If you judge him as a wrestler, yes he is/was good. If as a person........ .different story (Shawn Michaels was a douche for a good bit of his career, but did his job very well). And personally people cant judge him as a pro wrestler based on his mma career, that's like judging Brock Lesnar's pro wrestling career based on his short lived NFL career. Your next video should be if john cena was actually good, oh the comment section would be on fire! Lol

This "Actually Good" episode is fairly different compared to the first where "The OMNI Flair" got her stars aligned and was pitted against other wrestlers. I don't think this episode tried to answer the question was Punk actually good, but rather retells the history of CM Punk. It will be interesting to see what structure this new series will actually take, more of a history lesson or a comparison show.

@roodboy606
@roodboy606 4 жыл бұрын
He never forgave his own brother for stealing from their backyard promotion, even after he paid every penny back (and is still apart of today). It seems he’ll never forgive Colt (I’m not going to speculate on what happened) and they literally spent their entire wrestling careers together. If you can’t forgive your brothers (by blood or friendship) then who can you forgive? Its a terrible character trait I can’t relate to.
@dontmisunderstand6041
@dontmisunderstand6041 3 жыл бұрын
@@roodboy606 Forgiving people who don't deserve forgiveness just because of random chance circumstances like birth, that's both incredibly stupid and immensely toxic. It will hurt both you and them. I can't say whether his brother deserves forgiveness, it's not my place. Real family is not made by blood, but by choice. Not everyone is born into a group worth being a part of, but everyone can find one like that eventually.
@roodboy606
@roodboy606 3 жыл бұрын
Dont Misunderstand As I said with Colt I don’t know what happened so it wasn’t my place to speculate, just nothing I could imagine being bad enough to do that to someone. In the case of the brother you hear the story from all sides in the doc. It may not be “my place” to say but every other person involved with the situation forgave him. His other brothers, friends, etc. blood having nothing to do with it. So that point is invalid. My cousins on drugs and has stolen from us. And as of right now I’d never forgive him. But if he cleaned up, repaid at least my mother, his mother, his sister and asked for forgiveness I would forgive him. Nothing toxic about that. It wouldn’t re-earn my trust though. If I just let him back into my life and trust him like nothing ever happened *that would be incredibly stupid and immensely toxic*. I wouldn’t trust him further than I could throw him. But at least I’d let him in enough to begin rebuilding that trust.

I honestly don't really agree with this. I do believe Punk was 1 of the best in the world at the time, & while it may be nostalgia, I think he'd still hold up today. His in ring work is honestly on a level with some of the best workers out there. 1 of my favorite Daniel Bryan matches of all time was with Punk in 2012, & I dont think it can be argued that thats all down to Bryan. Yes Bryan is amazing & could drag the worst wrestlers to their best match, but it cant really be argued that he carried the match against Punk. If Punk can hold his own & shine in a match with Daniel Bryan, he can wrestle a good match with any of the guys going today. 1 of my personal dream matches is Punk/Styles.

Great video. It also proved 2 things; 1. Punk IS that good. All these years later, even after his return, people still chant for him. He’s been a topic in wrestling since he left WWE. That’s not overrated, that’s what a star looks like. The dude has it all. 🤷‍♂️ He’s been back a year, practically, and he had the strongest crowd reaction in recent years from wrestling fans, as well as sold out that same arena on a RUMOR. These points alone qualifies him as one of the best. 2. Wrestling fans can be VERY toxic and petty. He had every right to not only quit a job that was physically, mentally and emotionally killing him and then calling them out on their mistreatment of him, and other talents there. Any fans upset about that are either bootlickers for toxic employers, expecting you to “suck it up” in a toxic work environment rather than address the problem, or just pissed that a top talent left their favorite company because he was tired of the abuse and now they want to make him feel like he “owes” them something. 🤦‍♂️ People deserve to know the truth, even if you don’t like to hear it. Period.

So I'm writing in two parts : before and after watching the video Part 1 : IMO, if you consider that a wrestler is good when he's a good athlete, a charismatic promo and a rating draw then yes, I don't think you can argue that. Athletically speaking, he had so many great matches with the likes of Cena, Lesnar, Taker, Bryan, Jericho. As a promo, obviously the pipebomb comes to mind but his work as a cult leader in the Straight Edge Society, and what he did during the Summer of Punk was really good. And you can tell he's very popular, remember when Heyman came out to his music and the arena was losing it. So I think that, yes, CM Punk was actually good at professional wrestling. Part 2 : OK, I've watched the video. My opinion hasn't changed. I think his image has been altered because of everything that happened outside of wrestling with the legal issues etc. Him having a bad MMA run or "turning his back on the fans" is not an explanation to prove if he's good or not at pro wrestling. I also agree with Luke when people say that he would be exposed as overrated in the ring if he'd have a match today. Joe, AJ, Sydal, Owens, Bryan... all those guys can still have great matches today and they have the same wrestling style with Punk. So yes, I personally think CM Punk is good.

However you have to be completely ignorant to say he is not at least good, if not one of the GOATS in his time🤷🏼‍♂️

Here in 2023. She came back for the first time since Wrestlemania 39, and immediately got a title shot against Asuka after being gone for 3 months, and after Asuka was presented the new womens championship. Nothing has changed, and now I compare Flair to Goldberg as she just gets title shots by asking

The reason the fans have turned on punk it is a second rate Brock Lesnar now, and I mean that.
@dcknyoaho
@dcknyoaho 4 жыл бұрын
The reason that the fans turned on him is that they started to realize he wasn't coming back. The turn started right after he lost his first UFC fight and compounded after his second. It became full blown in the last few years as he has interacted with the public more and his lack of interest has become more and more apparent.
@christmansonpunk2927
@christmansonpunk2927 4 жыл бұрын
@@dcknyoaho actually he's quite nice when you meet him in real life. But as most people, he treats you the way you treat him. I honestly don't get why some people feel he turned his back on the fans, seems childish. Like the dude's just living his life.
@dcknyoaho
@dcknyoaho 4 жыл бұрын
@@christmansonpunk2927 I've never met him, but I don't have a problem with him either. My point is that the fans wanted him to come back, and if we're being honest, probably expected him to come back, especially after his UFC losses. Punk has done enough public interfacing in the last 2 or 3 years that I think people have slowly accepted that he's content in his life after wrestling and isn't coming back. Combine that with the changes in the business and problems with booking their talent properly, a return by Punk would probably fall flatter than WWE(or even AWE) and the fans would like. When I say the fans have turned on him, I don't mean that they don't like him anymore. I just think the interest has faded substantially. The fans know he's probably not coming back, and even if he does, it's almost certainly not going to be as good as it should be. Just look at what they've done with Edge. It's been good, but nowhere near as good as it should be, and it's not because of the absent audiences.
@christmansonpunk2927
@christmansonpunk2927 4 жыл бұрын
@@dcknyoaho I hope he's smart enough to stay away. I love him but I think the business has moved on and you're right, a return would not be good and would probs tarnish his legacy. I feel like people don't know how to let things go sometimes and clamor for things/people that were great in their time, but that's over. I'd be perfectly happy to see him in other media or even as a commentator
@dcknyoaho
@dcknyoaho 4 жыл бұрын
@@christmansonpunk2927 I think so too. With the way they treated him when he first left the company, I don't really see him going back as a wrestler; unless for an ungodly amount of guaranteed money. Besides, if he went back now, he'd be a part of the problem. WWE's biggest problem in recent years is that they continue to bring back the "old guys" and putting them in prime spots with big paydays instead of elevating more of their younger(and cheaper) talent.

This is a really good video, really well told and very well balanced. I loved Punk, but when I look at it all now, I agree with the burning the fans and having a hollow voice, that didnt back up his promises. And yo be honest I'm at the point where I am over hearing about him and his potential come back and frustrated that it still has legs. This is absolutely not to take away from the video, as I said it's a very well balanced view and I really enjoyed it. Cheers luke.

I can't wait for Luke's return after his paternity leave. Hopefully he has a lot of time with his family, and when he's ready maybe next year we see him again. I know he's essential for the running of the main channel but could we please have a regular/semi-regular new explained video, these are such a joy to watch even just for the Luke-ism. The camera cuts, the random garden microphone, cutting to him in his parked car always pops me 😂. You can tell how much fun he has making these and it is so fun to watch

Luke was as comfortable in this video as CM Punk is on the mic. Great Job man! To the Punk question I would say yes. I think Punk's style of wrestling is more suited to now than it was in 2011. I could easily see Punk mixing it up with the Young Bucks, Adam Cole, or even Keith Lee effortlessly.

He has ring skills most wrestlers wish they had and that includes wrestling and mic. He gets over well with the crowd, he can read them, isn't awkward on the mic generally and just flat out knows what he's doing. Look at his older stuff, especially very old stuff. He puts on a wrestling clinic. Look at him right before he went big. You had to be from Chicago to like him. As a person, it don't matter what anyone thinks. His haters will agree but as a massive fan myself, I will admit that age has taken a toll.

I love these videos! It definitely makes you relook at your favorite wrestlers and ask that question. I wonder if Luke will ever say that a wrestler wasn’t good. Technically, it’s all opinions. What makes a good wrestler? Their ring work, how they are on the mike, how the fans react to them?

The things always left out of the Punk conversation is AJ Lee. Punk got himself over. AJ got a *division* over. His politics and ego completely overshadow the call for her return. Imagine AJ being the Joker to Becky's Batman. Or just the bangers she'd put in with Riho, Shida, or Rose, the entire Impact Knockouts Division, or being the top of the ROH rebuilt women's division. But Punk's broken relationships with all those company's muddy any expectation of AJ hopes.

People who say he couldn’t hang with the wrestlers today either never saw or have forgotten his Indy run. Those Samoa Joe matches in ROH were just brilliant and remain so to this day. In reality he’d probably be even better with some of the pure wrestlers around today than he was with the sports entertainers he had to work with for most of his WWE run

Yes he was. He was great, and he saved WWE in the early 2010s. He was extremely believable- I believed he really cared about the stories, and the mic work he did was incredible. I think, if WWE had taken care of him properly, he would have had a lot of great years in him yet. But i can never look at him the same way again after Hornswoggle’s story about why he cut him out of his life. Man, as a person he seems like a tough person to be friends with. But as a performer, can’t fault the guy.

As a whole package, CM Punk would still hold up today. In-ring he was head and shoulders above most of the roster at his peak in 2011-12, but since then, in-ring work in WWE in general has evolved and most matches are above competent to the point of being sterile. In terms of his promos and being "real" and believable through his character work, no one could touch him then in WWE and I don't think there any many in America's top promotions that can touch him even today.
