. With the Crucifixion and the resurrection, yes it goes on to a second phase. Mark 10 32-34, Matthew 20 17-19 In these verses Jesus announces his Crucifixion and resurrection. End of speech. Then of course you can believe what you want.

Totally agree with Adnan, there are too many conjectures from the bible as Adnan pointed out in his intro. Adnan also rightfully pointed out that there are no eye witnesses to the crucifixion hence till this day, we cannot be 100% sure regardless of what modern historians say. If we follow through literal sense of the quran verse, no doubt that Adnan's comments were far superior but I saw surprised to hear this metaphorical sense of quran verse that Dr Samuel Green spoke of which made sense as to letting the quran interpret itself and Adnan did not touch those points most likely due to lack of time.

It doesn't explain the contradictions found in it. It's not scripture twisting like Christians do with the Bible to provide something that isn't there. Also, I've seen where many Atheists don't even think the Messiah (whose name wasn't Jesus) never existed, nor Muhammad for that Matt (peace be upon them both). He wanted to commit suicide after the death of waraqa because none could read for him stories which he could tell people that JIBRIL visited him. Kudos to Samuel Green for trying his best to interpret the Qur'an verse which states that Jesus not being killed & raised upto God as being similar to the death of the martyr. However, the Qur'an categorically states that Jesus was neither CRUCFIED nor KILLED. He conveniently leaves out the Not Crucified part of the Qur'an and starts quoting Scholars, Christian & Muslims

There is no verse in the Qur'an that says "Jesus did not die". What is says is THEY DID NOT kill or crucify him. This is the same type of description as when the Qur'an denies that the jihadists killed Muhammad's enemies: "You did not kill them. God killed them." (Qur’ans, 8:17) According to the Qur'an, only Allah gives and takes life. The Qur'an claims to reveal the unseen, and so the Qur'an is not denying the historical death of Jesus any more than it is denying the historical death of those the jihadist killed in 8:17.

Having said that I would like to express myself by saying that no where in entire Qur'an you will find the word "martyrdom" or "Jesus being martyred" where crucifixion is discussed in Qur'an. You are connecting or assuming something that is not there in the first place. Quran is simply saying "They killed him not" ... By "they" it simply means Jews and the Romans who thought that they killed Jesus for sure. For God, it would've been easier to make such an unambiguous statement like "They killed him not... Jesus was martyred raised to heaven and shall return to you one day" ... Or God could have simply said something like... "Martyres never die so is Jesus" ... But this is not the case ... The concept of Jesus's crucifixion and the concept of martyrdom are two very different concepts in Islam .., if the word is not there then you must not assume. I enjoyed the debate though!

Oxymorons can NEVER be reconciled my friend. A contradiction in terms like the Hypostatic Union (Jesus being 100% God and 100% Man) is like saying a Man is 100% Good and 100% Evil. Or that a Married Bachelor can exist. Or a Square Circle is possible. No sir. It is Impossible, past, present and Future. The Messiah was SAVED as prophesied in Pslam 20:6. And he shall see his seed (he will have physical children) according to Isaiah 53.

@@Mukeet-Khan I'm pretty sure in Isaiah 53 he was referring to the Messiah's followers. And as I said, I'm not convinced they're contradictions I used the word "supposed" for a reason. You claimed that oxymorons couldn't be resolved in reference to the Hypostatic Union and the idea of a crucified Messiah. Yet in one of the very passages you cited, Isaiah 53, refers to just that. You claimed that Jesus being God and man was a contradiction like being a square circle. However, it is the best explanation of the biblical data. Moreover, Philippians 2 refers to Jesus as Lord and him taking on the nature of a servant. Thus it seems that incranation theology is the best way to explanation is dicotomy.

That is because the narrative came from 4 different authors who were inspired by God to write but did not receive verbatim dictation from Him, contrary to what Adnan tried to project and mislead the audience.

@@tameraly2680 Christians believe the Bible is the word of God in the sense He inspired the author to write it but did not dictate the verses verbatim. The author used his own literary skills and the scientific knowledge of the world around him to impart religious, moral and ethical values. So, the inconsistencies and other human errors in the Bible is not an issue for us Christians because such inconsistencies and human errors do not have any bearing on the core Christian beliefs and practices. There are inconsistencies in the Quran too. For example, one verse advices Muslims, " Do not insult those who invoke other that Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity, without knowledge". But another verse insults Jews, Christians and Polytheists as " Worst of Creatures". However, I am not saying this inconsistency has any bearing on the core teaching of Islam based salat, sawm, zakat.

With the help of Judas Iscariot, Roman soldiers arrested Jesus, and He was put on trial for claiming to be the king of the Jews. According to Roman law, the punishment for rebellion against the king was death by crucifixion.The Roman governor Pontius Pilate was reluctant regarding the punishment for Jesus. Pilate could find no wrong in Jesus, yet he wanted to give the people what they wanted, and that was the death of Jesus. Pilate washed his hands in front of the crowd to symbolize that he was not taking responsibility for the bloodshed of Jesus and then handed Jesus over to be beaten and lashed. The Prophet mention about a prophet saying "Umar ibn Hafs narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Al-A’mash narrated to us, he said: Shaqiq narrated to me, he said: Abdullah said: It is as if I am looking at the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, narrating the story of a prophet from among the prophets whose people beat him until he bled, and he was wiping the blood from his face and saying: O Lord, forgive my people, for they do not know. حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شَقِيقٌ، قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَحْكِي نَبِيًّا مِنَ الأَنْبِيَاءِ ضَرَبَهُ قَوْمُهُ فَأَدْمَوْهُ، فَهْوَ يَمْسَحُ الدَّمَ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ وَيَقُولُ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِقَوْمِي، فَإِنَّهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ The Prophet of Allah is referring to the prophet Jesus whom they beat until they nailed him to the cross. ------ (Tafsir al Nafi - Tafsir Wamaenaa Al- Quran AlKarim ,On Surah 3 ,Ayat 55 ,By Shaykh Nafi ibn Abdullah , Basra Iraq -1975)

In the beginning they thought that Jesus would fulfiled the promise. If you read the Gospel you will find how the Jews welcome him when Jesus entered Jerusalem. They shouted cheerfully, "Hosana! Blessed is that comes in the Name of The LORD." But It was not the aim of The LORD to establish a worldly Kingdom. Jesus said,"My Kingdom is not of this world." His Kingdom beyond this world. Their expectation was wrong. The LORD promised not that kind of worldly Kingdom. Jesus Christ failed to meet the criteriae of their expected Messiah. Even though, in fact Jesus Christ fulfiled all Biblical prophecies about the coming of Messiah. Until this day The Jews still wait for their "Messiah" who will reestablish the worldly Kingdom of Israel. The problem is the Jews refuse the True Messiah (Jesus Christ). They can not imagine that The Messiah should be suffering and crucifed . They neglect the prophecy in Genesis 3:15, Psalm 22, Isaiah 53.

The difference is in the areas in the New Testament where it contradicts the rest of the Scriptures in the Bible and in the Quran. (3:71, The Holy Quran) If the Holy Quran clearly says that Jesus (peace be upon him) wasn't crucified, then how can one twist its clear-as-day meaning (and from within it) to say that the crucifixion happened?! It's a clear contradiction, but unfortunately I fear it's easy for someone to not to see that if they've live a long life accustomed to it being a norm and found no way to escape from it. Psalm 91 certainly does promise God’s protection to the servant of God; and this is the relationship the Messiah has with God the father. However, we must read all of the Psalms and not just one. Psalm 22 is one of the most famous Messianic Psalms, and it says, My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. (Psalm 22:15-18) Psalm 22 says that the Messiah will suffer and be laid “in the dust of death”; and it describes the crucifixion very accurately. So how can the protected Messiah be the Messiah who suffers this way? The answer is that when the Messiah comes he does not come for himself, instead, he comes to save God’s people, and he does this by voluntarily laying aside his protection for the sake of others. We see this perfectly in the life of Jesus: He had the protection of Psalm 91 when he was a child (Matthew 2:13, 2:19); and the care of Psalm 91 after his temptation in the desert (Matthew 4:11); but he voluntarily laid this aside as he offered himself on the cross in fulfilment of Psalm 22. Do you think I [Jesus] cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?" (Matthew 26:53-54) The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life - only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. (John 10:17-18) Regarding the Qur'an 4:157-158. These verses say that it appeared to the Jews that they crucified and killed Jesus but they did not. The verses do not say that it appeared the same way to the disciples and Romans. You are connecting or assuming something that is not there in the first place. Quran is simply saying "They killed him not" ... By "they" it simply means Jews and the Romans who thought that they had killed Jesus for sure. For God, it would've been easier to make an unambiguous statement such as "They killed him not... Jesus was martyred raised to heaven and shall return to you one day" ... Or God could have simply said something like... "Martyres never die so is Jesus" ... But this is not the case ... Had it been the case God would have made a direct statement in Qur'an about Jesus having achieved the status of a martyr and that he is among those who are physically dead but spiritually alive in heaven. May I give you another example in this regard in order to simplify this concept... In Quran it says that God ascended Jesus to heaven . Suppose an atheist comes up to me and ask me how a physical human being can go to heaven just like that?? Did Jesus board a spacecraft that travelled lightspeed and reached heaven?? Does Qur'an says anything about rocket propulsion?? My answer would be "No" not at all...This atheist guy may further ask me that which creatures or beings of God have the ability to travel back and forth from heaven to earth on daily basis that is mentioned in your Qur'an or Bible? Naturally my answer would be "angels"... So he may further ask... based on my reply or statement... Is it incorrect to say that Jesus could've been an angel who was sent down from heaven and as he landed he became human and when he left he again transformed into an angel with wings and flew away?? Since Qur'an does not explicitly says how he was raised (the mechanism behind this phenomenon)?? Since angels are mentioned in both Bible and Quran and they have the ability to travel from heaven to earth back and forth all the time? So why jesus was not an angel?? Why was he considered a messenger of God based on how he ascended to the heavens?? Naturally my reply would be that "You are right technically" since no other prophet left this world, Like how Jesus Did in Qur'an ... But based on our Quranic and biblical knowledge, For sure Jesus was not an angel (for numerous reasons). My analogy would be that the word "Jesus ascended like an angel" (similarly like the word "martyr" is missing in that verse) is simply not there especially in that specific Quranic verse when it comes to Jesus's ascendation . But for the sake of an argument one can argue with me that this atribute of Jesus sounds very much like an angel..and.. ...technically I would say "Yes" if you read other verses of Qur'an you will find angels ascending and descending from heaven all the time. But Angel's ascendation and JESUS ascendation are two different things and one must not confuse one from the other. In other words let's not assume the opposite is true...if you find Quranic verse confusing to interpret (when it comes to crucifixion of Jesus) then may I suggest that you to stop right there. Comparing oranges to apples is not the solution of this problem. It will further confuse you. It's not about finding "the missing link" here...confusion leads to Assumption and assumptions leads to fabrication, interpolation and concoction... So this would be the most logical reply that I can give based on my limited knowledge. So I hope that this simple example may sound more logical in the above case.

Regarding angels ascending, the Qur'an says that those who die in Allah's way are taken up to God. There is no need to talk about angels. As I point out in the debate and my booklet, the description of those who die in Allah's way is the same description that we find for the crucifixion: they only appear to be dead and have been taken up to Allah. In the booklet I show how 3:55, 5:117 refer to Jesus being taken in death, and 4:157-158 never says that Jesus was taken bodily. Again I ask, what does it mean that Jesus only "appeared" to be crucified and killed to the Jews?

Haw do you know Jesus died on the Cross. The torture Jesus went through is not in the early manuscripts it was added to the story to strengthenthe narrative. Jesus was not tortured or beaten, had his legs broken etc... Ponctious Pilate had nothing against Jesus but was strong armed into doing what he did. There is no evidence he was nailed to a cross again this is a later addition and besides the normal roman practice was to tie the person with rope. Naw Jesus was just tied to a cross and he was up for haw long? Just a few hours. Just what exactly did he die of? All the Quran say is they thought they killed him on the Cross. It looked like he died but he didn't. The sahaba did not ask any questions so there where no hadith to give further explanation. This idea of someone else taking the form of Jesus was an attempt by early Muslim scholars to reconcile the Quran with the historical accounts in the bible. They did not live in the information age and simply took what the Christians where saying at face value but of course naw we know the story evolved and the Christians added a lot and with this information you don't need any interpretation. You can just take what the Quran say literally. Jesus (pbuh) voluntary handed himself in he was tied to a cross for afew hours. It looked like he died but he didn't, Simple. I feel that you Christians only know what your leaders say about Islam. Look for your self. I'm not asking you to leave Jesus. Only to stop worshiping him and worship God the father. If God is triune and Jesus is second in the God head talking to people (Israelites) who previously received clear instructions about who God is and up to this day they haven't changed their view it would make sense for Jesus to make clear and unambiguous statement that he is God. Because the modern day Rabbis have alienated themselves from this view for obvious reasons. Jesus Himself quoting from David's Psalm 110:1 said " The Lord says to my Lord "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a foot stool for your feet." He asks the religious leaders in Matthew (24:41-46) that if the Messiah or Christ is David's son, then how come David calls Him Lord (Ps 110:1). In the end the religious leaders hand Him over to be crucified because He says He is the Messiah of Daniel 7:13,14 (in Matthew 26:62-67). The Jews considered it a BLASPHEMY for Jesus to call Himself the Messiah because to them the Messiah was God appearing in flesh - GOD APPEARING IN FLESH (earth suite). So His nature did not change. He was Holy (Perfect) & Sinless in every way. Only God can walk like that in a fallen world because humanly it is impossible.

There are a number of instances in the OLD TESTAMENT (Torah/Tanakh) where the Angel of God (i.e., the Word of God or Jesus) was also called (YHWEH) or God. He was worshipped & He received worship. For example, in Exodus 14:19 we see the Angel of God who manifested Himself in the pillar of cloud (& fire by night) separating Pharaoh's army & the Israelites. In verse 24 of the same chapter He is referred to as "Lord" in the English translation. But in the original Hebrew for "Lord" is "YHWEH" (God). You can check this and many other scriptures in the original Hebrew. It's easy because of the internet. You can check the Interlinear Bible. Or other sites of your choice.

Well the question for you to answer is why do you believe the gospels are a reliable source information. Why do you believe they were written by eyewitnesses. They don't claim to be written by decibels. Besides decibels of Jesus were aramaic speaking peasants from Gallilee. These gospels are written by highly educated, retorically trained greek speaking Christians, decades after Jesus. To say they were written by decibels of Jesus would be complete CONJECTURE. Whether Muhamamd came 600 years or even 1000 years after Jesus doesn't prove anything. If it can be proven that he is a prophet of God, then we must follow what he says. The problem is, you are working off of a false asumption. You assume that you have eyewitness acounts, and so you reject anything else. But if I had to pick between some anonymously written documents, and a proven prophet of God, I would pick the prophet.

You just talked about why it had to be written in Greek, but that doesn't answer whether they were authored by decibels, who were illiterate and only spoke Aramaic. BUT ANYWAY The Quran does not get the Trinity wrong, in Surah 5:116, Jesus is asked "did you tell the people to take yourself and your mother as dieties other than Allah." There is no mentioning of the Trinity. Today Christians worship Jesus and his mother as dieties along with God. The Quran doesn ot mix between the two marry's. This is something the prophet himself actually clarified. In the Quranic language people are often called the brother or sister of either their lineage or the apostles. So when the Quran says "sister of Aaron" it's refering to Marry (the mother of Jesus) who is decended from Aaron. Regarding preservation, unlike Christians we don't rely on manuscripts. Because manuscsripts will have mistakes and errors. Also you can never prove who actually wrote the manuscript, meaning you cannot verify if the person who wrote it was honest and reliable. Even if something is dated to be an early source, that does not necessarily make it acurate or reliable. That's why we don't rely our faith on manuscripts (unlike Christians). We have Isnad, which is the chain of memorization and transmition. If you ever wanted to change something in the Quran, you would need to change the memorization of the thousands of compantions who had memorized the Quran. Regarding Uthman, firstly Uthman was not one man. It was a committee of comapnions of the prophet who had all memorized the Quran. These were companions like Zaid bin Thabit, and Aballah Ibn Zubair and many others.
