return to the house on haunted hill is a garbage mess. the sets are different, the house is even bigger and older and run down, catholical garbage on it plus the dvd gives you the "choose your own adventure" route where there is like 20 hours extra of movie just to get to the same old ending.

@@Scipio488iconic reply. If you’d like some more film science: the original invisible man is the most technologically advanced movie from its time. The way they created the invisibility of the invisible man was via making the actor wear black beneath his bandages, and they’d splice over it with normal footage. The mirror scene with him undressing took 4 different angles and shoots to create.

I had been watching a bunch of late 90s early 2000s horror films recently and the majority of them are so weird. Like there’s something about how the sets, the dialogue, soundtrack and so on come together that makes them come off with an almost comedic tone about it. There’s always just this goofy factor to them and it really takes away from the already barely scary films that they are.

This movie holds a special place in my heart. Not a good place tho. Our house was a ranch style house, so it was long and sort of split in two halves. We close off the front half when we go to bed, so its like pitchblack on there. After watching this movie with my dad in the front half of the house, we turn off the lights and go to back half when the phone starts ringing. But the wireless phone was not working, it was dead for some reason. And the phone is ringing but ringing in a way it doesnt normally ring, which was weird AF. 10yr me was like wtf. But then my dad goes, hey go in the kitchen and answer the phone but the phone ringing weird that part kf the house was pitch black and i just watched this stupid ass movie. So i started crying and my mom got mad at my dad for having me watch it. The weirder part is that i think my dad answered the phone and it mightve been a crank call cuz, ya know '99, but they were saying it was *75 (calling back a number that had called them.) Weird as hell. So House on Haunted Hill will always live in my memories cuz of that traumatic night, and due to the Jacob's ladder scene where the doctor cuts off thats dude's face.

To this day, the opening music sends my brain into a frenzy of panic. I think, if I'd seen it as an adult, it wouldn't be as jarring to me because it is kind of goofy. Now, a series that truly scares me is the original Ju-On films. Saw those as a teen, and I still get so uncomfortable when I watch them because of the silence and build-up. I wouldn't consider myself a Ghost Ship Fan (I'm a fan of Santos tho, so F in the chat lol), but it's the kind of thing were the movie has a dear place in my heart, so I'll pout whenever someone shits on it, but in my head I immediately go: "Well, you right...". It's one of the first "spooky" movies my Mom would let me watch with her + I discovered the band Mudvayne through it (their song *Not Falling* is like the most present thing to me out of the music of the movie). Would I consider it a great piece of cinema? Nah. Do I suggest making a list of shots-triggering words/tropes to get faded to with friends? Yea!

I wanna dislike this movie so bad because I love the subtly of the original, but it's just the right amount of goofy and gross with a pretty fun cast.

The way I see an actor I know and have to figure it out without google as a matter of pride 😂 the blonde chick with the red lipstick plays chases goth animal rights girlfriend in "Drive Me Crazy" and I feel so vindicated figuring that out 😂

I still confuse this remake with 1999's The Haunting remake when I think back on what little memory I have of watching both on TV as a kid. Also, pre-Pirates of the Caribbean Geoffrey Rush does NOT compute. DOES- NOT- COMPUTE!

So, they made a sequel. It really fills out the lore of this.. uh, hospital? IIRC it first came out as like a 'choose your own adventure' dvd thing but you can stream it in a complete state nowadays. It's a solid sequel.
