You know what Faye? I always love your story because I'm going through the same thing right now with the same course and trying to pass my A- level after several failures, I'm 4 years post high school graduation. I took my first exams at 15 towards this course of study and in the past four years, I've failed so many exams which is unbelievable because I'm the smart kid! Plus I'm also trying to document it all through KZbin, you're such an inspiration, remember this anytime the pressure rises and you feel the slightest twinge to quit

faye i cannot even begin to tell you how emotional i am to watch this. you've been my buddy across the pond for years and i relate so much to everything you've gone through. I am just starting my 4th year of med school in NYC and my Step2 score comes out tomorrow, so i'm an absolute nervous wreck. But the minute I saw this video was posted I immediately knew smoeone out there understands the struggle (most of my med school friends are taking time off for research and haven't taken step2 yet so I'm kind of going through it on my own for now) and what a joy it is to see your success. bouncing back after rejection (I was rejected by an obscene number of schools 3 years in a row, i know the pain!) and coming this far is truly a testament to your strength and passion. I am so so so excited to see what happens next for you! I imagine your content will look very different as it's not as easy to film when you're working all the time as it is to prop up a camera during your study marathons, but I know you'll be out there doing big, important and wonderful things. congrats congrats congrats Dr. Bate!! Xoxoxo

Thank you for all your videos over the last few years. I am not even a med school student, but I am about to be the father of one. Watching your posts has given me a better understanding of what he is likely to face over the next few years, and hopefully, this will help me support him if/when certain issues arise. Being a young male, he is not likely to share his problems but I feel better educated in the signs to look out for. Like you, he didn't walk straight into a place at med school, but I am very proud of him. I wish you the best of luck in your next year as a F1 doctor.

I'm so glad you're talking about the financial side of things realistically - I'm applying this year and you've really made me think about my reasons for wanting to do it (in a good way!) I don't think the money would make much of a difference for me cause my other career choice would have been a musician which is also very unstable at the moment but having that moment to just step back and keep looking at the whole picture is really useful Good luck for life as a doctor, it'll be tough but you're tougher!! ❤

Dr. Faye! I am so proud of you for getting through medical school and all the challenges that have been thrown at you along the way. Your transparency regarding failure and how you overcame it has inspired so many people, myself included. You have shown us all that no matter what obstacles we may face in life, we can become anything that we want to be if we put our mind to it. I started watching your channel back in 2020, I was in year 11 and I've now finished my A-Levels! I was never very confident in my academic abilities and was set to get pretty average grades in GCSE''s but seeing your determination to succeed despite any adversities is what made me shift my mindset. I started setting my goals high and I ended up surprising everyone (including myself) with the grades I received. I took that mindset with me to A-Level and (hopefully) have done well in those too. 15 year old me would never believe that she would be able to wrap her head around the content of A-Level biology, but now I kinda love it! I ended up deciding to not pursue medicine (mainly because of the systemic issues you mentioned) but I still come back to watch your videos. I think everyone has something to learn from you, whether that be your grit, work ethic, or your ability to see when you need to take a self-care break. I can't wait to see the next chapter of your journey. Your kindness and strength is going to make you an incredible Doctor. But if you don't love it, that's okay too. We all just want you to choose happiness :)

@Fayebate Do you have any more resources I can look at to find out more about the systemic failures you talk about in this video? I found it really interesting to hear you touch on it and it made me wonder if I am a bit ignorant on the subject. As a social care worker, with low pay for the conditions we work in compared to other similar professions, who is effectively funded by government but can't strike because the funding is outsourced to private companies watching other government funded professions strike has been hard because maybe being ignorant has led me to think "but what about us?" on occasion.

As a Canadian, the problems in the system are Conservative/Tory governments trying to break Universal Healthcare so they can give their buddies lots of profit by pushing towards a privatized Amercanized system. Citizens are fighting against this privatization, and workers are fighting the working conditions/pay, but we are in the same fight.

Congrats Faye! So, I'm confused about medical school in the UK. In Canada, at most schools, one has to complete a bachelors of science in biochemistry and have a few years of clinical experience to apply to medical school. By residency, most people are in their 30s. What was your route to becoming a doctor? Did you complete a BSc, volunteer hours, and clinical or clerical work before beginning medical school? I'm confused as to how doctors in the UK can be so young.
