17:05 Very well said about Kratos as a character, especially when you take everything that happened to him in both this game and the other entries in the Greek series. I feel a lot the same way about Caim from Drakengard, TBH, right down to how he feels like a very human character, albeit very clearly not a morally _good_ character.

Another amazing video, MHB. You outdid yourself! I especially liked the intro to the video. I 100% agree with all your points you made. I always admire hack-n-slash games' fluid, "flowing" combat, just like you said. How with each move, Kratos builds up a barrage of stabs and slashes. To this day, the Blades of Chaos (and later versions of it) is such a unique weapon, literally fused onto the flesh and skin of Kratos. I can't wait for the GOW2 video. The beginning part of that game is bar none one of the best moments in the series. Something to think about: it's such a funny thought seeing this anger fueled, raging half-god stumbling and getting stumped by puzzles. Like, not even his brutality can solve those puzzles [for the most part]. It's hilarious!!

Your take was really good, but I’m surprised at how little you showed disdain toward the puzzles. Man, some of the puzzles were pure brutal. The rebuilding the soul puzzle, the towers of hades (with its huge hitboxes), the box pushing puzzle (with the thorns that activate after a timer), are notable examples.

I'm such a Greek mythology nut I really wanted to play it. But the PS2 game I bought didn't work on my PS2 (I believe it was a different region) fas forward a few years they release the hd collection on PS3. I have a PS3 now so I get both games. And it's awesome. My dad laments at the bastardisation of Greek mythology when I tell him what happens in the story. And while I agree it's so cool lol I still need to get the speed run trophy for the first game on my PS3. It's been over ten years and I still haven't done it haha

I grew up with PlayStation and PC gaming but a mate of mine I've known basically all my life was an Xbox kid. So during the PS2 and original Xbox generation I'd go to his place and play games like Halo and Halo 2 and he'd come over and get to play games like God of War, Killzone, Kingdom Hearts. The 360 and PS3 generation is where I managed to get my hands on both consoles somehow though, got pretty lucky with that and I've had both Xbox and PlayStation consoles since.

In my opinion there is quite a misunderstanding with the way people look at gow1, we are used to seeing kratos angry sure, but the man is actually not angry in this one game, sure he kills enemies quite brutally, but they are no more then beasts and undead soldiers, there is no cutscene or piece of gameplay in this game where he is angry or raging like in gow3, man is just sad, even while killing ares he doesnt brutalize him in rage, just 1 clean stab through the throat and thats it, even when athena refuses his wish he doesnt go raging or attacking the statue, he is once again just sad and nothing more. People overlook his humanity in the first game just because of how rage consumed he is in others, but kratos in gow1 is actually a man who used to be a bloodthirsty beast but ''reformed'' himself in time over those 10 years in between. He doesnt care for killing innocents he is no hero for sure, but he is no rage consumed murderer just yet either.

God of War is one my most favorite first installments of a game next to Halo Combat Evolved both of which I continue to replay to this day. I’m part of the minority that favors this over the first Devil May Cry, I found myself having a greater time in the final quarter of GOW as opposed to DMC where I had fun beginning to middle but that’s just me being inadequate with that game
@Bronze_Age_Sea_Person Жыл бұрын
I played GOW when I was 7, and pretty much every time I played pretend with my friends, I was like Kratos. Nothing about saving princesses or being a hero. I took things as weapons, slayed everyone and used their blood as upgrade materials for my weapons. I didn't help was a bit precocious about school's subjects and knew blood had Iron, and swords had iron. So the rest of my childhood, I imagined myself as a bloody warrior butchering armies. I didn't turn into a serial killer or anything, and the only person I slashed in my life was myself with box cutters because I often forget how sharp they can be compared to kitchen knives when I have to cut or carve something. Let's say back in my time, nobody really cared about ratings, so buying a pirated Mature-rated PS2 game at a camelô here was quite easy. TBH, people still don't care about ratings here.
