The way I read Misuzu's character arc is she thought if Tomo and Jun got together, she would lose her best friend (which is what both Tomo and Jun thought about each other at various points). So when she was "helping" Tomo by convincing her to be more girly, she was consciously or unconsciously sabotaging the relationship so she wouldn't lose Tomo. Carol seeing through what Misuzu was doing was her big "hidden depths" moment. In the end, Misuzu's apology wasn't just for making Tomo think she had to change, but also holding her back from Jun for her own selfish reasons. Whether those reasons are platonic or romantic, I guess the ending works eiher way

True some friends want or think a breakup would mean there friend wouldn’t be gone or miss more time imho think she was 60/40% helping out earnestly because she didn’t want Tomo sad or mad and knew Jun wasn’t as bad as she might think it also boils down to Misuzu not thinking about if Jun would care if Tomo was girly or not.

Also Misuzu already has Carol, yeah she will not replace Tomo for sure but still can fix her heart when Tomo is not there.

I read it this way too. She was scared of potentially losing her friend. The whole moral of the entire series is that you don't have to be scared of who you are as a person. Tomo was scared of not being girlie enough Jun was scared of not being worthy enough, Mizuzu was scared of being important enough to Tomo compared to Jun & Carol... err... I'll leave that one a side. (Also TBH, I was shipping Carol & Mizuzu way more than her & Tomo! Anything is better than her ending up with her... cousin? Err........)

I love the ambiguity of Misuzu’s feelings. I thought she had romantic feelings for Tomo, but my friend who watched with me thought Misuzu was aromantic. What was unambiguous was Misuzu’s love for Tomo as a friend, and that’s what mattered the most in the end. If Misuzu does have romantic feelings, then I’m sure someone will write some amazing fanfic to fill the void. Personally I’m super happy with the resolution.

I think the story leaves Misuzu's feeling non explicit but I don't mind it. You can read it as her being gay for Tomo. But in the last few episodes it is hinted that she is not the kind of person that can fall in love with someone, meaning she is aromantic; she loves Tomo more than a friend but is not romantic in nature either. So I think the show is actually leaving it up to the audience to figure it out.

She felt a little something for Jun tho, didn't last long because of Jun being very keen on sports, it was around the backstory of their relationship. Also Misuzu's was being jelous of Jun, but not in a romantic way, in a friend way, she didn't want to lose her bff.

I agree with you, I think the show got way better once Jun's feelings started to be addressed more. I also love that when Jun finally realized his feelings for Tomo in episode 10, the ending song changed to him singing instead of Tomo for that episode. Huh I never read Misuzu as having romantic feelings for Tomo.. I read it as someone, who isn't close to almost anyone but her best friend Tomo being worried she'd lose what they have now that Tomo and Jun have feelings for eachother.. The fear of losing their ( Misuzu and Tomo) relationship due to a new one forming , because she already can't keep up with Tomo and her interests. That day date she had with Jun just solidified that. If those two got together, where would she be? What can she offer? and I did see them adress it, the scene where she admits that Tomo never needed to change anything.. Misuzu is a very private person so I wouldn't expect a whole scene dedicated to her just voicing everything.. Her moment in that episode( and the whole episode) , also with Carol was her coming to terms with her fear of losing one of the most ( and only till recently) people who accept her and that she genuinely loves soo much is what even made her say something that had such a big impact. She likes chaos so she convinced herself that she was just playing a fun game with Tomo and Jun.. When it was obviously way deeper. I saw their dynamic as one where Misuzu has a great admiration and a different type of deep love for Tomo, hence the lying to her about her need for a more feminine appearance ( and also letting Tomo be physically close to her with little reaction) but also getting more and more worried about the effect that selfish and untrue comment had on Tomo .. So much so that she stayed home from school and avoided Tomo. She had to face the fact that she wasn't just playing a little game, she was sabotaging something and confusing one of the people she loves the most because she's unsure what position she'd hold if they got together. She did this without really meaning to. She's not as objective and detached as she thought she was. Our difference in perspective could possibly be sub vs dub. I watched sub and I read it no other way, and I'm also open to all types of romantic relationships so it's not that I didn't want to see it ( I thought the random girls at school being in love with Tomo was really cute).. getting this perspective is really interesting.. Goes to show how differently we can proceive the same thing. ( sorry for probably repeating points)

Ok so here is an interesting fact that may help you understand the author, "Tomo is a girl" started as a lesbian doujinshi called "the foreigner and the incentive tomboy". On this one shot manga beta Mizusu and Beta Tomo are the ones dating, interesting enough Mizusu design used to be a combination of Carol and Her current design while Tomo beta design was a combination of Jun and Her current design, I also want to point out that they skipped a lot of content from the manga since they wanted to end the story in one season and I think there were more hints in the manga however it has been a long time since I read it so I could be wrong. Ether way I do think Mizusu is queer and that she gave up on Tomo to only be her friend similar to Tomoyo from Card Captor Sakura.

Glad you apologized with this video! Because I really enjoyed this anime and I think the ending g was brilliantly made but Suzu is still a mystery but I think they did that on purpose for season 2. I really hope there will be a season 2!❤

You're not crazy, I thought that misuzu had feelings for Tomo that was more than platonic especially since the show was indicating that Misuzu had no interest for anyone except for Tomo, I enjoy the show and was satisfied that they went all the way. Hopefully they could do more but if no, then this was a pretty good show :)

I think it’s not that he doesn’t think he can be with her or he’s weak he definitely does but wants the best version and be the most loving and you feel him wanting to be worthy and being conflicted and it’s certainly peak Anime him making sure both of them are happy and in synch

You can not be perfect but you can improve yourself. I really think this kind of romance is underrated because modern anime is more like the romance is when people accept for who you are but lack of message if you can improve yourself and want to do it, just do it. Jun is being a better person in his perspective so what is wrong about it?

As for Misuzu I think it wasn’t feelings for love but rather she was protecting/helpful or possessive of Tomo someone can be like that without a goal of love aka close friend giving support. As for her statement I see it as she’s been helping Tomo and her feelings for Jun so Misuzu has been thinking about what others think rather then what she wants or feels aka being a helper rather then a doer her stereotype or rather personality trope is closer to a Kuudere cold but opens up after a while as for some scenes I feel that she might think she’s sees her cold personality as a negative sometimes so she wants to act close like carol to see what’s the fuss is more like curiosity striking a cord.

I was surprised at the end too Tomo and Jun make a really cute couple. I also thought misuzu had feelings for Tomo (I mean who wouldn’t she is so lovable)

I feel like the other girl was gay for Tomo, but knew she couldn't reveal her feelings because she knew Tomo didn't think of her in that way. So, even though, it hurt her, she wanted Tomo to be happy with Jun. It was agony for her to love Tomo and push her towards Jun at the same time. That's why she was spiteful of Jun. And Carole, despite seeming like an air head, picked up on all this and tried to comfort her, in her time of loneliness. I also brushed off the anime at first, but it ended up being wholesome.

You wouldnt get so surprised about the H doujinshika writting such a good theme of just being one self if you had seen the kind of stuff he draws. Lots of girls of different types. Tomboyish, girlies, nerdies and so on. Guy just really likes girls.

I liked the series until the last few minutes. Having her dad and love interest fight for her approval, not only felt kinda sexist but also didn't fit her character. She's the type of girl who would beat up her dad AND Jun for even suggesting that they need to fight for her because she is not a prize to be won.

I thought is was obviously platonic and I don't understand why people are so ready to read gay vibes into everything. Granted that it may be different in the manga, but I don't think that is what was presented to us in this adaptation.

I didn't see the anime ending this way and was so glad it switched and baited us! I think it was done a bit purposely for the viewer to enjoy the show without too much pressure on the romance. However, I love the ending with Jun also being in love in Tomo all along. I didn't read Misuzu as having romantic feelings for Tomo, but I did read it as someone who is also an odd-ball having one friend and not wanting to lose them to a boyfriend. Misuzu may not stick out like Tomo, but she also didn't have any other friends until Carol came along. Everyone was afraid of her but Tomo, so they had each other in that sense. The only person we see like her is Tanabe (my ship!) and he likes her even though she's mean and aloof.

Oh I didn't see it as bate. misuzu is 100% queer and in love with tomo, I really loved her arc with tomo. Maybe I just read and watch too much gay stuff. But I liked that it was subtle and that tomo never explicitly finds out but that Carol knows and supports misuzu through it! Misuzu is going to go to uni and find herself a beautiful butch who can benchpress her. OK that last sentence was my headcanon. But the rest I found pretty textual. But again I might just be too gay 🤷‍♂️
