Modernising them isn't in counter with F35s' failure in any aspect, it's just a normal thing for any air force to do, modernising old platforms to the level of current standards. @anirbande78932 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Tejas was forced onto to IAF - and that is a good thing. Otherwise, the IAF would've still be "deliberating" while fantasizing about the Rafale or some other import. And HAL would still be "developing" the Tejas for the next hundred years. The only real issue with the Tejas is it's size, which limits internal fuel and future upgrade capacity. Everything else can be identified and rectified if the Tejas is inducted in sufficient numbers.
@Robdua19682 жыл бұрын
Tejas is light aircraft unlike heavy aircraft like SU 30.
@anirbande78932 жыл бұрын
@@Robdua1968 The very concept of "light", "medium" and "heavy" aircraft died in the 80s. Low weight used to mean a more maneuverable aircraft. That philosophy died with the advent of 4+ gen aircrafts. Rafale, Eurofighter, the Raptor etc., which are some of the most maneuverable fighters out there and none of them can be considered "light" by any standard. The Tejas was envisioned as a 'point defence fighter' which can be scrambled against enemy bombers coming in for a bombing run. With the advent of guided bombs, cruise missiles etc., that role is pretty much dead. So, HAL being the lazy ass bitch it is, simply reclassified the Tejas as a multi-role fighter. However thanks to the GE-404 engine's fantastic efficiency, it actually became an almost viable proposal. The big issue? It still doesn't have enough sufficient physical volume for the upgrades it needs to truly fill the role. Hence the MK2. Remember the MK1A was originally supposed to be called the MK2, it was renamed because the IAF found it woefully inadequate to perform the role it was supposed to fullfill. HAL as usually said they'll get back in a couple of decades or so if the felt like it, and the IAF threw a tantrum for more fancy imports. Then government (rightly) stepped in and basically shoved the MK1A down the IAF's throat. Which is fine. The Tejas is a far superior aircraft to the Mig 21 it is supposed to replace, it's just a 20 years too late. Still worth it though especially compared to some of the older gen Russian and legacy aircraft of the IAF.

Concessions do not mean that the aircraft is non-operational. It means that all operational configurations are not met, hence its operational use is restricted. If it was operationally useless or could be expensive in terms of pilots lives, I am sure no CAS would accept having it "rammed down his throat". He would much rather resign. These concessions must be accepted to support our own aviation industry. If not, the cost of imported aircraft will be so prohibitive as to make the IAF non-existent. We will then have to learn to defend ourselves with out an air force. These "rammed ..." stories are circulated by the import lobby. There are plenty of retd defence officers in support of the import lobby.

There was a time when such discussions were privy to only a selected few columnists and IAF Brass. Thanks to the internet and open information about our capabilities and methodologies versus enemies, I hope people can see these hit pieces on policy decisions for what it is... We do not know what is true and what is not. However, even if we consider questioning the capabilities of the LCA Tejas, we must remember that every big thing need to be started with something small and humble. We cannot depend on imports if we want to be a military superpower. War gives the US defence industry a big boost, hence the US never fails to initiate war between 2 countries. They make billions of dollars by exporting defence equipment. We must spend time making small things first and slowly build on it. In the next 50 years, the Tejas will be a formidable single engine fighter, and the AMCA, maybe mark3 or mark 4 etc. will match the top guns in the industry. That is how we develop. Also, Privatization of HAL or having private players do more in the industry will give our defence sector a big boost.

Articles such as the one that is referred to in this video are written by the lobbies whose interests are being massively harmed by projects and platforms like the LCA Tejas. We must always remember what the Tejas programme has achieved. Its biggest achievement is the creation of the ecosystem to develop future fighter aircrafts. Tejas is the baby steps which India has taken towards much larger goals. Projects like the TEDBF or the AMCA would be impossible to imagine if the Tejas project did not exist. That we in India today have the confidence to even dream of an AMCA 5+ generation fighter is solely because of what the LCA program has achieved and has been able to create- the ecosystem particularly. So Tejas is a grand success for India and enemies of India will try to run our indigenous projects down with fake and fabricated news articles such as these. Also what this newspaper and this particular author, whoever he may be, failed to realise is that today there are social media channels like Defence Matrix that will surely burst their propaganda and disseminate the truth. While you may have stated your analyses of posits, the fact remains that the LCA was a 1983-concept with a 1986 PDP & a 1987 cleared project design. I worked with ADA on deputation from the IAF as the most experienced IAF pilot on the Mirage 2000. A test pilot from MiG-29s joined me and two (later one) tech officers and a locally based Jaguar ASTE test pilot formed the team. About 20 of us slogged up to 2100 hrs 6/7 days per week vs the 5/7 reqd, and left a complex deserted by the others on the LCA team under Dr Kota Harinarayan, who I had knew/explained the MiG-21 Bis to over 20 odd days in Jan 1977. We moved at lightning speed and were well ahead of track, be it PERT/CPM/GANTT. I spent 1989 in the UK, came back and visited ADA in 1990. ADE had subsumed it and a new ADA complex was coming up across the runway. Dr APJ Kalam was in charge of the ASTRA project, which was flagging. Nothing concrete seemed to be happening. The century changed, but there was very little to show for 15 years gone by. Out of the 12 smuggled GE 404 engines, one had been cut up, but the Kaveri programme was a disaster. It was discarded. HAL placed an order of $700 million for 99 F404-GE-IN20 engines last year. After first flight in 2001, what happened? PV-1 came in 2003, PV-5 & 6 in 2009. The first squadron, Tejas IOC-II, became operational in 2016. Now this critique. Where have all the flowers gone? kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHqWgompjJhjoJI

You cannot achieve quality in first attempt.. Even if it was little less qualified to future warfare ..it can be improved with time..... Important thing is to build a base first... But in my opinion lca is not bad choice it is great aircraft

Sir , you have politely explained all pointwise counter arguments w.r.t. the article in eurasia which is being circulated well all around. It is a fact that we are still not having a result oriented and longterm approach for procurements and development of main platforms .

News is coming out mrfa is being reduced to 57 from 114 , if true there maybe no indigenous license production , technology transfer, etc for those 57 mrfa units.

I think the Arjunk tank was forced onto the Indian Army. But the Tejas is a good fighter jet. Much better than the mig 21 that it’s supposed to replace. Why would the IAF feel the Tejas forced onto them? Maybe because IAF doesn’t trust companies like HAL with good reason. HAL sucks at meeting deadlines and demands. It made more sense for IAF to work with a private company like L&T for the fighter.
@averagestudent52232 жыл бұрын
3:57 onwards - exactly at 4:09 - Agar IAF ne (Tejas par) esa bharosa dikhaya hota tu mig 21s aj retired hotay - basically confirming that the article that you're trying to refute is correct! If IAF didn't trust Tejas and now has it ... that means it was thrust onto IAF.

He meant if IAF believed Tejas as Pakistan believed in JF 17, IAF took Tejas in service in IOC configuration, whereas PAF took JF 17 in good numbers when it had nothing.

True. Indian aviation designers have to evolve and require industry back up ,be it engines or material or avionics .

Tejas might not be the best, but it certainly has value and serves some purpose. Also atmanirbhar Bharat is an important and strategic goal. Developing critical technologies and competencies is a must. A good product mix will ensure national security. Some imported some indeginious.

Now correct your info: Jf17 thunder block 3 are equipped with an integrated panjnad EW suit even block 2 has it Pakistan also uses pods but it also has an integrated suit kg600/700 spj in block 2 And for jf17 block 3 kg800 may be used 🤣🤣

I read this report too yesterday. It takes a very negative outlook towards current Make in India development. But we must not discourage this effort of Make in India, might not be perfect yet, but it's a step in right direction

Definitely. And it wasn't because Tejas is bad, but rather IAF seems to have no interest in any indigenous Fighter jet. They'd rather keep flying Mig21s and keep losing their pilots rather than buy Tejas. PS : Huge blame also falls on HAL for the pathetic production rate. But IAF definitely gets blame too due to their disinterest in any indigenous platform.

I suspect that a vast majority never read the article. Shame on the people who have commented "shame on the ex-IAF veterans". The real problem lies within the government PSUs that are accountable to nobody. Involve the private sector in defence design and manufacturing, and we will have BOTH, atmanirbharata AND quality. Excerpts from the article provided below: --------------------------- OPED By: Group Captain TP Srivastava (Retd) In the past 35 years (1987-2022) performance of HAL and its ancillaries has been sub-standard. Our indigenous capability has languished at an abysmally low level. Why? HAL must answer that question. ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ is a wonderful slogan provided it gets translated into action. At present we are a few light-years away from achieving that. The most formidable Air Force of the world, the USAF, is supported by the private defense industry viz Lockheed, Boeing unlike HAL, which is a state-controlled autonomous entity with no accountability. The solution does not lie in giving slogans. The solution is to break up HAL into private entities and demand output. Marcelle Dassault of France has less than 20% strength as compared to HAL. Look what they produce! The concept of ‘PERFORM or PERISH’ must become applicable to such government establishments as well, as is happening to bureaucracy by weeding out the non-performing deadwood. HAL is in the same category. Press reports have quoted that the current CAS has ‘accepted’ the LCA Mk II but has not hidden his highly desirable displeasure by further stating that acquisition of LCA Mk II is only an interim measure. What happens between 2022 and 2036 is of greater significance than the development of LCA Mk II. The concern of CAS is genuine and must be viewed with professional maturity by the powers that be. The past performance of HAL does not infuse any degree of confidence about the availability of operational LCA Mk II by 2036. --------------------------- Gp Capt. G Ranjit Mohan (Retd), a former test pilot responds… I applaud the enthusiasm in bringing this “Mirage” of an aircraft to the fore and the attention of all concerned... In reality, HAL works on a cost-plus basis and the cost is transferred to the Defence services, which are a captive market for it. So, HAL always makes a profit and a profit-making PSU is lauded by the mandarins in the ministry. LCA was initially a Technology Demonstrator. The first two flyaway models were TD1 and TD2. based on Flight test experience, the aircraft was supposed to be redesigned to fulfill the ASR requirements. Instead, the IAF and the Indian Navy were forced to accept this, and they were renamed PT1 and PT2 ( Prototype), and development funds were poured in and pre-orders were placed. To be fair to HAL, the shortfalls in the capability of LCA are not attributable to it. The design agency for LCA is ADA and HAL is only manufacturing the product... GTRE, which was the prime design agency for the Kaveri engine has the unique distinction of not having developed a single aero-engine since its inception in the early 1950s and Kaveri will likewise never see the light of day. Nobody wanted LCA Mk I. Who wants MK II?? • Gp Capt. Tej Prakash Srivastava has served in Iraq and is a graduate of both DSSC and AWC. He was Directing Staff at DSSC and Chief Instructor at the College of Air Warfare. He Served at Air HQ, commanded a MiG-21 Sqn, and headed the IAF establishment of Strike Corps during ‘Operation Parakram’.

NOW ALL THOSE HATERS OF TEJAS WHO SAID THAT TEJAS WAS FORCED ON INDIAN AIRFORCE HAVE GONE SILENT LOL because now Indian Airforce has ordered 100 more Tejas MK1A alongside the 83 to be procured soon so total 220 Tejas with around 220 Sukhoi 30s Tejas has been loved so much by IAF that now alongside Sukhois, even Tejas are gonna become the 2nd backbone of Indian Airforce its great that how the game flipped within just 1 year XD now all the haters are gone lol (all those haters were lobbyists and pessimists, pessimism was in me too btw but now I know the reality, Tejas is indeed a success and soon will be bought by Argentina, in short, a major W for Indian armed forces and Indian defence industry)

Once IAF and GOI took decision to induct indigenous Aircraft LCA Tejas as our fighter aircraft to replace MIG 21 , it's progress is fast . Our negligence to neglect our own make fighter aircraft costed us heavily. Now on this platform we are developing advanced versions TEDBF and AMCA , may be step by step but decisively. We started developing missiles in the same way . And today we have better missiles and planning more advanced with long range , may be by 2027 we will be one of top 4 nations having most advanced missile systems , which by no means a great achievement for India.

If Tejas was forced to IAF then it was done too late. It should have been forced to IAF 10 years ago itself. IAF unlike Navy needs arm twisting to buy Indian. If IAF was matured to know this and accept things for a very long term perspective and goal, all our problems and delays today would have been already solved. IAF itself is super slow. Look at mrfa requirements and paper work from iaf itself!

Even if it was "forced" on IAF it is a good move. First, just regular usage of the Tejas will lead to improvements in the future versions; second, competing countries wouldn't want Tejas to be successful for their vested interests.

Well I think there is nothing wrong with forcing our Airforce to acquire Tejas. This was required to break the strong lobby which favor’s to purchase foreign aircraft even though we have a good homegrown fighter jet .. as the saying goes Indians are laatoo ke bhoot jo batoon se nahi mantay 😁 & Modij knows that .. so overall we are happy that Tejas was forced else it would have faced the same fate as that of Marut jets !!
