Do you think Martin handled the situation poorly? How would you have handled being gifted something from your significant other that you really didn't like? 🤔

More and more each day I rewatch episodes from this show I start to believe maybe Gina was too good for Martin. Between this, Martin's insecurities about Gina making more money than him, and him completely ghosting her and his friends (to join a cult???)- Martin really wasn't all that nice a guy to be pining so hard after. I get he's hella funny but it aint enough laughter in the world to make me wanna stay with a man like that. idk 🤷♀

I agree with you! I think Martin is one of those shows that people find hard to critique because it's so beloved by us, but he was A LOT! When Martin and Gina were good, they were good, but when they were bad, it was hard to watch. Another episode that comes to mind is when they had to go to that couples retreat because the reverend refused to marry them until they sorted out their issues. He accused her of trying to change him then as well. IDK either. 😂

I’m married, and there have been gifts that I particularly do not like. But the gift isn’t the focal point. It’s the fact that my husband thought of me! So, no matter the gift, I show/speak my appreciation. It takes time to know your partner. Gina and Martin were still in the stages of truly getting to know each other as we watched them build their relationship. So, yes, Gina went out on a limb and bought a gift outside of Martin’s usual likes. But Martin is childish on his own and even more so when he is around his childish friends. They were unequally yoked because a mature man would’ve put his friends in their place and stood up for the woman he claims to love.

I agree 100%. I really think that Martin would’ve just dealt with the statue, even if he didn’t like it, if it wasn’t for the fact that he felt embarrassed in front of his friends.

But he did show appreciation. Technically she walked in on him mocking it but he never did that to her face. She thought he liked it

I think Gina was too good for Martin rewatching this in my adult years. If i receive a gift from my significant other that wasn’t my taste i would accept it because of the thought. Here are some fun facts: Gina’s father was played by J.A. Preston. He appeared on Good Times, The Jeffersons & he was in Hard Lessons. I think Hawthrone James (Big Red from The Five Heartbeats) should have played Gina’s father due to their strong resemblance.

I understand why people feel like Gina was too good for Martin. And I'd never even though of Hawthorne James playing Gina's dad, but I can definitely see it! However, I liked J.A. Preston as her father. I liked his kind of "no-nonsense" demeanor.

@@AllThingsGirlWorld On the pilot episode when Martin & Gina got into it, Martin had the audacity to ask Gina to make it look like he won the argument so Tommy & Cole won’t clown him.

im only 16 but i feel like their relationship had so many ups and downs, and i know everything isnt gonna be perfect but they’re relationship seemed so exhausting. i can’t imagine like being in a relationship like that it seems so draining.

I agree and definitely said this before. Like, I know Martin is for kicks and giggles, but I couldn’t imagine this being real. Martin would drive me completely insane. 😂

It looks like they didn't know each other. Both of them gave the other the type of gift they would want to receive. I find it tactless. When i offer a gift, it's of the idea that the gift is for them, not for me or what i would like. Gina was better, yes, but her gift wasn't that thoughtful

I agree with that. It does seem like they both bought gifts for each other with only themselves in mind. Gina likes art, so she bought Martin the statue and Martin also wanted to get away, so he bought them both tickets to Chicago lol.
