There was a philosopher from Sicily called Empedocles who won a horse race during the 71st Olympiad (496 BC). He was a Pythagorean who believed in the trans-migration of the soul and was therefore a vegetarian. They made him a giant oxen out of spiced bread to eat during the feast. It was not the last supper... It was a representation of the dionysus feast, a famous theater play in Athens back in the Greek empire.
@vegetaCOSMOnaut20013 ай бұрын
It was the Last Supper. They came out with an excuse after the reaction and justified indignation. They said it was the Dutch 17th century "The Feast of the Gods" which even itself is a nod to the Last Supper. It's one of the ultimate, don't believe your lying eyes. They know exactly what they were doing. The main actress/artist/LGBT activist Barbara Butch as the Jesus role in the production even said it on her Instagram immediately after before quickly deleting to get on the same page and new narrative. Honestly, you have to be foolish to believe their explanation which is just a cowardly lie. If you want to insert and mock a specific religion in art at a major international event, fine, go ahead, own it. They clearly were scared of the controversy and folded up shop quick. They thought they could get away with it and no one would call them out on it. They thought wrong

The feast wasnt a specific play, nor a specific stage setting like you suggest: it was a festival. Dionysus was a god of feasting and excess. The specific table setting in this case was either intetionally the last supper, or my opinion, a funny but idiotic accident. Obviously the painting's seating arrangment at the table was done that way for the viewer's sake, and in this case for the camera's. However to miss this refernece just shows the crass ignorance of planners and generally set the tone for how poorly conceived the games to follow would be.

3:40 Disagree on that one. German banter is a lot more vicious than British banter. We just have fewer people doing it but it tends to be more personal and more hurtful. Although if you mean a culture of banter as in everyone is engaging in it, then sure, us Germans have that to a much lesser extent. Or in other words, we have fewer people engaging in banter but those who do almost never pull punches. 5:05 Those we have a lot of in Germany. Yes, we tend to be honest and somewhat direct, so there'll be less pussyfooting around but a lot of people imo (as in the 3rd of my circle of friends I've said goodbye to in the past couple of years bc Jesus, get a grip guys) just take that as an excuse to have 0 filter and be a negative asshole (let's see if YT deletes this comment, lol) year round. And you're right, those people never do tell you a random positive thing. Honestly, I thought that was a German stereotype of a person. It feels very German anyways.

I feel like if someone in the politics comes up with something to which you reply with "that's a great idea", it's so vague and just ideological nonsense that it sounds good but is impossible to execute. It seems to me like so many things are so complex that you need massive effort to make everything work if you want change one thing succesfully. And in general people just lack the ability to have a holistic view on things and predict all the ways the change could work out and produce different outcomes than desired. I'd compare it to sports: you make a rule and the competitive athletes find all the possible loopholes and ways to abuse it and if not that, shifting to abuse another thing. I heard somewhere that the last supper thing was supposedly about Bacchus the Greek god. One judoka on social media trashed olympic judo as a sport (basically his take was that judo and its rules at the moment suck, not him) and said he was very upset about ridiculing Christianity. That's where I thought these athletes really need a PR person to handle their social media posting as public figures. I found it funny how all the UAE judokas had Georgian names. What was curious to me is how Israel got to attend the Olympics as if nothing, but Russia is now out. Also very little talk about embargos or other actions against Israel. You probably need to have the right friends. Eurovision also had this controversy where they pose as the ambassadors of peace, friendship and coming together and Israel almost won the contest when they had just bombed a ton of civilians. The Lopez in wrestling was crazy, I had no idea before I decided to watch the wrestling matches. How come a single man is so dominant and the only guy who was able to challenge him was also Cuban and his training partner for the longest time, just moving to another country so he could get in the Olympics at least once. Apparently he had also not being doing competitions for a long time, just appeared in the Olympics to collect the medal. But damn, my favourite match was the American who got upset that the video referees didn't watch the part he challenged and got penalised for losing the challenge, already behind like 1-4 in score or so and decided to go all in, just grabbed the guy and did the greatest suplex in this year's Olympics. Americans love sports where you can have a lot of ad breaks. Sponsors get money and they get to go get more stuff to eat. That's why they don't like soccer. But people having trained for 20 years for something and another sport just comes in makes me think of bouldering. Damn those people climb fast or tricky things like nobody's business. It really looked like a real sport where someone is doing something very physically impressive, I'm pretty happy that bouldering is now in the Olympics. At least it was far more interesting than dance with equipment and horse dancing. Even though I was very impressed by how extremely fine motorics people have been able to teach the horses and how accurately the horses were able to do it. And talking about tennis players and their mentality. The US female player crying for like 5 minutes at the referee and supervisor on a call that didn't change anything, she was world rank 2 and lost the period 2-6. Gurph's opinion on Riner's judo game is pretty well shared among people. Some people were puzzled how Riner can have a dominant grip and not use it for minutes at time without getting penalised. Because it's in the rules that if you have a dominant grip and don't do anything with it, you get penalised and it happened to some people in the tournament in question too. The Korean , Kim, was really good, I think he really had a chance to take it home. Riner was so passive and looking for counters, Kim was actively trying to make something happen. But Riner managed to do his own acceptable attacks in between so he didn't get penalised for inactivity either. In the end Riner got his massive harai goshi. I've never seen 130 kg fly so smoothly, legs toward the ceiling. It was worth it. And to be fair I think in the team event they did slighlty favour Riner, but it's ok, France and the man got their gold medal in home event and in the last judo event. One cool thing I saw was this "veteran" (in judo you're called veteran when you compete after senior phase, old people judo in a sense) Italian Odette Giuffrida in her bronze match against Brazilian Larissa Pimenta, she lost but Pimenta was so shocked about the whole thing, crying on the mat that Giuffrida walked to her and consoled and calmed her down. It was so odd to see in judo or in general when you lose a medal that you find the will to do that. And also there was a Japanese wrestler Takatani who lost his gold match against Uzbek Zhamalov, but he couldn't stop grinning and lifted the Uzbek in celebration to the audience and they hugged a lot. I have no idea where that came from, but I've never seen anyone be so happy getting left to silver. Talking about corruptness of the Olympics, just watched the Insider interview on Victor Conte talking about the doping stuff he was running and how corrupt the actualy Olympic system was. It's all just to make money for certain people, like brands who pay. It makes me upset and I can't say I'm very much celebrating the Olympics as the pinnacle of sports events knowing how much it's just another money circle with a different facade. I'm mainly just upset that there's probably tens of running and swimming events where all the difference is just the length of the match, but if you are allowed to grab the legs in judo, it's too difficult to distinguish between judo and wrestling so leg grabs had to be banned (and there's been talk that the referees have been instructed to end the matches with shidos if they're going on for too long which would be part of the reason for inconsistent refereeing on different days). I do like judo without leg grabs but they would bring something different on the table and some of the stupid rules are just remnants of the leg grab ban that make no sense. Wrestling and judo match lengths are already different. And I think the spectators are savvy enough to be able to tell apart wrestling singlet from judogi. I think we can have the end note "jujutsu derived sports are fun" so don't have to specify bjj and judo. This one had a lot of topics worth getting agitated over, thanks for that.
