There MUST be repercussions to the player Rachel Richardson - bc if she had handled it with coaches, police, etc AND NOT IN PUBLIC on social media and it turned out false then she should get a pass (“misheard”) but the decisions to GO PUBLIC first, but facts/investigation be dammed that’s the reason for harsh punishment. She should be expelled and charges for a crime (along with Lesa Pamplin godmother). The way she.they was handled is the issue. A mentally challenged fan was publicly accessed. A coach received death threats. The bell can’t be unrung.

The police officer posted near the Duke bench said he heard no racial comments from the student section. The BYUtv game footage clearly shows the student section behind the servers. That footage is available to stream for anyone anywhere. Countless individuals at this point have poured over that footage and no one has found anything. Added to all that, the godmother of this player (who first pushed the story, and wasn't even in attendance) is a public figure running for office with a history of making racist and racially charged statements. I also think she misheard. After the first time, BYU posted people in the stands and a cop by the bench (as a precaution, not because of actual violence as the media has taken to claim). If it did happen "on every serve" in the later set, it could not have been missed. There were no claims of multiple use until after the game. If she had raised the issue again during the game, they could have stopped the game to clear it up. Also she said she was "heckled racially". Maybe she heard something like the volleyball equivalent of baseball's "hey batter batter." "Hey server server --- miss!" "Server" could sound like a racial slur in a very noisy environment.

What's "heavier"? Accusing her of making it up? Or her making it up? I'd suggest, at the very least, they're both pretty " heavy". The volatility in the country right now is exactly why false accusations are "heavy". No matter how many people make excuses for her doesn't change that.

I'm not sure that making an accusation of a false report is any worse than making a false accusation. Accusing a group of people of racism is pretty serious accusation. After her nitial complaint, BYU sent a cop and several others to go to the area to watch out for incidents - and nothing happened. And she made accusations for the time the cop was standing right there. He heard nothing. The cop talked to the young man banned and said he made no statements like that. More likely, she heard stuff and her bias interpreted as racially motivated. She should have validated it before making the accusation.
@frankdracman40842 жыл бұрын
Why for heaven's sake doesnt she just say the alleged slur instead of hiding it? What might the player consider to be a slur? In the UNC v Duke men's basketball games its an old standard for UNC fans to rattle car keys intimating that Dukeys are spoiled children who all get given cars. Is there anything Rachel might consider "racially oriented" about that? Is there something racist about the Cougar chomp gesture? She had a fairly sub par performance, is it possible she just got rattled and went inside her own head and started to look for excuses or into bad head space?

So is it more likey that a student surrounded by 50 or more people shouted a racial so loudly that the duke girl playing volleyball was able to hear it so clearly that she was willing to make the allegations? Or is more likely that everyone surrounding that student would've spoke out and said that someone in their section was shouting these inappropriate racial slurs? We should all use as much common sense as necessary to decide for ourselves.

What about the Line Judges? If someone used the N word, wouldn't she instinctively have looked at the spectator? Why didn't any of the players hear it? Wouldn't at least 25 to 50 fans have heard it? EVERY SINGLE ONE of them would have to have been racist. If it had happened to me, I would have remembered specifically when it happened in the game. The Line Judge IS RIGHT THERE, but she didn't say a thing. Could it have anything to do with the fact that they were losing, and the crowd was pretty much all white? I can't remember the last sporting event that I attended where if someone from the crowd yelled the N word, most of the crowd would have pointed at the fan, and called attention to it.

This incident has been investigated, people have been interviewed and various video footage has been reviewed with absolutely no evidence found to corroborate the allegation. Who in Duke identified the young man who was ejected from the game? What evidence do they have to support that claim? It would appear that they have none as the video evidence negates that claim. In this video reference is made to BYU "honour code" and questions are raised about the integrity of those present who failed to come forward to report the behaviour. Perhaps they have not come forward because they did not see or hear anything connected to the alleged racial slurs. If the Duke player is found to have lied about this then she should face serious consequences, including civil legal action.

Also, virtually yeveryone these days carries a cell phone with a video (with sound). You cannot tell me that NOONE took a video on their cell phone of this supposed 2 hour verbal assault. I mean a girl was gang raped and there were dozens of people video taping the incident and streaming it on the internet (instead of calling 911). Every time someone has an altercation with the police, it ends up on the internet, and you are trying to convince me that the "lack of evidence" means nothing? With all do respect, the accused cannot prove a "negative". That is why an accused is "innocent" until "proven guilty".

Why do we put so much energy into this! Actually the right to freedom of speech, one can say what they desire, so long as no life threat. We, or someone, may not like it, but that's freedom of speech. I've been called many names I don't like, but you get over it. Besides, black music and rappers use "racial" comments all the time, both that are offensive to blacks and whites. Be careful of censoring speech, or being the snitch that supports censoring speech. You can voice your opinion, then it stays at that. No one has the right to tell another how to act or talk. Not in a free world, at least!

The God mother has years of racial prejudice documented. There is no doubt this situation was initiated and promoted in the players mind by this older hate-filled woman. If I were BUY, I would fire the Athletic Director for his 'knee jerk' reaction. Then I would bring a civil suite against Duke University. The post-incident harm to BYU fully justifies such action. And I fully believe that results of such a law suit would favor BYU.
