My 1st car as a teen in the late 90s was a ratty rusty flat black 69' Toyota Corona, yep Corona not corolla, and I had a huge Independent trucks sticker with the cross on the rear windshield and never had an issue, but only once at a backyard punk show. I was in my car with 2 other friends and some SHARP skinhead came up an told me to take off the cross sticker or drive off. I got out the car and so did my friends and told the main guy, "I know what you think it stands for, but im a skater, a punk and I'm Mexican, so just back off or go ahead a try to remove it yourself", he just kept calling me a "white power sympathizer" or something like that and walked away lol.

I'm german and a graphic designer. I always loved the logo, and their graphic design in general. It was actually one of the reasons I got into graphics, now I can't even say what my favourite logo is anymore because It is outdated. I had so many shirts, hoodies and cross logo stickers on my boards growing up and it just feels like the identity of the brand has been taken away. All I see is that they sold out for the sake of the current political agenda. I always swore indys were the best trucks I recently got another pair without the logo (obviously) and one of my axles is slipping to the point it locks in my wheel. Logo gone, decrease in quality and I also spend 20 quid more on em than I did back in the day. Think I'll just go for aces in the future....

I was certainly disappointed to see the iron cross logo, is gone now. I actually bought some new indies, and didn't realise the stamp was gone, at first. it's another symbol that was around before those guys, but people are just too lazy to really look at the history of things. I think it's a Maltese cross, right? It's essentially Christian imagery.

@@D00M3R-SK8 Pretty much both. I don't own the SS wheels but I tried them out, and they slid on *smooth* concrete a lot better than the Dragons, so I wouldn't say they're just copies. The ones I own are the biggest (66mm) spitfire wheels (as well as some smallish 99a/101a sets) and the G-Bones Dragons. The Dragons are a bit smoother, but they felt icy to slide, the Spitfires slide just marginally further, but they don't slip out at all in the larger size, unless maybe I were to go extremely fast.

gullwing made good trucks and had such an awesome team. not as great for grinds, but turn/handle well. i had several pairs in the '90s and still have some from back then. they're a bit smaller than i'd want to ride these days at 7.5" but would be good on a freestyle setup, or smaller popsicle

meh things change over time. i love the cross. the new logos are creative and cool. Mixing it up is good. At the end of the day it's their company and they get to choose with their logo is. Plenty of old stock stuff and if that runs out we can DIY our own symbols, etc. the trucks are still good - actually better than ever. Stage IVs are super cool, their team and videos are cool, especially the indy DIY youtube videos where they're making curbs, ditch spots, etc and showing you how they do it. big respect to Indy and Rhino for that. If you look closely Indy sometimes teases the cross. I have a shirt with the new logo but a skull hand is holding a truck and if you look reeeeeally closely the thumb is covering the baseplate cross slightly but its still there. I bet they'll bring it back in a few years. The new diamond shaped logos and lots of their new merch look really good - I think.

As an older skater, I use to ride a ton of brands, when I could afford to. Nevertheless, we've seen our counterculture hijacked over the decades and brought out to the mainstream. I don't want to assume everything is about "wokeism", but branding changes and not everyone knows the history of everything in the world. Otherwise, Hugo Boss wouldn't be in existence now, nor Mercedes, VW or anything coming out of Germany for that matter. Brands change with time. Employees come and go and eventually it's a completely different brand. Independent is not the brand anymore that it was when it pioneered skateboarding. The name remains but everything else has not. Now they decide to change one image because it gives them a bit more bucks. That's how companies work. If it would guarantee more cash they wouldn't bat an eye and start producing scooters or something else. Call it woke call it whatever you want. Truth is it's capitalism and the profit dictates decisions. Not because they feel like making stupid decisions but because they have to. Investors want a return on their profits.
