Was Josh Scott right about this? EHX East River Drive

The Electro-Harmonix East River Drive was designed by Analogman Mike and recommended by JHS Josh Scott, but is it hype or is it that good? We take this modded Tube Screamer through it's paces and really see if the ERD is the gem of the EHX line-up. I own this one and it is fantastic. Love the Soul Food as well. Two of the must have pedals. EHX does a great job!

I recent acquired one of those cheap-as-chips Mosky Golden Horse Klon-clones and while I was pretty "meh" about it's performance as a standalone OD, I was massively impressed with how it sounded pushing an amp (or in my case a MIAB-style preamp)

all EHX overdrive pedals are very similar. They have a certain quality, “some sort of thickness”, if you will… Very different from Boss. Work amazingly with each other.

I was picking an overdrive from what I had. East River Drive stood out and above the pack against a Boss SuperOD and a Mosky klon clone. Love this pedal.

Nice demo throughout man. I just get it back since yesterday (yes for the mistake of having sold my first one). Compared side by side to a 4 times more expensive similar overdrive. They were pretty close to each other but I couldn't leave the musical intruments shop without getting the ERD back with me. Once back home, set it on my pedalboard. Those moods you can get from it are just amazing. Paired to distortions (in clean boost) just enhance the way how they sound like. A must have for those who look for a ts clone. I did exactly the same, I sold my first one. I got this one in to demo from affordaboard and then told him he weren't getting this one back 🤣🤣🤣 I just had to buy it off him. It's a great TS and still quite cheap

@@BudgetPedalChap there and here. EHX are one of the OGs and keep bringing it. I have a (formerly) Russian Green Big Muff that my wife (who is part Finnish and heard stories as a kid from her grandparents of how Russia atttacked Finnland in thr 1930s just as they've done to UA. So she turned it in to a Blue and Gold one using gloss nail polish. So I have the 1st Ukrainian Big Muff and I really love that pedal.

I actually bought a Ibanez Tubescreamer mini to put in front of my Rat and Big Muff pedals to drive them harder into Boutique pedals territory! Sounds great!😳👍✨

@@abhinandanghosh2028 I think the sugar drive is based on the Timmy, so I'd expect it to be a bit more flat in the EQ taking on more of the guitar tonal character. The GT od is another TS type so it'll be similar to this I imagine. I've not tried either though so I can't say for sure. Hope that helps 👍

@@abhinandanghosh2028 a tube screamer and a klon is the pairing that John Mayer uses and it's quite popular. Either that or a blues driver style instead of a klon 👍

No complaints it sounds good ....but I had chance to compare a Boss TS9 Tube Screamer with a Caline $30 USD Emerald Night. It took me seconds to duplicate the sound. The current ts9 is using the what are cheap readily available Chinese parts. I suspect the Caline uses duplicative brands for parts. Keep in mine the 3 biggest brand name German, Japanese and American names move production to China about 10 years ago. Add to that you can switch in the mod that Keeley used to do before his first pedal started to sell. Oddly enough the Electro-Harmonix pedals are assembled in the U.S. but the entire finished circuit board is simple ordered as a 'part' and it is made in China. E-H is not breaking any laws. Made in the U.S. cars do the same thing with all their vehicles. In both cases it is OK to say made in the U.S.
