That is great! Greatly reducing the carbs, sugar (100+ definitions of sugar on labels) which are hidden sugars in plain sight. Dangerous seed oils and eating a more plain whole food diet can have massive changes to ones blood work in a positive way. Ultra processed foods are simply dangerous. Diet is 85% of weight loss, health improvement. Exercise, resistance training is important and a good daily walk will do wonders.

Steve this is great information. I also had high cholesterol but mine was earned. I was like a human garbage disposal for years and it finally caught up with me and now I'm adding more veggies to my diet and I'm back walking again however I'm not out of the woods yet. Steve I'm taking a day at a time and still enjoying my borrowed time here on planet earth. I'm happily in the "fourth quarter" of my life. I'm curious, are you physically active? I've noticed that a lot of physically active people often don't seem to even realize they are getting exercise during the day by walking, swimming, dancing, doing yard work, etc.
@Zaleska189721 күн бұрын
Good for you! I wish others would realize that what they eat is who you'll become. Even if you are not 100% plant based/wfpb that's fine too. At least 80% eating fruits/veggies will do the job. I don't know why others cannot understand how what we put inside of us determines how our bodies will be. People cannot make that connection, and if they do, it's usually too late.

I lowered my cholesterol by 15 points by adding 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal to my diet everyday. I thought it was too good to be true until a friend of mine had the same results. Plus flaxseed meal is high in fiber and omega 3. Good luck with your ❤ health.

Excellent for lowering cholesterol, ground flax seed (must be ground or will just pass thru your body) and also Chia Seeds are the same. Every single day you should have either one at least 2 TBL.

Steve, I had a mild heart attack almost 3 yrs ago. I had 4 stents put in. I have always been underweight all my life and was told to stop all sugars (I am not diabetic). I lost weight….. not what I needed to do. I eat veggies, fruits, chicken and salmon. Only recently I noticed I am getting slightly winded when I do yard work. I go in this Tuesday for an angiogram cuz my cardiologist noticed in my stress test 2 weeks ago, there’s an issue with the left side of my heart 😮. I am younger than you only by a few years. But my symptoms have been similar to what you have been experiencing. I appreciated hearing your issues/symptoms. Additionally, I too was told my issues are genetically passed down ☹️. Hopefully you’ll start feeling better soon. I hope I will too 🤞.
@steveinpalmspringsca12 күн бұрын
So sorry to hear that you’ve gone through this too and that you are still feeling winded. I was feeling a little winded too, but it turns out it was being caused by one of the medication‘s the cardiologist has prescribed after the procedure. It was also causing me major constipation. He told me I could stop taking that medication about two weeks ago and I no longer have the constipation or the shortness of breath. I hope whatever is causing your issue is something that can be taken care of simply and not something more serious. Thanks for sharing and best of luck. 🙏🤞👍
@user-spacrazie10 күн бұрын
Hi Steve! I had my angiogram last week (01/14/25). It was discovered that the largest of my 4 stents was 80% blocked. The other 3 smaller stents were clear. I won’t see my cardiologist until next week (01/28/25) for my follow up. I did see my primary care physician this week and both he and I are wondering how I got a blockage since I am on both Brilinta and aspirin. As everyone tells me, I eat like a bird. I’ll update you when I get all my answers. BTW, I am no longer winded as they performed an angioplasty to open the blockage during my angiogram. 😊 Also, I am so glad I did not require open heart surgery as I am deathly afraid of that……tubes down my throat, nasal passages, etc.

I'm glad you have a responsive doctor, Steve; that is so important. My mom had that kind of genetic high cholesterol; her mother died of a stroke and her brother and sister both died of heart attacks. My older brother also had to have stents. My cholesterol has been ok; I've also been a vegetarian for many years and exercised regularly. This last doctor visit I was told to increase the amount of exercise; I have gotten in far less walking since I retired. I have to admit that while I was a vegetarian, I also loved ice cream and ate waaaaaay too much of it. I have since stopped; it was because of my teeth began hurting from the cold

Hi Steve, That is correct. I have heredity heart desease also. I was told that it doesn't matter how much i exercise or what i eat, it will make no difference. It was really deflating to be told that! However, it doesn't make sense after heart surgery to just give in to that, so i exercise and eat better regardless. Hey steve, i once heard a cardiologist on the radio say that whenever he prescribed a statin for a patient, he always told them to take ubiquinol 150mcg twice a day and that helps with the muscle aches etc that comes with taking a statin. Apparently ubiquinol decreases with age. Im.in australia but its probably no different over there. Might be worth looking into. Also we are seeing the horrific fires happening in LA atm. Its summer here and we are in the midst of our bushfire season but its awful to think you are in your winter season and 6:36 sonething so horrific can happen. Hi Steve. Everyone in my family has/had high cholesterol and heart disease. I've been vegan for 14 yrs, and haven't had red meat since I was 17. My cholesterol is normal, but due to family history, they want it super low. I take 2.5mg of rosuvastatin. You workout alot, and that should make your HDL even higher. Perhaps it was lowered because you weren't walking as much after your surgery. I wish I was born into a different family. I also go every 6 years or so for a calcium scoring scan. I'm due soon. I hope the new meds help. Wishing you the best. ❤❤

Wow! Can you imagine where you'd be without eating healthy and exercising??? I saw a cardiologist a few times last year and I had low bad AND low good cholesterol, like you just explained you're dealing with, for the first time. She actually told me to find a good quality olive oil, and if I don't get at least a tablespoon or more of olive oil in my diet, drizzle on top of salad, dip your toast instead of butter (I usually just eat dry toast). If I don't get the olive oil in my diet, just pour a spoonful and down it. I actually had very little fat in my diet, but we will see at my next labs.

Olive oil and avocados are two foods that have been shown to reduce LDL and raise HDL cholesterol. They are high in oleic acids and polyphenols, which are very beneficial to the body. When buying olive oil, always look for a single origin, first cold pressed oil that has been harvested within the past 12 months. Cobram Estate 100% California and the Walmart Great Value Brand 100% California are great choices.

My doctor told me to eat in moderation, meat, chicken. I’m a diabetic and it’s controlled. I took simvastatin about 20 years ago and suffered from severe debilitating muscle craps. On every part of my body. I complained to my then doctor and he told me simvastatin had nothing to do with it. I researched it and studies said it did cause the cramps. So I dumped that doctor and found another doctor that listened to me and he tested me and told me to stop the simvastatin. To this day I have permanent muscle damage. I resumed taking another med for cholesterol. A very low dose and it works fine now. So when a doctor doesn’t listen to you it’s time to get another one.

It was kind of a lot of ice cream? But also maybe dairy isn’t something you process well? You know, you’re doing great. My dad cared for his heart attack with diet just like you, and he never had another. My ancestry is Russo-Mongolian. My ancestors ate a 90% meat diet. 😂 I can’t even give up red meat. My cholesterol and triglycerides can go high, but I don’t get plaque in my arteries. I’m more careful now that I’m older, but it’s still true. Some people get better with a vegetarian diet, some get better on carnivore, and you have to admit when things are or are not working. I can eat nothing but meat, and I’m as regular as rain. Maybe you need fish though too? Very super healthy fats, might settle everything. But you listen to your body, thank God, most men don’t. I know you’re going to find the perfect balance. You are a good self advocate.

Perhaps that's a decent middle ground.

Hi Steve... please remember that dairy, all dairy is full of cholesterol. This includes the worst offenders, eggs. Even with you not eating ice cream, you still consume high cholesterol. And do not listen to the doctor saying that heart disease is hereditary and you can't do much about it. You can help lower your numbers but need to eliminate all dairy. The constipation is most likely due to the meds. I know you have heard me talk about a Whole food plant based diet, nothing processed and only whole foods. But it's the best way to eat for your health. And will keep you from being a slave to these meds that doctors love to prescribe (they get kickbacks for how many meds they sell/prescribe). Please read this book "Prevent And Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure". I know it's restrictive but it's just food but foods that can cure diseases. And I will be more than happy to order and send this book to you myself. I just hate to see you taking so many meds when you really could eliminate them.

Thanks cct. The only milk I drink is non-fat. And very little of that. I also haven't had any eggs in the past three months eaither. My diet is 95% whole foods. Everyone is different. It sounds like you are very lucky that you do not have hereditary health issues, but not all of us are as lucky. 🤔

@@MyPronounIsGoddess You do realize that the plaque will still go on your arteries. But everyone chooses to eat what they want, regardless of the outcome. There is no way that consuming full fat cholesterol won't affect your cholesterol. If your numbers are low, then you are obviously on a statin.

See I always thought ice cream and cheese are two things full of saturated fat. Worse actually than meat, to me.

Years ago I had elevated cholesterol. My dr at the time suggested Red Yeast Rice and it did lower it! Apparently it’s the natural form of a statin. And it didn’t have any side effects. May not work for everyone but I thought I’d mention it because it was helpful for me. That’s great they have a test to distinguish dietary from genetic cholesterol results?!
