Really late to the party here, but could not disagree more with everything you are saying about the Mobius Knee Braces. I don't understand why you are bashing the Mobius so much. Wait actually I do, this is clearly an ad for the Don Joy Braces! The Mobius are not designed to be worn post injury, against the skin walking around the house and "watering the trees". They are to be worn to prevent an injury. Would you rather be in the situation you were in or have prevented the injury and have a little sweat run down your leg, come on? Even in your still shots of the Don Joy Brace you have on a brace sox between your skin and the brace. I ride MX and have worn Mobius Knee Braces for over a year. I am in no way affiliated with Mobius. They are very comfortable. I wear knee brace sox under them and do not get hot. The braces do not slide down or move in any way during a full day of riding at the track. I will never ride without them. Mine fit great under my Fox and O'Neal gear. My Son's fit under his A-Star, TLD and Thor gear. Be truthful, the clicking when you are walking is the lock out stop, not some weird issue with the brace. Which one do you have installed? It looks like you have the thick stop installed. There are different sized lock out pieces. It looks like you have them on to low, the rear tendon support should be a little higher on you thigh. The Mobius website explains how to measure your leg before ordering so you order the correct size and have specific instructions on how to put them on. They come with several pads all being a different thickness so you can make sure they fit properly. $600.00+ for the pair is expensive but it is WAY WAY better than a $40,000.00+ surgery, hospital stay, rehab and time off the bike. You would think for $800.00 (per leg) the custom brace you are really really pushing would come with the knee and shin guard and not be an additional $100.00. Where is your consistency? You knock 6D helmets for not including an extra ($24.00) visor when ordering a helmet but are okay with an extra $100.00 per knee brace for pads? $1,800.00 for Knee braces is so far out of line and unrealistic for the average MX / Trail / Desert rider. If the Mobius knee brace is so bad then why do so many top pro riders wear them? Top tier athletes usually do not pay for safety equipment, i.e. the college linebackers you refer to and higher pro level athletes so the cost is irrelevant to them.

I gotta be honest. I own mobius braces. I love them. They fit me great. They are however a tad bit bulky, however they are specifically made for riding. Not walking around or anything. I ride with Mobius braces and never, ever think about them. Coincidentally, I rode with them today and was bragging about them today. I was bragging that I wear them while I'm riding and they're so comfortable that I then wear them around camp, waiting for the next ride. I've never had them move on me, and I've never had them sweat on me, but, admittedly, I also wear them over under-gear. A guy can get the Mobius for under $400 (for the pair). They're excellent. That said, the videos are excellent. Keep them coming.

I would have to disagree with most of this entirely. I've been wearing Mobius X8 braces for about a year (around 65 riding hours) and I think they are incredible. If they are uncomfortable or too hot for you, I'd say you either got the wrong size off the bat and/or didn't fit them correctly with the interchangeable pads they come with. When I bought mine, I had to change some things around to make them fit well and comfortably, but they come with easy to follow directions on how to do it. I also wear stance moto socks under them which help with comfort. If they feel tight or bound up when you sit on the bike and bend your knee, you may have been putting them on wrong on top of them not being fitted right. You are supposed to secure them with your knee bent as if you were sitting on the bike, then snug them slightly after that. I've had various close calls and I feel that these braces saved and protected me every time, and I personally don't even notice that they are there. I have a few friends that have them that love them as well. Its also hard to compare braces that are $600 for a pair to braces that are going to end up being $1800 for a pair. I'm not just trying to be a naysayer, just want another opinion out there for anyone who may be considering getting them.

If you look at 2.43 you can see that the straps of the Don joy brace are much higher. One of the main features of the mobius brace is the x wire system. That is designed to help protect your knee against over extension injuries. With the Donjoy you won't get that benefit because there is nothing stopping the back of your knee coming out of the brace and over extending your knee.

not true, because the DonJoy is an over under design, the Mobius is not. Ask me how I know as I sit here with a completely destroyed knee from wearing Mobius. All other knee braces with out the over under design is basically just a pimped out guard.

I know this is three years old but i wanted to add a comment that others looking for knee braces could read and hopefully assist in their decision making. I currently wear the Mobius knee braces. I wear them every time i ride,l and have had some pretty good crashes with them on. Not to mention I’ve had sticks and branches pierce my pants over the braces. These braces in my opinion offer the most protection from injury you can attain from a knee brace, knee armor perspective. Regarding comfort? Couple they be more comfortable? Perhaps, but potentially at the expense of protection. I will say that once riding I forget all about the braces and don’t even feel them. Do they slide down? In one word NO. Quality? I’ve put close to 100 hours on mine and one of the straps got cut in a crash. It still works as the cut isn’t all the way across the strap but it will need replacing eventually. The plastic and foam besides being beat up is as solid and spongy as the day i bought them. I would highly recommend the Mobius knee braces/guards. Your ACL will thank you. Regarding the Don Joy? As a physician I can certainly support the points made in the video. My personal opinion is that as a brace the Don Joy is the industry gold standard. However, as a guard, intended for dirt bike riding, I can’t recommend it. By putting a knee guard over it that doesn’t fit with the brace itself is a hassle and probably lacks some protection as the guard will invariable shift around. Whatever you do buy, just do it soon and don’t risk an ACL injury or penetrating injury to the leg.

Those Mobius are the best "off the shelf" brace in the business bro (outside of maybe, CTI). They may have a little more bulk due to the patella guard, but go out there and line up behind a gate with a ton of 450's kicking roost/rocks at you and you'll want the knee protection.

I've had it on for 12-14 hours a day during gnarly dual sport rides and barely notice it's there. The Donjoy patella protector is garbage however. I completely tore my ACL/PCL/Meniscus when riding (without a brace... oooof). I have had many custom braces made over the last 6 years (Ossur, Don Joy etc.). I actually tore my ACL 2 separate times while wearing 2 different custom made Ossur CTI braces. I love my Don Joy! I think I have the beefier version of your custom brace ($2300 vs. $800), but it's the only one I trust my knees too. Well worth the cost and pain of going through multiple knee surgeries you could avoid! I have probably crashed hard 20+ times while wearing my Don Joy and know for a fact that my knee would have torn completely again with any other brace. As a bonus, Don Joy paints your brace with heavy-duty paint and they look good for a long time. I definitely agree with your comment about the CTI being inadequate for motocross and even trail riding. I have been able to convince my insurance to pay for my braces because they understand the $2300 cost is going to be less than more surgeries (they usually agree after significant fighting and back-and-forth).

I just got the $2,300 Don Joy Defiance Pro braces... I don't like them at all and they provide nowhere near the kind of support that my Mobius X8 braces provide. The Don Joy's have zero knee protection even with that guard they sell with it. That card doesn't even fit well, doesn't provide much protection at all is too short, pops out of your boot, and if you pull it down it leaves entire top of your knee and your thigh unprotected. They're just really not meant for motocross.

Yeah you need to choose pants accordingly but in these days it's not a problem at all. Also Asterisk has bigger "arms" that wrap around the leg than mebius or that custom brace has. And it's a very good thing as bigger arms mean less chance of brace rotating at impact and not doing it's job. Also you MUST wear some kind of sleeve under your brace, it's day and night difference in comfort level. Asterisk came with one but it can be easily made out of old base layer.

Great vid with an actual real life test for the Donjoy. I’m sure it’s everything you said it is. Personally being a Mobius and EVS bracelet owner. I can tell you that the EVS felt more robust and during squeezing the tank, I couldn’t feel stress on the LCL, I do with the Mobius. If the number two harness is in or below your knee crease, you’re not aligning it correctly. On Mobius, make sure that your knee is at 90° and push it firmly from the #1 strap area. Then tighten the #1 strap up as high as you can comfortably fit it. Now the #2 harness will be above the incorrect position where it was in the knee crease. Fastening the #1 strap as described is the key to stopping migration. I ride 5 to 6 hours days or longer and don’t experience any migration but I don’t notice the heat. Maybe I’m just used to it?

This is one of the first videos I've ever 'disagreed' with you on. You are correct that fit is everything, and with every person being unique, it's inevitable that some products won't work as well for some people. That said, your complaints with the X8 sound completely alien compared to my experiences, and the experiences of many friends of mine. I've never heard anyone complain of them being too hot, and we ride in 95+ degree, humid-as-hell NC. They are "bulky" compared to regular knee guards, but the very easy fix is to buy pants with extra leg room to fit. I've had a half dozen pairs of pants since I got mine, and all fit without issue. Same with my friends. As for the fitment, they are "off the shelf", but they literally come with a dozen different pads to get the fit where they need to be. It did take me several rides to get everything dialed in, but once I did, I completely forget about them for the day. Will they be as good as a custom set that cost 3-5x as much? Certainly not, but mine fit darn good, and I have no issues with articulation at all. So while your issues with them sound very real, and your praises of custom braces sound very plausible, the fact is that the overwhelming majority of riders will be well served by something off the shelf like the Mobius X8s. I think you're the exception here, not the rule.

Yep, good choice - Soft armor has a lot of advantages, especially if they move and aren't sitting correctly when you impact them. This is why I would never wear hard armor for elbows. I wear kneepads too. They are hard, but have good coverage of soft padding that extends well past the edges of the plastic. Additionally, with the shin pads tucked into my boots they never seem to move. Actually, the addition of the shin pad really helps hold them in place, as well as the generosity of the overall coverage of the armor and the well-placed straps. In my opinion, something that has hard armor (especially something well-designed to distribute load) backed with generous amounts of shock-absorbing foam would be the best combo, for most armor.

Good luck man and a speedy recovery. Get a Don Joy. Full ACL and meniscus tear, myself, went a year before my actual surgery. Very frustrating. Before surgery try to build up your hamstrings the best you can, it'll help your rehab process.

The biggest complaint I've had with the braces I've had asterisk cell, and now fox pods. Is they're so damn bulky you don't feel like you can grip the bike as well. If those donjoy's are smaller with better protection ill be getting fit for a set.
@UngulateGuardian7976 жыл бұрын
I love my DonJoy braces. I got them for college football they are way more comfortable than all the others I’ve tried. I use them when riding dirt bike as well. The one thing I’ve noticed is that you will catch the hinge sometimes on your plastics and frame. You get used to it after awhile. After using them consistently you will probably feel bare without them.
@adamaborn30116 жыл бұрын
Tore my ACL less than a month ago riding while wearing my custom CTi braces. I had the #2 wedge (There are 5 levels to adjust extension) in the hinge at the time of the crash. Strain MCL and PCL, minor lateral meniscus tear. I have had a Donjoy brace for my left knee from tearing that ACL in my teens. It fit well, however it does not have a comfortable knee cup. The design hasnt changed much in 20 years for the knee cup to be improved. I like my CTi braces but I recommend the #3 wedge. The #4 wedge is too much. The #2 was clearly not enough to prevent hyperextension. My knees had a natural hyperextension from birth so part of it is case by case. But I would rather go without a helmet than knee braces at this point. That's how bad this sucks

How have you liked the Don Joy? I'm surprised that your rep pushed you towards the A22 when their own website recommends the Defiance over the A22 for motocross. I don't think the A22 was meant for lateral impacts. If you squeeze your brace at the joint you will see how much give there is. Defiance is more rigid at the expense of bulk.

SO TRUE! I had the mobius and it was really tough getting on and off the bike and I’m 6’2”. I could barley swing my leg over the seat because they wouldn’t flex much. Once on the bike they were ok but they felt SO restrictive I couldn’t enjoy myself. I think they are great for MX riding where you’re not on and off the bike a bunch.

Kyle, now that you've been back into the swing of riding again I have no doubt that you are wearing your DonJoy's for every ride. I have a few questions post second time around. 1. Are you using the DonJoy Patella knee cup with the shin guard or have you moved on to some other type of knee guard? 2. Your right leg has undoubtedly gained muscle mass by now. Have you had any reason to have your leg remeasured and a new brace re-fitted? 3. Could you make a follow up video about the brace and how it feels to be using it in everyday riding situations?

Sorry about your injury. I am on month 14 on a ripped apart achilles, and just broke a couple few bones in my other foot. Frustrating stuff. I can probably ride after 10 days of that, but none of my boots fit, foot is too swollen... You can get something called a "Fit Board" to continue to work your muscles, which you will lose if you don't work on them. You can also swim. I tore a calf muscle due to my achilles rupture, about 4-5 months after the original injury due to weakening of muscles. I'm 50 yrs old, so the recovery time of injury is all a sudden more noticeable. All that said? I never quit riding, I was off roading the day after my achilles tear. I couldn't walk, but I could ride...

I've got the Don Joy Defiance and it does a great job. Luckily for me, insurance covered it when the surgeon prescribed it or i probably wouldn't have ended up getting it. But seeing that A22, I wonder if it might be a good option to look into for those times I know the brace will be beneficial, but i won't be needing to worry about contact (i was playing soccer when my knee injury happened and why they suggested the defiance).

I had a pair of mobius braces and had the same issues as you. To me... they were crap. Those braces are completely covered on the front which makes them have 0 air flow, and the x brace on back wouldn’t allow me to bend my knee. I have the pod k4 braces now used with a set of asterisk knee brace pants and they are absolutely amazing. Any brace is better than no brace but you should have tried a different pair if you were not pleased with the mobius! As far as pants from what I have experienced is fly has the best amount of space for braces in the knee area and I’m a 32 also. Sucks to see you injured but good luck with recovery! I’d be absolutely crazy by now without riding!

The more ventilation wholes you add, the greater is the risk to get traumatized. Mobius is made with professional MX in mind. And I don't agree that any brace is better than no brace. If it doesn't fit you properly it can do more harm than good.
@travisbaker7946 жыл бұрын
I wear mobius braces and they are really comfortable. No problems with heat for me. Do you wear anything under your braces? That makes a huge difference. For an off the shelf brace they are really good IMO. If I was to get a custom set of braces for riding then I would definitely go with CTI.

I had the Donjoy after acl replacement. I had fitment issues between my boot and the brace. So it did not work for me because it would pinch the back of my calf. I didn't pay much more than 2k for either of my KTMs. No way I can afford that much for braces. I have the Mobius braces (paid $450 on sale) and they do the job well in my opinion. The heat and bulk are a minute downside, but the protection is great.

A lot of people with complaints on here bought the wrong size. They need to be professionally fitted to you. I am 6’ 3” and wear a small. When I worked at the dealership the mobius rep said he had only ever sold like 3 largest in his career. Most average riders are x small- medium
@sgtyut63053 жыл бұрын
I'm researching the subject and most people recommend trying as many brands as possible. They all fit differently, so if you've got the spare cash order a few and return what you don't keep. The Mobius's in particular don't work well with skinny legs.

EBAY or Craigslist. Purchased DONJOY Armor Forcepoint for $75 bucks (Regular MSRP $500+), they are not custom fit, but unless you have freakish leg proportions or someone else is paying for it you don't really need custom braces. There are a couple of good videos as well as the DonJoy site for determining what size you need. Best protection for your knees if you are wrestling a 250/450 linebacker trying to sideline you for 6 months.
