Was Kira the TRUE Chosen One? [Dark Crystal Theory]

I feel that both of them were the Chosen Ones. Jen was the Shard Bearer, while Kira was the Guide. Neither would have accomplished their individual task without the other. Jen brought the Shard to Kira, but Kira would not have had the courage to enter the castle alone. Only together did their mission succeed. Which I think is fitting, as the UrSkek's were divided in two, the prophecy was about two becoming one; not just the two races, but the last two Gelfling.

The prophecy is vague enough so that it could refer to either, but I agree with others who say that it refers to both of them. Especially considering the running theme of duality throughout the movie, and the show, it would make sense that it would take a male and a female Gelfling to completely heal the Crystal. I feel like the "two made one" line could refer to them, while referring to the healing of the Skeksis and Mystics at the same time, prophecies are great at open interpretations. "When single shines the triple sun, What was sundered and undone Shall be whole, the two made one, By Gelfling hand, or else by none"

Kyra sacrifices herself for the prophecy to take place, then is revived when the prophecy is fulfilled. It's a destiny so much more epic than just placing a crystal in a bigger crystal, and it's certainly fundamental to the prophecy. I think they're definitely both the Chosen Ones.

The prophecy doesn't really call out a "chosen one" to my understanding. It merely states that the Crystal must be healed "By Gelfling hand, or else by none." To me, that places the burden of healing the Crystal on the race of Gelfling as a whole, not by any particular member. As Jen and Kira are the only Gelfling left, both of them are the subject of the prophecy, and neither of them could have done it alone.

It was a collective effort. The UrSkek said at the end of the movie that Kira was a part of Jen. And also vaguely the prophecy said by gelfling hand not a single gelfling hand. But you know prophets don't know everything.

If you noticed in the first movie Scroll Keeper yells, she will destroy us! Cause he keeps records on gelfling prophecies. And I do believe that the sequel tie-in Power of the Dark Crystal makes notion of this by having the lead protagonist being a female gelfling the Fireling. And the male protagonist as the side support through the Power of the Dark Crystal.

It had to be both of them. Neither Jen nor Kira could've prevailed on their own. Jen needed Kira to guide him, but Jen was literally Kira's call to action, one that, from when we meet her, she might've been actively looking for. It had to be both of them, or else, neither of them.

When Kira is dead the urkses say to Jen to hug her in an embrace, 'cause they are one, "she is a part of" him. So I think they are some kind of soulmates, and they are both the chosen ones, because they are inseparable.

Totally agree. They are both prophecized to heal the crystal. They need each other, and could not do it alone.

As Kira said, prophets dont know everything, The prophesy states only a gelfling can heal the crystal. It never said how or how many gelfling would be involved. To me, they are both choosen ones in their own right. Only Jen is the one to place the shard but still without any of them the prophesy would had fail. Jen knew about writting so he found out what was needed to do while Kira knew about the world and guided the whole expedition.

It´s both of them: Jen has more theory-knowledge teached by the UrRus (like playing the right tone on his flute on harmony with the Crystal splinter), Kira has a lot of practical knowledge teached by the podlings ( about animals languages, the crystal bats...). And again and again one of them has to be encouraged to continue the task by the other. And as others say below, I like the idea very much: it´s this two "oposites" have to combine to form a complete being ,like Skeksis and UrRu, and also Jen and Kira.....

Jen is clearly the chosen one. The movie is straight forward. He plays the right pitch on his musical instrument to choose the shard. He also had the confidence of the Mytics behind him. As for Jen being lost and confused: even in real life people get lost and confused, but that isn't the end of their story -- one gets oriented, organized and solves problems. Kira's purpose is similar to Sam in Lord of the Rings, or Dorothy's companions in the Wizard of Oz -- one character inherits the burden of the broad, story arching task, the other (or others) help that main character achieve that task. My criticism is: I think the tasks of Kira should have been split up and carried by different characters -- a poddling, a lone mystic, Augra, some different creatures perhaps. That would have given more flavor to the story. Kira being able to do it all is sort of boring. Have Kira use her wings at the right moment to assist in the final task and her purpose is secure, along with the fact that Jen and Kira can now have offspring -- that's enough. We would all get the importance of those two things. The world is restored and gelfling will re-populate.

Frankly, I think that both are the chosen ones, since it is indeed another parallel to the dual nature of Thra and the Urskeks themselves, especially that plot twist of self-discovery, friendship and the opposite counterpart: Of getting to know the other, of interweaving the differences and finding that union that integrates us to get to know ourselves in this world of oddly wonders...

Hi! I was wondering if you could possibly explore gelfling diets and how they might vary with each clan!. Personally I see a lot of evidence of a vegetarian diet, but what if the Sifan are pescatarian due to their proximity to the sea?

I think Jen was the chosen one. Cause he was the one who healed the Crystal. But KIra was also important. And like she said, "Prophets don't know everything!". So of course the prophets wouldn't know about the friends Jen would meet on his journey to fulfill the quest.

Prophets don't know everything 😁 I guess Thra is the true chosen one, chosen to heal itself, by the help of all her childres. Without the animals in SkekTeks cages, Kira would have been lost. Without the Podlings, the Gelflings would not have found shelter. And Fizzgig also helped them out of some dangerous situations. Remove one of them from the story, and the crystal would never have been healed. But there's one thing I have never understood. Why is Aughra so passive throughout the entire movie? She is a major protagonist in Age of resistance, clearly stated as to be the protector of Thra. But in the Original movie, she only watches the plot unfold and gives a clue or two.

I hate to say it but Jen was just Kira's mule and bodyguard. Kira could do so much. Talk to podlings, talk to animals, she knew her way around and she could fly. Jen was just ignorant to the world but had a loyal heart towards his master. It did take the two of them to complete the mission. And Kira would have never found the shard if Jen didn't do his flute thing. Plus Kira did not know about healing the dark crystal. So there you go.
