In this episode they get it wrong. James Dean's neck was not broken by the steering wheel. He had glass embedded in his face, which leads to only one possible conclusion: James Dean's face came in direct contact with the headlight of Appleseed's car. How do we know this? The Porsche's windshield was made of a composite (not glass), therefore, the only source of glass to the riders in the Porsche was the other car's headlights. That is what broke James' neck and ultimately killed him.

He was obviously driving, the driver seat of the Porsche is totally mangled and the right side is intact, it was the driver who absorved all the impact.
